DESIGNED & MANUFACTURED IN SWITZERLAND
Your musical instrument is a prized possession, so its sound deserves to be authentically
reproduced and amplified with the best possible audio quality. Since its foundation in the
early 1980s, SCHERTLER has embarked on a passionate programme of research that aims
to achieve the highest levels of fidelity in the reproduction of acoustic stringed instruments.
Led by double bass player Stephan Schertler, the company’s research and development
initially focussed on providing a series of high quality alternatives to outdated and imperfect piezoelectric technology. Over the years, Schertler’s original approach to harnessing
acoustic vibrations has led to the development of several international patents, including
the STAT electrostatic bridge pickup technology found in the classic range of sensors for
bowed instruments. Other developments have included Schertler’s unique “air chamber” Stephan Schertler
technology, an integral feature of the Lydia guitar sensor range.
Alongside its comprehensive range of instrument sensors, Schertler has developed a whole
series of high quality, compact acoustic amplification systems. Adaptable to all acoustic
instruments and genres, the amplifiers combine pristine sound quality with a wealth of
features designed to meet exacting performance requirements.
With the need for flexibility in mind, Schertler has also extended its product range to include
wireless systems, high quality preamplifiers and DIs, plus a variety of accessories.
More recently, a unique collaboration between Stephan Schertler and Claudio Pagelli resulted in the birth of SCHERTLER GUITARS and the creation of a smaller sized electro-acoustic
guitar for the stage, equipped with a reference quality pickup system.

INSTRUMENT SENSORS - AN INTRODUCTION
Thousands of musicians worldwide rely on Schertler microphone technology in a variety of
performance situations and genres ranging from classical to rock, jazz and fusion.
The technology behind Stephan Schertler’s first product, the STAT pickup for bowed string
instruments, established his reputation for innovation. Introduced in 1986, the patented
electrostatic, bridge-mounted pickup broke new ground in delivering an impressive sound
that lacked the harshness or distortion associated with piezo pickups, while also proving
highly resistant to feedback.
“Schertler pickups make
it sound real! We rock out
with BASIK and STAT-C.
Real sound – real power! “
APOCALYPTICA
Increasing demand for highly accurate, amplified string sound precision led to the development of Schertler’s DYN series of electrodynamic microphones. The series was also
designed to provide sound engineers with an efficient range of high quality transducers for
use in live, broadcast and studio recording applications. Individual DYN models are available
for orchestral strings and fretted instruments as well as piano, harp and percussion/ethnic
instruments. Each contact microphone is carefully tailored to the frequency range and
tonal characteristics of the instrument and can be easily attached via special non-harmful
adhesive putty.
For guitarists and players of other fretted instruments, Schertler has combined a range of
external contact microphones with specialist build-in solutions like the LYDIA under-saddle

nothing else.... “
CHARLIE HADEN
For more flexible miking requirements, Schertler’s flagship A-DYN transducer provides a high
quality universal solution for guaranteeing the best possible results in professional situations. The BASIK universal contact pickup offers a cost-effective alternative for achieving a
natural acoustic sound on a variety of instruments. Schertler sensors are easy to install, with most models resulting in no modification to the
instrument. Importantly, they also remain unobtrusive to the player.
Complementing this contact microphone range, a series of Schertler preamplifiers enables

MAGNETICO SERIES
A new sound in the magnetic pickup panorama
Schertler introduces the revolutionary MAGNETICO series of fretted instrument pickups. Based on a completely different concept from standard single coil or humbucker pickups, MAGNETICO uniquely combines high-end
Schertler electronics with active multiple coil technology. This results in fast transient behaviour, an incredibly
flat frequency response and a transparent rich sound across the full range of the instrument.
MAGNETICO A-Series
Designed for use with acoustic guitars, the AG6 compact pickup fits neatly inside the guitar’s sound hole. It
is equipped with a volume control and has an external input (with separate volume control) for connecting a
second pickup. Sound from both pickups can be blended using the volume controls to create the perfect result
for each performance or recording.
The AG6 system is designed for maximum flexibility and is available with either an internal Jack cable for fixed
installation on the instrument, or an external Jack cable.
Two new microphones will also be available for use with the AG6; an electrodynamic moving coil contact
microphone and an ear microphone. These various options offer guitarists a choice of six different packages
to suit different requirements.

AN INTRODUCTION
In 2003 Schertler launched the original Classic series of compact amplifiers. The 3-channel
UNICO and its 2-channel sibling DAVID provided musicians with high quality portable solutions for amplifying stringed instruments. Suitable for almost any performance situation, the
amplifiers received positive feedback from users worldwide, firmly establishing Schertler’s
reputation in the field of acoustic amplification. In 2010, the Classic series was upgraded.

2011 saw the release of Schertler’s Deluxe series, the ultimate in compact acoustic amplification systems. Even more powerful, with re-engineered CLASS-A preamps and power
amps as well as a range of new control features, the Deluxe series has reflected Stephan
Schertler’s lifelong dedication to offering musicians the very best in acoustic sound reinforcement. This has been further evidenced in 2012 by the addition of the new LAFARO double
bass amplifier. Dedicated to one of the best-sounding bassists in jazz history, LAFARO represents the culmination of years of research into the challenges of successfully amplifying
the sound of this complex instrument. 2012 has also seen the former SR Technology range
of compact JAM amplifiers re-branded by Schertler, providing customers with an additional
series of cost-effective, all-round sound reinforcement options.
Schertler amplifiers are complemented by a range of loudspeakers including the Classic
SIDE that functions as a stand-alone active system, or as an extension to UNICO. Schertler’s
BASS system provides a subwoofer that can be used to great effect with either DAVID or
UNICO. It also provides the foundation for a compact PA system in conjunction with two
SIDE units. The JAM series offers similar possibilities, with the JAM150 Extension expanding
the compact JAM 150 amplifier to a highly effective 300W system. Schertler’s high quality
preamp series includes the flagship Yellow Blender and its new Yellow Single sibling. These
user-friendly, lightweight yet robust preamps are designed for use with a variety of instruments. Every section from input to output has been specially engineered to ensure maximum
potential from any type of sound source. Schertler’s STAT-PRE and A-PRE preamps continue
to provide musicians with high quality solutions that are tailored for use with STAT-SET
sensors and the A-DYN universal contact microphone.

INTRODUCTION
UNICO
DELUXE
Schertler’s UNICO and DAVID Deluxe amplifiers set new standards in acoustic instrument
amplification with their outstanding clarity, warmth and accuracy. Suitable for use with
practically any microphone or pickup, both models contain a re-engineered CLASS-A preamp
(with no integrated circuits), re-engineered power amps, high-end speakers and a high quality headphone preamp. Intelligent inputs enable the amplifiers to automatically recognise
the impedance of a connected microphone or pickup, so no DI box is required. Each amplifier
channel has a 4-band EQ and there are dedicated filters for warmth, resonance and brilliance
(vocal presence). With robustly constructed plywood housing, the amplifiers are ideal for
withstanding the rigours of live performance and touring. Their intuitive control surfaces are
conveniently placed for easy set-up and any adjustments needed during performances.

LAFARO
Double bass amplification proved the original inspiration for Schertler’s range of high quality pickups.
Now, LAFARO represents another milestone in Stephan Schertler’s quest to provide the international
bass playing community with an amplification system that reproduces the true sound of this complex
instrument. Dedicated to jazz bass legend Scott LaFaro, this new amplifier combines many of the
high quality features found in Schertler’s Deluxe series with some unique functionality to produce an
extraordinarily natural and musical reproduction of the instrument. Any microphone source can be
connected to LAFARO’s 2-channel CLASS-A preamp. The amplifier is equipped with 3 DI outputs, one
for each channel and one for the Master section. A traditional, transformer-driven 280-Watt power amp
moves a specially developed 8” woofer with record-breaking linear extension to provide strong, clear
low frequencies and a natural sounding mid range. A tweeter, powered with 80 Watts, is designed to
smooth out uncompressed harmonics – important for any stringed instrument, not least the double
bass. An effect loop and other high-end features guarantee unparalleled professional versatility and
quality. In addition to its primary application as an acoustic bass amplifier, LAFARO sounds great as
a rehearsal or recording amplifier for electric bass. It can also be successfully used with ‘cello when
strong amplification is needed. LAFARO is not cheap, nor is it lightweight. But there’s no compromise
on sound quality and we believe that it offers the most musical and natural amplification possible,
particularly when used with Schertler STAT-B or DYN-B pickups.

SCHERTLER GUITARS
INTRODUCTION
Schertler guitars are the result of a unique collaboration between Stephan Schertler and
Claudio Pagelli, a Swiss guitar maker of international repute. Schertler and Pagelli’s vision
of creating a smaller sized electro-acoustic guitar for the stage, armed with a reference
quality pickup system, has culminated in the current series of instruments with their elegant
shape, unbeatable playability and world-class stage sound.
Four nylon and steel string models are available, their backs and sides beautifully crafted
from a range of quality woods - Indian Rosewood, Bubinga and Mahogany. The tops are all
made from Swiss Alpine Spruce moon cut wood (said to exhibit outstanding and unique
characteristics when felled during certain lunar phases). Attention to detail is apparent in
every aspect of the instruments’ construction, from their flat profile ebony fingerboards and
solid bridges, to their elegant rosewood and maple bindings, bone carved saddles and nuts,
original Schertler machine heads and timeless ebony knobs.
The natural, high quality sound of each guitar is accurately reproduced by Schertler’s DUAL
on-board system. DUAL combines the LYDIA electrostatic under-saddle pickup with an electrodynamic contact microphone (based on Schertler’s DYN technology) mounted to the top.
Sound from the two sensors can be blended to create a range of options from natural acoustic to edgier tones that will cut through on a loud rock stage. The control circuitry uses
discrete CLASS-A technology with 27 transistors – never before seen in guitar electronics!
A standard 9V battery will provide over 200 hours of playing time.

Magnetic Pickup Driver - ultra velocity O Hz to 1OOkHz. A state-of-the-art device, developed
by Stephan Schertler, that has been specifically designed to produce maximum colour and
dynamic from electric guitars and basses. This built-in retrofit preamp starts to transmit at
zero Hertz (no phase shift at low frequencies) and works up to 1 MHz (limited to 1OO kHz).
The MP Driver delivers a velocity and impulse behaviour that transmits the smallest musical
details with amazing accuracy. And that is exactly what you will hear...
