Rabbi Luna received a M.A. in Hebrew Literature in 2010 and ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City in 2011, where she was the recipient of the Bonnie and Daniel Tisch Fellowship, a prestigious fellowship meant to foster future transformational rabbinical leaders. Rabbi Luna served for five years as solo rabbi at Congregation Bayt Shalom in Greenville, NC. During her time in rabbinical school, Rabbi Luna was greatly enriched by her student pulpit at Temple Beth Israel in Altoona, PA, summer rabbinic residency at Temple Israel in Omaha, NE, and chaplaincy internship at New York University Langone Medical Center. She also engaged in interfaith work through Auburn Theological Seminary’s Center for Multifaith Education. Rabbi Luna is blessed to share her life with her husband Joe Bord and young daughter, Zara Luna An excerpt from an article on www.templebethel.com written by Rabbi Luna: My vision of nourishing one’s true self, both in and out of the synagogue, speaks to my inclusive and broad understanding of Jewish community. Having grown up in an interfaith household with a Catholic Hispanic father, who later converted to Judaism, I understand the power of a welcoming rabbi and congregation in creating a Jewish family and the complexity and diversity of Jewish journeys. I honor the life experience a person brings when entering a synagogue, and I have sought out opportunities to learn about other religions to better understand the background of those coming from other faiths. 2 AUGUST Harriet Stanley Dr Hank Robin Phyllis Carol Burt Barbara Sidney Joan Gerald Libby Wendy Jack Lipschutz Warshaw Feinberg Jacobs Aronson Friedman Goldstein Snyderman Jensen Davis Laboda Rodenbaugh Kray Morse AUGUST Andrew Joseph Arlene Lisa Vicki Paul Erin Beverly Robert Roger Dan Marshall Gina Dalia 1-Aug 3-Aug 6-Aug 7-Aug 8-Aug 8-Aug 8-Aug 8-Aug 11-Aug 15-Aug 15-Aug 15-Aug 17-Aug 17-Aug 1-Aug 2-Aug 16-Aug 18-Aug 20-Aug 21-Aug 23-Aug 23-Aug 25-Aug 25-Aug 28-Aug 30-Aug 30-Aug 30-Aug 31-Aug 7 Raider Faerber Foreman Stein Sweet Summers Olitsky Banks Sher Satin Zevin Lieberman Restivo Vanerstrom 17-Aug 18-Aug 19-Aug 21-Aug 21-Aug 22-Aug 24-Aug 26-Aug 26-Aug 27-Aug 28-Aug 29-Aug 30-Aug 31-Aug Jay & Carolyn Mirowitz Gerald and Sheila Laboda Richard & Ellen Wall Jeffrey & Julie Pakrosnis Arnold & Leslie Vollmer Harold and Kathy Eskin Richard and Sharon Cohn Jack & Jennifer Morse Marshall & Barbara Lieberman Norman & Joan Newman Richard & Judi Davis Dr Hank and Deborah Feinberg Mark & Lisa Stein Stuart & Diana Stein Scott & Valerie Weinberg JULY Pam Merrill Melvyn Judy Seymour Jody Lewis Arnie Harold Jeffrey Linda Harry Harlene Stephen Gary Howard Richard Doris Matthew Candace Allen Marcia Arkin Paletsky Raider Tritel Banks Okonski Schwartz Vollmer Arkin Avon Levine Shapiro Siegel Wener Howington Green Chaet Loigman Gatof Patton Shevach Green JULY Rabbi Luna will be leaving a legacy in North Carolina as she begins the next part of her Journey here at Temple Beth El. You have been a role model for me and I look forward to carrying on the knowledge you have passed on to me for the rest of the years of my life. Thank you for all that you have done. Nicole is a fabulous listener. There is nothing about her that isn't engaging. She's a great teacher. She's just one of those people who you consider yourself very lucky to have met. It was a privilege to be in her company. From the first time I met her in the hallway, there was a connection from the very beginning. I found a real bond with her as a person, as a rabbi , as an educator. She was a complete package. She lives her Judaism. When she reads Torah, you're not only praying, you're learning. Dear Rabbi Luna, I don't know where to begin to thank you. It has been so wonderful studying with you and you have taught me so much. You have been an amazing role model to me through this process. Thank you. (Bar Mitzvah student) Your spirituality, depth, talents and abilities have enriched and blessed my Jewish experience. These past few years under your tutelage have inspired me and awakened me to the possibilities and spirituality of the community. How fortunate for me. More important, how fortunate for the congregation you will guide and enrich. Thank you for welcoming and so enlightening me. RABBI LUNA IS EXCITED……... Rabbi Luna is excited to share her enthusiasm and love of Judaism, learning along with us, and inspiring each of us to do Mitzvot and practice living according to our values, morals, and customs of our Jewish culture. She states,” From the moment I entered the building, I knew that G-d’s divine presence rests within the walls of Temple Beth EL.” 3 The Board of Trustees of Temple Beth El extends our gratitude and appreciation to Rabbi Robert Ourach for his service to Temple Beth El over the past year in his position as interim rabbi. His forty years of experience as a rabbi were beneficial to our synagogue during this year of transition. Along with thanks to Rabbi Ourach, we are grateful to Linda Ourach for the music and Judaic spirit she has introduced to our kids. We wish Rabbi Ourach good health and the best of times with their family in his retirement. Warm regards to you both. Russ Bogen, President The Board of Trustees of Temple Beth El, with warmth and goodwill, wishes Cantor Victor Geigner the best of luck and good fortune in his new Cantorial position in Seattle, Washington. We thank Victor wholeheartedly for his years of service, knowledge of Torah and liturgy, and inspirational music at Temple Beth El. Victor’s lovely and wonderful wife, Shirley has provided an artistic, imaginative, and creative atmosphere for our school and Temple. Our children love them and they and the congregation will miss them, his melodious voice, and his smile. Good luck and safe travels Victor and Shirley. Russ Bogen, Pres. Recently, one of our TBE congregants visited Rabbi Luna’s Temple she was serving prior to her move to Fort Myers and here is what they had to say: I am fairly hard to please, but Rabbi Luna had us from her first “shalom”, she will be a star at TBE. Part Reform, part Conservative, Rabbi’s current synagogue, Bayt Shalom is a small, warm and welcoming congregation. She invoked a special prayer for Israel, and made a point to thank our armed forces during each service. She was well prepared on Saturday too, with a hand-out providing additional and meaningful study points for our Torah study. In memory of Tammi Weisberg From: Howard Weisberg What we didn’t expect was her great facility with Hebrew, and her beautiful singing voice. She is her own, quite capable, cantor up here. She will be transformative at Temple Beth El. ROGER & JEAN HARRIS In memory of Lynne Tolep From: Bruce and Harriet Lipschutz In memory of Lucille Foreman Atkins From: Arlene Foreman I hope we can encourage her to infuse our Mishkan Tefila service with some of the Conservative liturgy that she knows so well. And without exception, every congregant told us how they loved their Rabbi, and how much they will miss her, personally. She will be hard at work there with a conversion and several special events right up to her last Shabbos June 10th. As a special bonus, we also had lunch to meet Joe and Zara. Since Joe has multiple degress from both Oxford and Cambridge, we never run out of things to talk about. Zara is the perfect 2 year-old, right out of casting. She has her mother’s infectious enthusiasm, and will win the hearts of everyone at the Learning Tree.
