I hope the prospectus will be done and printed in time for the June general meeting. So you can all plan your paintings. Best of show will be awarded $400.00 and first place will be awarded $125.00, second will be a named prize for our sponsors, and third is a ribbon. We have decided to do a Green Fund raiser for this show and we need to ask the membership for their help. The plan so far is to ask you all to donate your recyclable cans and bottles to the fund. We have not finalized yet how we will get these to the recycling center, so I will have to let you know how this will happen. (If anyone has a brainstorm on this let me know.) I am letting you all know about it though so that you can start collecting now. It will take at least 30 garbage cans full to give us the minimal money we need. So please start saving, ask your neighbors for theirs if you like. I have asked my kids for theirs because I do not drink soda or beer and I have a water filtration system I use for drinking water. So I only get a can a year if I have lots of company with cans and bottles. So please save your cans and bottles with redemption value. I would like to give a special thanks to all who have volunteered to help put this show together. They all have a lot of organizational skills and energy. So thank you all. June Speaker Carolyn Ivey-Cone is a media producer and consultant with over twenty years of experience in all facets of video production, including live performances, show hosting, independent video journalism, and documentary production. Her video fortes are hand-held location shooting, concept development, crew management, and editing. Her Attention Deficit Disorder video series has been distributed internationally. For two years Carolyn was producer and host of the Lane Community College weekly TV show, where she provided liaison for all departments needing campus television services. She also supervised final semester Media students in program production. She has worked in industry as Marketing and Communications Manager and as a print and video Project Coordinator. She is mother of four, and grandmother of five. Here is her introduction and what she is going to talk about: From Portfolios to Video on the Internet – Presentation in the digital age! An overview of what is needed in planning, and production, for presenting your art portfolio as a “video folio”, or as a short promo piece for show or gallery submission. Video allows for better exposure on the Internet, with less chance of your work being pirated. Single images are easily taken off the web; however, video will not result in single images that can be printed. Although this presentation will not cover many of the options for print marketing, we will cover the importance of a consistent “look & feel” throughout all marketing materials and the importance of this. It is recommended that you bring your portfolio with you to this discussion, so they can be used as talking points for exploring various options as they relate to a video format. I also participated in the Bruin Ranch paintout sponsored by the Placer County Land Trust and that show of plein air paintings will be displayed on the June Auburn Art Walk. And I have three paintings in the Winters Plein Air Festival, that show is up at the Briggs & Co Gallery in Winters. Last, but not least, I finally have my own website, www.janewelles.com! The Nevada County Plein Air Painters were featured at the first annual "Spingtime at the Empire Mine" on May 8. We painted on location in various spots around the grounds at the mine. The rangers are very excited about this and want to make it an annual event because they feel it will draw visitors to the park. The organization was founded in 1965 by a group of dedicated artists who met regularly to paint together. Today, Pioneer Arts provides a friendly and supportive meeting place for artists of all skill levels and for others who are interested in visual arts. Activities are designed to inspire and encourage members and guests in their artistic pursuits as well as to encourage community service in the arts. Meetings Each year Pioneer Arts schedules 10 general meetings each on the second Wednesday of the month. The highlight of the general meeting is the presentation by a guest artist in the form of a demonstration or lecture. These informative sessions are open to the public and are free unless we secure a nationally recognized artist. Then, a small fee will be charged to the public. November through April meetings are held from 1 PM to 3 PM . May through October the meetings are from 7 PM to 9 PM. The meetings are located at the Center for the Arts, 314 West Main Street, Grass Valley. To complete the year two informal gatherings are held in July and December. Exhibits Pioneer Arts sponsors two art sales and exhibitions annually; a Spring Membership Show and in the Fall the Northern Mines Show which is juried and open to all visual artists located in Northern and Central California. Pioneer Arts also sponsors Art in Public Places, a program which provides the opportunity for members to exhibit their work at local businesses. In addition, members maintain a booth at the local Growers Market from May through October. How To Join Those interested in becoming members of Pioneer Arts are invited to attend the next general meeting. Annual dues are $35 and cover July 1st through June 30th.
