Answers for Indonesia
Indonesia has proven to be among the fastest
growing economies in Southeast Asia. From an
agricultural dependent country, Indonesia has
entered the phase towards a manufacturing
nation where technological advancement is
necessary more than ever.
In supporting this immense step, Siemens has
been a reliable partner in providing the necessary
knowledge for the country to stay competitive
among other nations in the world. Today’s
megatrends: Urbanization, Demographic Change,
Climate Change and Globalization, are the major
challenges humanity faces for decades ahead. As
a response to these megatrends, Siemens takes
pride in providing answers to the toughest
questions concerning Industry, Energy and
Healthcare.
In the Industry sector, Siemens provides integrated technology that gives value added to our

requirements to be met cost-effectively.
The atmospheric concentration of CO2 that grows
at an ever-accelerating rate forces the Energy sector to react. Siemens has a unique environmental
portfolio that addresses this problem by uniting
the sustainable use of resources with economic
advantages: with higher efficiency of offshore
wind farms, efficient gas turbine, and the
exploitation of renewable energy sources.
The Healthcare Sector contributes in enabling
early detection of disease by combining the stateof–art laboratory diagnostics (in-vitro) and
imaging technologies (in-vivo) as a response to
the increasing life expectancy. As importantly, the
costly access to healthcare made it indispensable
to create software solutions that streamline
hospital processes to optimize workflow and
administrative tasks.
The presence of big businesses supporting
infrastructure has an immense stake in driving
the quest towards this island-nations’ progress.
Siemens, as one of them, believes that such
progress requires a future-oriented vision.
However, it is not enough to only strive for a
forward-looking philosophy. The question is also
how to create sustainable values to what we bring
to the society. Siemens is committed to remain
an accountable and reliable partner in providing
innovative technologies for sustainable development solutions to the country.

Lightspeed Efficiency
Siemens’ suite of automation and control systems
increased efficiency and working experience in
PT. Phillips manufacturing facility
A healthy pulse of a manufacturing plant, especially
for one as extensive as PT. Phillips Indonesia relies
on its control systems; which can either halt or
enhance the efficiency of its operations. For the
plant’s Main Line, Coating and Washing Machines,
Siemens received the order to do the full works from
supply up to commissioning and user training for
the entire belt of its PLC Controller up to its Motor
Control Centre.
More accurate diagnostics can now be done
from a single source with a user friendly process
automation system, control desks as well as operator
control and visualization equipment. Also fitted with
standard server components, the entire system
network will inevitably increase the plant’s
availability.
Intelligent automation solution is geared to
create long-term competitive strength through lifecycle services that seek to not only to optimize components but to genuinely improve the quality of the
product, process and production. In addition to the
customer training prior to commissioning, Siemens
also provides full support during acceptance tests as
a value added service to the customer.
Already to date, the plant has tremendously
increased its production capacity to 1,500 lamps
per hour. Yet more importantly the return of
investments goes way longer than just product
output, but a workforce that works in a better and
more efficient environment, with enhanced skills
and technology application.
Industry
Unearthing Trust
Encouraging Signal
For one of the world’s largest pit mining
operations, a trusted partner is as crucial
as coal itself.
Siemens receives green light in the
government’s future plans for greater
mobility.
The mining industry demands the breadth of
capability to face up to volatile commodity
prices, depleted mineral reserves, stringent
environmental regulations with rising
operating costs – while maintaining highest
quality standards. For the producer of high
coal thermal from the world’s largest pit
mining operations – PT. Kaltim Prima Coal
(KPC) in Sanggata, East Kalimantan, these
demands are a typical day at work.
All over the world, safe and environmentally
friendly railways are providing convenient
mobility for its community and in Jakarta with
a population of 18.5 million, the need is even
greater. In the interlockings and train control
systems lies the key to efficient operation –
powerful and high-availability operations control systems help make the rail services even
more attractive, safe and cost-effective. This is
where the county has found a trusted partner
in Siemens to equip all main rail stations in
Java with relay interlocking and electrical
components.
Partnering Siemens Automation and Control
for previous projects, this time around KPC
upgraded its humongous plant operations
with the installation of Siemens SIMATIC S7
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
Optimally designed for control tasks,
ruggedness and long-term availability, the
new control system provides a significant
improvement in rapidity as well a reliable
network of communication. It also offers
adjustable throughput by production
requirement which leads to more efficient
operational cost. More importantly, the
newly installed solution is also able to reduce
material stress due to minimum Start Stop
operations hence reduced maintenance cost.
Deploying accurate on-site retrofitting and
commissioning made Siemens an obvious
partner of choice for KPC. And behind this,
a uniquely scalable architecture, high-performance engineering tools with comprehensive
additional functions made the SIMATIC PCS7 a
future proof solution preferred in maintaining
KPC’S reputation as a reliable coal supplier in
the market today, and more possibly tomorrow.
In the eastern and southern corridors of
Jakarta’ railways, Siemens’ signaling system is
installed, with more than 1000 function units
including signals, point machines and track
circuits – increasing service availability for
commuter and main fleets.
In West Java, Siemens works closely with the
country’s Ministry of Transportation to provide
solutions for the Ciater substation on a turnkey
project, covering project management to
building of the substation including its
equipments 3500kva/1500vdc. Today, the
system has become a benchmark reference
for the country’s railway operators, in its
preparation for future remote control from
the main control building with Siemens’ SCADA
system.
All Under Control
New Green Leaves Threshing Plant opens with
Siemens Automation and Control
As the tobacco industry searches for ways to
optimize operations, manufacturers are relying on
flexible process control to help them generate profit
even in challenging market environment. Since long
ago, Siemens has been applying customers’ knowledge and experience at increasingly earlier stages
in the process. The result is a product portfolio
which is both scalable and compatible, and
precisely tailored to the needs of today’s markets –
and in this instance to PT. Sadhana’s new Green
Leaves Threshing Plant.
Situated in Purwosari, East Java, the new plant
had one goal in mind, to turn the operations’
complexity into simplicity. The new GLT Plant was
equipped with an entire spectrum of Siemens
Control System from Electrical Panels, Cabling and
Lighting System to Siemens’ Intelligent Building and
Automation System including Motors, Weighfeeder,
PLC and Drives. As a result, the plant is now running
as a one stop processor, from raw material up to
packaging for delivery with efficient and high
availability of control. The new automation systems
allow a simpler and easier operation and monitoring,
as well as easy maintenance for Sadhana. This is
supported with after sales service by Siemens which
is available within an arm’s reach.

Linking Needs
Partnering Indonesia’s homegrown companies,
Siemens delivers world class turnkey solutions for
high voltage power supply substations
In the mid-1990s, the urgent need to reinforce the
500 kV electrical backbone on Java, Indonesia‘s most
densely populated island, was recognized. With the
building of new power plants such as the PT. Jawa
Power’s Paiton II Plant in East Java, and the surging
demand at the main bulk point on the western
part of the island, especially for big cities such as
Bandung and Jakarta, the extension of the existing
east-west power connection to the South part of
Java and Sumatera Interconnection System became
indispensable.
PT. Siemens Indonesia backed by the team from
Siemens AG, fulfils the impending need to ensure
continuous and reliable power supplies for Java. The
Tasikmalaya project took off in 2002 with Siemens
entering a consortium with PT. Ritra Safitri and
PT. Ciacontrac, with an initial scope involving the
turnkey construction of the Tasikmalaya outdoor
substation for the 500kV and 150 kV. It consisted
of the supply, installation and commissioning of 4
diameters of the 500 kV system in one-and-a-half
circuit breaker arrangement with 9 circuit-breakers
in the initial version (12 in the final version), 6
duplicate bus bar bays for 150 kV, six single-phase
500 kV shunt reactors and secondary systems.
Connecting to the grid, it is linked to the 500kV
overhead line of the Java South-Link.
In June 2009, national power producer, PT. PLN
(Persero) entrusted Siemens with the 275 kV AIS
Simangkuk Project which is directly connected to
Asahan I Hydro Power Plant. The full works of
supply, civil work and commissioning of the products
was one of the major contributors to the 10,000 MW
program at Sumatera grid.
Energy
A New Cycle
Gas conversion plant supports Government’s
program
The impending demand for electricity has
driven Indonesia to launch an ambitious plan
called the crash program – to build coal-fired
plants with total production capacity of 10,000
megawatt by 2010-2011.
With the dwindling of oil commodity with its
unpredictable market prices, Muara Tawar
Power Plant in Bekasi, West Java was one of
the first to answer the Government’s call by
fully converting its fuel oil mode into fuel gas.
Entering a consortium with Indonesia’s power
producer, PT. PLN (Persero), Siemens was
engaged to ensure the conversion project
would be a successful one.
With a tight schedule at hand, all 6 power units
shall be running with fuel gas, fully equipped
with fuel gas skid and pipeline up to the
combustion chambers, each with power
generation capacity of 100 and 150 MW. In
2 months time since its launch in December
2008, 3 units were completed to run on a fuel
gas mode up to base load in diffusion mode.
By February, all 6 power units were humming
in the newly Muara Tawar Gas Turbine Power
Plant, breathing a new life fuelled by gas.
Proper Power
Siemens future-oriented low and medium
voltage systems keep customers ahead of
competitors, and of time
The demand for reliability in switchgear
systems is high for industries, as much as
those of energy supply corporations. For
steelmaker, PT. Bluescope Indonesia, its
expansion plan through project Badak, the
second metal coating line in Cilegon, Banten;
includes a technological platform that
delivers advantages in the entire plant’s power
distribution. Siemens’ comprehensive concept
of Total Integrated Power, with modularity and
sheer intelligence was exactly what the
plant needed. From a single source,
Siemens delivered complete solutions of its
comprehensive portfolio in Low Voltage and
Medium Voltage Distribution system.
Specially designed for the operations of
steel production facility, the Siemens Oil
distribution Transformer, with outstanding
thermal characteristics was made part of the
package. For a product that guarantees a
worry-free, satisfied customer, Siemens’
Simoprime, the market’s well known Air
Insulated Switchboard comes complete
with a maintenance -free, fully withdrawable
vacuum circuit breaker technology and
fool-proof interlocking, to ensure that all
operations are carried out safely behind locked
doors.
In line and at par with the IEC standards,
Siemens handed over the project to Bluescope,
fit for the future, from the entire project
management to commissioning, and even
topped it off with industry proofed customer
training modules, to keep the customer abreast
with the most current and high standards of
operational efficiency and safety.

“quality means costly” with its latest imaging
investment.
Siemens Somatom Definition AS+, the first 128slices CT-scanner in Indonesia was brought in to
position the hospital to a new level of superior
imaging quality to its patients, at a lower cost.
In the past, cardiac patients with certain symptoms
were diagnosed by using the Angio unit which was
more expensive, and required longer procedure and
acquisition time.
With the latest technologies, Somatom Definition
AS+ can uniquely transforms itself into a stroke of
unit, a non-invasive diagnostic cathlab, a therapy
management tool for cancer patients or
interventional suite – all according to the need of
an individual patient. The system’s high adaptability
and flexibility has proven that premium quality
products that deliver optimized workflow can be
achieved with costs at bay.
Healthcare
Restoring Care
Siemens Verio stands by the Government’s
commitment to improve access to quality
healthcare in the city of Aceh
From the time of a massive earthquake to the
devastating Tsunami several years later, the
Dr. Zainoel Abidin Hospital has gone through an
evolution of its own in Banda Aceh. Today,
restored and renovated, the hospital stands as
the Government’s commitment to restore the health
and well being of the tragedy-stricken community.
One of the landmarks of the improvisation
was Siemens’ supply of the Magnetom Verio, a
patient- friendly MRI system combining 3 Tesla ultra
high field technology. With a wide open bore of up
to 70cm, it greatly alleviates many of the difficult
conditions faced by patients such as claustrophobia
and obesity, With Total Imaging Matrix (Tim)
technology, it evaluates the most complex
pathologies for easy treatment, while clinically
one of the strongest magnet field strength, the
system can be used for many applications, including
neurology and functional neuro evaluation,
orthopaedic and cartilage assessment, breast,
vascular and cardiac imaging.
Magnetom Verio is Indonesia’s first compact ultra
high field (3 Tesla) MRI system from Siemens with
wide- open bore for a new class of patient

pledged our commitment to. Perhaps if we were asked why; we will
simply answer, we’re keeping this heritage intact for the future.
After the Collapse
The surge of Tsunami in Aceh and North Sumatra.
The rattling earthquake in Nias Island and Jogjakarta. Thousands of miles away from one another, they
shared the devastation of collapsing lives, brutally
testing the hope of those survived.
For immediate and urgent relief, a total donation
of IDR 10 billion was extended to the IndonesianGerman Disaster Relief Committee (INDOGERMdirect), SCTV, TransTV, as well as 6 hospitals in
Jogjakarta, for 2 consecutive years. A new shady
roof was then erected for the little ones whom
have lost their parents. The Tsunami Children
Centre opened doors for volunteers including our
own employees to cradle the fragile spirits back to
life. Strengthening our commitment in community
rebuilding, we partake in various community
projects all around affected areas, from donation
of Siemens prime care medical equipments to
hospitals, to rehabilitation works for schools and
community centers.
Upping Skilled Workforce
With fierce competition from the great many of
population, deserving youths of Indonesia are
given the opportunity to be the cream of the crops
of engineering expertise. Siemens has shown an
unrelenting commitment to this cause, by the

Perfect Harmony
Indonesia‘s music and musicians are no stranger to
the world. Its creation and appreciation are rich not
just among the experts, but trickling down to all
layers of community. Siemens’ full support to the
Chamber Music Series, takes the community’s
passion for music to an octave higher.
The Chamber is renowned for presentations of
outstanding musical ensemble both for local and
international flavor. Yet behind the curtains, the
tone was set deeper down to the grassroots. Melody
was echoed to the youth through summer music
camps and workshops of various kinds of musical
instruments. And master-classes are being held for
those who want to polish their skills.
Through these activities, enduring friendships are
built among musicians, helping fresh talents to
bloom, while knowledge from the chamber’s
