3M Fire Protection Products Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ Product Data Sheet Performance HighReady-to-use Fire Protection Solution 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ is a high-performance, ready-to-use, gun-grade, latex-based, intumescent sealant that dries to form a monolithic firestop seal that also acts as a barrier to airborne sound transmission. 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ helps control the spread of fire, smoke and noxious gasses before, during and after exposure to a fire when installed in accordance with a tested service penetration assembly system. 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ firestops blank openings and penetrations passing through fire-rated floor, floor/ceiling or wall assemblies and other fire-rated interior building construction. The unique intumescent property of this material allows 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ to expand and help maintain a firestop penetration seal as single or multiple service penetrants are exposed to fire. 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ exhibits excellent adhesion to a full range of construction substrates and penetrants. No mixing is required. Applications High-performance 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ is ideal for sealing single or multiple surface penetrations in fire-rated construction. 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ is typically used in mechanical, electrical and plumbing applications to firestop openings created by the following penetrations in fire-rated floors, floor/ceilings or walls: metallic pipe, plastic pipe (excluding CPVC), conduit, power and communication cable, cable trays, busways, combos, 1 www.3m.eu/fire insulated pipe and HVAC duct penetrations. Features European Technical Approval - ETA - 09/0326 tested in accordance with ETAG No 026: Part 2 - Penetration Seal, Edition 2008-0101 • Meets the BS EN 1366-3: 2004 Resistance to fire • Fire Resistance tested according with BS EN 1366-3:2004 • Fire Resistance Tests for Service Installations - Part 3: Penetration Seals • Fire Classification in accordance with EN 13501-2:2003 • Intumescent (strong expansion) • Endothermic (releases chemically bound water) • Re-enterable / repairable • Helps minimize sound transfer • Applied with conventional caulking equipment and putty knife • Thixotropic & Sag-resistant • Excellent adhesion • Halogen-free • Paintable • Water clean up • 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ is also used to firestop blank openings. It can be combined with the other 3M™ products like the Fire Barrier CS 195+ Composite Sheet, FS 195+ Wrap/ Strip, Moldable Putty+ and Plastic Pipe Devices as an additional smoke seal – please refer to the appropriate European Technical Approval (ETA) and/or 3M™ Technical Data Sheet. 3M Fire Protection 2 Specifications & Performance 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ shall be a one component, ready-to-use, gun-grade, latex-based, intumescent firestop sealant capable of expanding a minimum of 3 times its dried volume when exposed to temperatures above 538°C. The material shall be thixotropic and shall be applicable to overhead, vertical and horizontal firestops. The sealant shall be issued by independent test agencies member of the European Organisation for Technical Approvals (EOTA) and authorised and notified according with Article 10 of the Council Construction Products Directive. 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ shall be tested to and pass the criteria of ETAG N° 26 Guideline for European Technical Approval of Fire Stopping and Fire Sealing Products - Part 2 Penetration Seals: Edition 2008 - 01 – 01. 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ shall be issued European Technical Approval (ETA) with appropriated Product Data Sheet, MSDS and 3M™ Technical Data Sheet. Fire resistance Fire resistance is a combination of Integrity (E) and Insulation (I) The fire resistance is dependent on the wall or floor, the design of the through-penetration, the pipe/ cable going through it and the manner in which the fire barrier product was applied. The table on the right shows, for example, that a metal pipe positioned on the wall has a lower Insulation in consequence than centered installation of the same pipe. Tests on the basis of EN 1366-3 produced the following results: 3 Through Penetration pipe/cable Double-layer gypsum wall (150 mm minimum) Concrete or masonry wall (150 mm minimum) Integrity (E) Insulation (I) Integrity (E) Insulation (I) Blank Opening - - 240 min 240 min Telecom cable (single or several) 120 min 60 min 240 min 60 min Electric cable (single or several) 120 min 120 min 240 min 90 min Non-insulated copper pipe (positioned on wall) 120 min 30 min 240 min 60 min Non-insulated steel pipe (centrally positioned) 120 min 120 min. 240 min 120 min Non-insulated steel pipe (positioned on the wall) 120 min 15 min 120 min 20 min This is only a partial list of fire resistance that utilizes 3M™ Fire Barrier CP 25WB+. Preparatory Work The surface of the opening and any penetrating items should be cleaned to allow for the proper adhesion of the 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+. Ensure that the surface of the substrates is not wet and are frost free. Sealant can be installed with a standard caulking gun, pneumatic pumping equipment or it can be easily applied with a putty knife or trowel. Installation Details Install the applicable depth of backing material (i.e. mineral wool) with a minimum density of 140 kg/m³, if required, as detailed within the applicable ETA or with 3M™ Technical Data Sheet. Cut the end of the 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ cartridge dispensing tip to achieve the desired bead width when applying. Install the applicable depth of 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ into the opening flush with the surface of the substrate, or as detailed within the applicable ETA or with 3M™ Technical Data Sheet, at the depth for the assembly and rating that is required. Tool within 5 minutes. Clean all tools immediately after use with water. Limitations Do not apply 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ when surrounding temperature is less than 0°C and in conditions where seals may be exposed to rain or water spray within 18 hours of application. Do not apply 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ to building materials that bleed oil, plasticizers or solvent (e.g. impregnated wood, oil-based sealants, or green or partially vulcanized rubber). Do not apply 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ to wet or frost-coated surfaces or to areas that are continuously damp or immersed in water. NOTICE: This product is not acceptable for use with chlorinated polyvinylchloride (CPVC) pipes. Maintenance No maintenance should be required when installed in accordance with the applicable European Technical Approval and the 3M™ Technical Data. Once installed, if any section of the 3M™ Fire Barrier Sealant CP 25WB+ is damaged, the following procedure will apply:* • Remove and reinstall the damaged section in accordance with the applicable ETA or with 3M™ Technical Data Sheet, with a minimum 12.7 mm overlap onto the adjacent material.
