Montague branding journey
In late 2010 Montague began
discussions around our brand
and company message.
Various employees from all
Montague divisions met with
branding experts Blueboat in
September 2010 to discuss
our company image and brand
perception. Employees discussed
what it meant to work for
Montague, how we could improve
our image and whether or not
our logos were still relevant.
One of the big discussion points
was the separation of the two
divisions and how we could
benefit as a whole by becoming
‘Montague’.
Although Fresh and Cold Storage
compete in different industries,
we realise they both play a very
important role in the Australian
Fresh Food supply chain. It was
decided however that both
entities needed to have their own
identity whilst remaining part of
the bigger picture.
Blueboat’s challenge was to
create separate but similar
identities for Fresh and Cold
Storage, as well as create a Group
or ‘Parent’ Brand to tie it all
together. Blueboat also consulted
various internal and external
stakeholders including growers,
suppliers, customers and
family members to get a better
understanding of Montague.
The Montague Brand Attributes
were born from Blueboat’s
discussions with stakeholders and
the committee’s feedback. These
attributes underpin everything
we do at Montague. One of
the key points to arise from all
discussions was that people knew
us simply as ‘Montague’. The
word Montague spoke volumes
to people - it is unique, it’s
reliable, it’s practical, it’s family
and its trusted.
In October 2011 after much
discussion, trial and error, the
Executive and Board were
presented with the new brand
concepts and the feedback was
very positive. The new logos
(pictured below), tag lines and
our colour scheme represent
who we are and what we value
as a company.

Getting to know...
me all the time, but the most
embarrassing would have to be
coming home from a girls night
out and staying at my friends
place. I went into the wrong spare
room and accidently hopped into
bed with my friends Dad! As you
can imagine I raced out of there
as fast as I could when he turned
the light on. I haven’t lived it
down, it’s so embarrassing!!!
Name and Position
Jodie Demaj – Reception/
Administration Montague Cold
Storage
If you could give your 18 year
old self some advice, what
would it be? Save almost all of
your money!
What attracted you to your
current position? I was attracted
to this position because of my
experience in Reception and
Administration and also the
location of the business.
If you weren’t doing this job
what would you be doing?
Spray tanning, I do this after
hours.
What is the most enjoyable part
of your job? I enjoy organising
travel and events and assisting
our customers and staff.
What is your dream job?
I love music, so it would have
to be a DJ or organising music
events/concerts, something in
the music industry anyway.
Dead or alive, who would you
most like to meet and why?
Channing Tatum – I think most of
the ladies would know why!
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Kind, helpful, quiet
Describe your most
embarrassing moment (PG rated
please) Silly things happen to
Fruit & Family
part of your job? Working with
a great group of people to
accomplish our daily challenges
here at Tullamarine.
What is your dream job?
Producing media advertising
slogans for major global
corporations…
Dead or alive, who would you
most like to meet and why?
Whoever is responsible for
building the Ancient Pyramids…
Remarkable piece of engineering
before its time.. So I can ask for
some advice on how we can
complete the “Southern Star
Wheel” at Melbourne Docklands
as it seems nobody has any idea.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Approachable, honest & funny.
Describe your most
embarrassing moment Having
to drop my strides down in front
of a room full of doctors is never
pleasant.
Name and Position
Tony Bitonti, Site Manager Tullamarine and 2011 Core Award
Winner
What attracted you to your
current position?
Knowing it was a challenging role
and a great opportunity for my
personal development.
What is the most enjoyable
If you could give your 18 year
old self some advice, what
would it be? No: 1 ~ Live life !!! ….
you’ll never know what tomorrow
will bring. No : 2 ~ Buy shares in
Microsoft / Apple !!!
If you weren’t doing this job
what would you be doing? Not
sure….. I have been involved in
“Warehousing and logistics”
for almost half my lifetime.
However… If I had bought shares
in Microsoft and Apple, I would
probably be relaxing soaking up
the sunshine in the Maldives…

Asia Fruit Logistica
Montague, represented by Ray
Montague, Scott Montague,
Michael Silm & Jocelyn Campbell,
once again attended and
exhibited at the annual Asia Fruit
Logistica which was held from
September 5th - 7th in Hong
Kong.
The purpose for our trip and
attending Asia Fruit Logistica
was to meet with existing
customers, update them on
our latest developments,
especially the new exclusive plum
varieties and expanded export
opportunities like Pink Lady into
Thailand.
We used this opportunity to
display and sample the new,
super sweet, next generation
plum varieties to assess which
varieties have the most appeal
and therefore market potential.
These Plum varieties have been
bred by Bradford’s in California
and are exclusive to Montague.
They will be exclusively grown
in Australia to supply our export
and domestic customers. The
plums and are of low acid, very
firm texture and are being bred
specifically for super high sugars.
These plums have proven to be
extremely successful within the
export and domestic market
and are just another example of
how Montague are Australia’s
stonefruit leaders.
Throughout the three days our
Export Development Manager,
Michael Silm, engaged in in-depth
one on one meetings with key
customers to assess and discuss
the size of the market so we can
better plan our plantings to meet
expected demand.
Through these meetings we gain
a better understanding and are
able to receive indications of
what these customers
envisage selling.
We also take this time to
meet with old friends from
the international supplier/
grower network and get
recommendations from them
on potential customers in the
markets we want to develop.
Along with this we also make
contact with trade enquiries
and build future business
opportunities.
The trip was once again
successful. We achieved our
goals and purpose and look
forward to attending in 2013
and further developing our plum
brand and export market.

Target Zero Update
As our commitment to you,
the OHS team will be providing
regular updates of how we have
been progressing in relation to
our Target Zero program.
We finished the 2011 - 2012 year
off with only 8 Lost Time Injuries
for the financial year. But I know
we can improve even more this
year!
Firstly thank you to all who
attended our Target Zero relaunch project over the last 3
months. It was great to meet
with you all and discuss safety
together.
We have had an increase in sites
reporting Near Misses recently
which is terrific. The more we
talk about issues, the more we
know and the more we can work
together on fixing things!
Since 2010, we have significantly
reduced our Lost Time Injuries by
a staggering 58.95%!
Please remember our Target Zero
campaign: Zero Incidents = Zero
Injuries! Let’s continue to work
together and ensure that we are
working safely and going home
to our loved ones at the end of
our working day.
Safe Operating Procedures
Do you know what a SOP is?
An SOP is a Safe Operating
Procedure. This is a detailed
written instruction on how to
perform a specific job / task. It
outlines the potential hazards
and associated control measures
to be applied.
Each task performed must have
a SOP in place. An example of
some tasks requiring a SOP is as
follows:
• How to operate a forklift
• How to stack cartons
• How to correctly lift
• How to operate a chainsaw
• Using a ladder
• Operating a mower
If you don’t have a SOP in place
for some tasks, talk to your
Manager about creating one.
The more we think about safety,
the less likely we are to have
an incident. Safe Operating
Procedures are very detailed and
help us to avoid any injuries.
For more information about
SOP’s, please contact the OHS
department.

Healthy BBQ recipes
The arrival of Spring brings
with it longer days, warmer
weather and plenty of exciting
sporting events - Melbourne
Cup, Rugby Final, AFL final to
name the big ones. It also means
entertaining friends and family
around the BBQ. Typically, a
BBQ is a fatty fry up of sausages
and hamburgers accompanied
by creamy potato salads and
unhealthy coleslaw. We’ve done
a bit of research and come up
with some healthy recipes for
your next BBQ from the heart
foundation (and we’re not talking
vegie burgers either).
You can start off on the right foot
by swapping some unhealthy
foods for healthy alternatives.
For example, swap white bread
for wholemeal, grain or pita
bread. Use low fat mayonnaise
or Greek yoghurt in your potato
salad instead of whole egg mayo.
Substitute fatty BBQ sauces for
spice rubs like garlic, lemon, and
chilli with olive oil.
Why not try these BBQ salmon
skewers with fresh slaw salad –
yum!
