The four evening training sessions were conducted from the 2nd - 5th March 2009; 2 weeks prior to KidsGames
Ipoh III. The training was catered to assist and familiarize them in the games and curriculum.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Having done so many KidsGames, we have found that the KG is very useful in Youth Leadership
Development. We have asked the youths to conduct all the games and lessons alongside the teachers. By
taking up the roles of Games Masters, Songs & Actions and Helpers, the youth as young as 14 years were
exposed to leadership. We saw such good values & development in them during KidsGames Ipoh III.
WHAT WORKED?
• Established traffic marshal & ground crew ministry helped in the running of KG more effectively.
• Having done the training for 4 nights two weeks prior to the actual event kept the information fresh in
their memories and gave everyone a chance to recover!
• Making the training brief with only the information needed.
• Reminding the adults and youths that it’s important to have fun, becoming child-like. Easier if we bring
ourselves (us as adults) down to their level (kids) and befriending the children.
• Make every training session exciting by using ice-breakers, games and experiential games during the
training itself. This helped the trainers to teach the games while having fun simultaneously.
• Treat the trainees as children with care and excitement.
• Longer time for group discussions helped them to be more equipped in presenting the curriculum.
• Empowering the young people helped them become more significant & more responsible. Young
people are good with games. They are creative.
• Food provided to children was tasty and SIMPLE. During lunch time and tea breaks, children were
seated according to their color groups. This allowed better interaction among themselves. Teachers &
helpers were able to spend time with them.
• Personal attention needed for problem children.
• Movie time during lunch time kept all the kids in the hall. This was to prevent the kids from running
around so that teachers & helpers were able to rest. Ground Crew gave us great help in controlling the
kids during movie time.
• Cheer leading competition somehow motivated the kids by building up their team spirit. It was amazing
to see both the kids & teachers making efforts for the competition; encouraging each other; practicing
the cheers brought unity & togetherness.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN DONE BETTER?
• Recruitment of volunteers
• Having more time for the training and preparation would help improve the KG.
• Language barrier: Make sure people are notified (in the registration form) that classes and activities are
conducted in English only. In cases whereby there are children with language problem, we must make
sure that there are people who can help them to understand.
GAMES SESSIONS
• During competition games sessions, teachers & helpers were more excited than the kids. It’s ok to get
excited, but not too excited; let the kids enjoy.
• Ipoh kids loved the football game.
3) FOOTBALL Equipment : Soccer ball, goal posts, 5 volunteers for goal‐keeper, ball pickers and referees. Objective : To give an opportunity for all the participants to experience the world’s most popular sport. How to play : a) Round 1: 20 minutes 5 teams will simultaneously play a penalty shoot‐out. Each player will kick the ball into goal‐post as many time as they can play within the given time period. Highest 2 teams with the most goals will play in the finals. Rules : Everyone in the team must play b) Finals (between the two winning team) ‐ 30 minutes All team members must participate in this game; teams of 11 to play. • Testimony of God’s help: On the second day of KidsGames III, the football game was going to be conducted in the outdoor field. All teams were lining up on the field while the sky was covered with clouds ‐‐ it was about to rain! All teachers & helpers then encouraged all the kids to pray; pray for better weather so that they could enjoy the game. Kids’ faith was incredibly strong; they have demonstrated the power of faith. Amazingly, it never rained until we fnished our game! BENEFITS
• The Churches in Ipoh are equipped with the KidsGames Curriculum: The story of Paul, Joseph & David.
• More avenues and possibilities to organize KG every year and bring the Gospel to the children of Ipoh,
as well as Malaysia.
