A European First!
For his first feature-length film as a director, comedian and actor
Jamel Debbouze drew inspiration from What We Did to Father, a novel
by English writer Roy Lewis, published in 1960. It is the first French
animated comedy made entirely with motion capture.
The actors were dressed in special suits with 40 markers that enabled
their movements to be captured, as well as a helmet that captured
their facial expressions.

This historic conflict was instrumental in bringing about the signing of
the Civil Rights Act by President Johnson. Actor David Oyelowo (recently
seen in Interstellar and A Most Violent Year) brings to life the charismatic
political leader, whose determination and courage left an indelible mark
on American society. Oprah Winfrey, who plays activist Annie Lee Cooper,

A FILM WITH TWO ENDINGS

They Were Five has become the emblematic film of an era: the age
of the Popular Front. Charles Spaak, who co-wrote the script with
Julien Duvivier, would later explain that, “it was an age when
certain subjects were in the air.”
Filmed over the summer of 1936, the film brought together Jean Gabin,
Charles Vanel, and a young Viviane Romance in her debut film,
for a story of friendship and destiny. The film had a unique career
as it was screened with two different endings: one pessimistic,

THE RESTORATION
OF THE FILM
They Were Five was restored
in 4K from the nitrate negative
image. The 4K restoration was
carried out by the Immagine
Ritrovata laboratory
in Bologna, overseen by Pathé
and Christian Duvivier.
More than 2,300 hours of work
were needed to restore the film.

and Michel Simon (1939), and Twelve Hours to Live (aka Deadlier

and Danièle Delorme (1956).

When the film was initially released in various cinemas with the
pessimistic ending, initial feedback was very negative. The producer
convinced Duvivier and Spaak to film a second ending, a happier
one this time. It was this second ending that would be shown for
more than 70 years. Now, finally, following the wishes of Charles
Spaak and Julien Duviver, the pessimistic ending has been
reincorporated into the film, to be screened in a newly-restored version.

two new branded multiplexes in Arnhem and Maastricht.

Pathé Arnhem opened in October 2015. This is one of the most prominent theaters in the Netherlands
in an architectural way as well as state of the art cinema performance. It is equiped with 9 3D-enabled
screens, 1,683 seats and an IMAX® screen and 2 Dolby AtmosTM sound systems.
PATHÉ MAASTRICHT
Pathé Maastricht opened in November 2015. The theater is developed and located next to a historical
listed building located in the Belvédère district. It is equiped with 8 screens and 997 seats.

Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé expands into Belgium.
On December 1, 2015, Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé acquired Cinépointcom.
This Belgian network consists of five movie theaters, including two multiplexes:
Charleroi, with 14 screens and 3,300 seats;
Verviers, with 8 screens and 1,600 seats.
The other three cinemas are in the Belgian Ardennes: in Bastogne (2 screens),
Marche-en-Famenne (3 screens), and Libramont (2 screens).

uses three labels: the “Coup de Coeur,” the “Cine Tribu” and the “Autre Regard.” In 2015,

Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé’s mobile app won the prize for the best M-commerce #app at the AppAwards 2015,
the premier multi-platform app competition. The app, in particular, allows moviegoers to buy their e-tickets in less
than 60 seconds, or, thanks to SuperScan, to use a film poster to reserve tickets for their nearest cinema.

In Switzerland, the mobile app and the web site recorded 5.6 million visitors in 2015.
In the Netherlands, the mobile app recorded more than 340,000 visitors per month and the web site
was awarded the most popular site in 2015 in the category “Leisure activities.” In 2015, a total of
4.3 million e-tickets were sold through web and mobile channels in the Netherlands (31.7% of sales
against 23.4% in 2014).
ATTRACTIVE AND DEMATERIALISED SUBSCRIPTION PROGRAMMES
In France, the cinema experience of loyalty cardholders and subscribers has been improved with
technology meaning that subscription is instant
(in a few clicks, at the cinema or at home),
dematerialized (100% integrated into the mobile app),
and offers dedicated ticket terminals and priority
access at cinemas.
Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé is also the only network in
France to offer “Click & Collect”, a service which allows
spectators to buy their subscription card online, and
then collect it in person at the cinema. What’s more,
subscription cards Le Pass (Le Pass Solo and Le Pass
Duo) and the loyalty card can be saved in the electronic
wallet of the Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé’s mobile app.

OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS
The OL Groupe, a major player in the field of sport and entertainment
in France, is structured around Olympique Lyonnais, a premier league
football club. Pathé has been a shareholder of the OL Groupe since 1999.
The Parc Olympique Lyonnais, with its 59,186-seater stadium, which serves as the basis for the OL Groupe’s
development, was inaugurated on 9th January 2016, following a construction project lasting two and a half years.
The work was finished on schedule and within budget.
OL has thus become a member of the group of great European football clubs which own their own stadium.
As regards sporting success, at the end of the season 2014-2015, the men’s team were second in the French league
and the women’s team were once again at the top of the French league.
