Walter Barnett Plaque Dedication
Thank you to the Barnett family members and the retired teachers
Sharon Galvin Davis, Curt Fauth, Judi Fenn Patterson who joined
us on January 23, 2015. Mary Barnett Frey, Class of 1967, emailed
us, “On behalf of the entire Walter Barnett Family, I would like to
thank you so much for your donations to his plaque…. I loved the
opportunity to visit with two of my favorite teachers – Curt and Judi
– and watching a Grossmont/Helix basketball game certainly brought
back great memories of my high school days.” We appreciate all the
donors who made this moment in Foothiller history possible!
Jean Landis
Class of 1936, 2015 Hall of Honor Member, visited GHS, May 18, 2015
What a wonderful experience it was for the Grossmont AP US History
Students to hear Jean share her extraordinary experiences during
WWII as a Woman’s Air Force Service Pilot. (WASP) Afterwards,
several students told her how inspired they were by her. After
visiting the Museum, Jean wandered the halls of the “Castle” reliving
her Foothiller memories. Jean touched everyone she met with her
remarkable story and wonderful enthusiasm for life!
War Memorial
Thank you Luther Burney, Class of 1964, and Craig Burney, Class of
1968, for the beautifully moving tribute to the 8 Foothillers who lost
their lives in the Vietnam War. Luther visited the Vietnam Wall in
Washington, D.C. and made rubbings of each of their names. Then,
Craig had the rubbings matted and framed and presented it to the
Museum. We have created a new Museum display commemorating
the Foothillers who lost their lives in WWII, the Korean War, and the
Middle East Wars.
Big G on the Hill
Thank you Bill Woolman, Class of 1962, for fully funding the GHS
Alumni Website for an entire year and for funding the trenching,
painting, and more to bring the Big G on the Hill back to life.(the
large G on the slope in front of the grey “Castle”)
Class of 1989 Sign
Thank you Gene Chubb, Class of 1948, of RCP, for donating the
concrete block and labor to renovate the pillars of the Class of 1989
sign and for donating the concrete block and gravel to renovate
the Big G on the Hill. Also, thanks to a generous donation to the
GHS Educational Foundation from the Gerald Fackler Charitable
Remainder Trust, the face of the sign will be renovated as well.
1937 Old Gym Sign
Thank you Class of 1964 for fully funding a sign for the
Old Gym stating “Auditorium-Gymnasium 1937”. The class
generously used the proceeds from their 50th Reunion to
recreate the Old Gym’s historic sign and the remainder to
fund a display case for the new Student Support Services
Center.
Thank You
Ken Whitcomb, Class of 1949, for donating his amazing family
collection of Foothiller memorabilia including 1930’s-1940’s track
ribbons, football and basketball programs, newspaper articles,
photographs, and more!
Bill Hoffman, Class of 1964, for donating his GHS memorabilia,
including his class ring, ASB cards, Christmas Pageant ticket and
