The entire staff at the St. Clair Shores Senior Center for Active Adults has always been beyond grateful for the dedication and commitment to our volunteers. The hours dedicated to help make this center vibrant and a leader in the industry is largely due to the multiple volunteers that give so much of themselves. What a poignant quote. This is precisely why Erin and I are working on a Volunteer Appreciation event in August. If you are one of the many that give of your time at the center keep an eye out for your invitation. On behalf of the entire staff thank you for being a part of our team. If you are not a current volunteer but would like to give of your time stop in the office and talk to one of our office team members. We have volunteer opportunities for our welcome center as well as our special events throughout the year. Team Senior Center would also like to extend our gratitude to city administration, mayor and council for their constant support of the programs and services at the center. Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure by thumbs and fingers to specific “reflex” points and areas on the feet in order to improve the recipient’s health. These areas and reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems, and pressing on them has a beneficial effect on the body and a person's general health. For example, reflexo logy holds that a specific spot in the arch of the foot corresponds to the bladder point. When a reflexology practitioner uses thumbs or fingers to apply appropriate pressure to this area, it affects bladder functioning and encourages a return to normal functioning. May 6th May 13th May 20th June 3rd Yann Martel's ponderous adventure novel gets the big-screen treatment with this Fox 2000 adaptation helmed by director Ang Lee. The coming-of-age story surrounds the son of a zookeeper who survives a shipwreck by stowing away on a lifeboat with a zebra, an orangutan, a hyena, and a Bengal tiger by the name of Richard Parker. Suraj Sharma heads up the cast as the young boy, with Gérard Depardieu, Adil Hussain, Irrfan Khan, Rafe Spall, and Bollywood actress Tabu also starring. A burnt-out soccer star tries to win back his family but gets distracted by his wandering eye in this romantic comedy starring Gerard Butler. His bank account drained and his libido fatigued, professional soccer player George (Butler) hangs up his cleats and heads back to Virginia. Determined to do right in the eyes of his ex-wife (Jessica Biel) and their lonely son (Noah Lomax), George takes a job coaching a local soccer team and begins working to form the young players into true athletes. But with every cougar in town eyeing him from the sidelines, George finds that staying focused on the job and keeping his prurient impulses in check are easier said than done. Academy-award winning director Tom Hooper's adaptation of the beloved musical LES MISERABLES makes no major changes to the original's plot. The story follows former prisoner Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), who, after being released from the watchful eye of police officer Javert (Russell Crowe), is unable to find work because of his status as an ex-convict. He eventually steals from a local church, but when apprehended, the priest claims that Valjean was given the valuables. This triggers a change in Valjean, and he constructs a new identity for himself as a pillar of society and a local businessman. Years later, he adopts a young girl named Cosette, whose mother Fantine (Anne Hathaway), a former employee of his, became a prostitute and died a horrible death in the gutters after being fired. As the years progress and the French Revolution begins to foment, a grown Cosette (Amanda Seyfried) falls for a passionate revolutionary named Marius (Eddie Redmayne), while Javert begins to close in again on Valjean's secret past. Steven Spielberg helms his long-in-the-making biopic of Abraham Lincoln for DreamWorks and Touchstone Pictures. Daniel Day-Lewis portrays the former head of state in the Tony Kushner-penned adaptation of Doris Kearns Goodwin's book TEAM OF RIVALS, which chronicles the President's time in office between 1861 and 1865 as he dealt with personal demons and politics during the Civil War. Sally Field leads a costarring cast that includes Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Academy Award nominee John Hawkes. Billy Crystal and Bette Midler star as Artie and Diane -- an old-school grandfather and his people-pleasing wife, who babysit for their three decidedly 21st century grandchildren while the kids' type-A parents (played by Marisa Tomei and Tom Everett Scott) are away for work. Artie's traditional ideas go toe-to-toe with the kids' (and their parents') cutting-edge, multitasking ways, but this modern family comes to learn that love, understanding, and an openness to trying new and old things, will always keep a family together. Andy Fickman directs from a script by Lisa Addario and Joe Syracuse. In Anne Fletcher's family comedy, Barbra Streisand plays Joyce Brewster, a sixty something widow who has given up on men and seems to spend most of her free time phoning her son Andrew (Seth Rogen), a chemist who has created an all-natural cleaning solution that he's bet his career on and is trying to sell to retailers (a wager that he's losing thus far). As the movie opens, Andrew returns home to spend some time with his mom before going on a cross-country road trip to pitch his product in various cities, ending with a trip to Las Vegas where he'll shoot a Home Shopping Network demo. David O. Russell's SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK stars Bradley Cooper as Pat, a bipolar man from Philadelphia who has spent the last eight months in a mental hospital. He was ordered there after a violent incident involving his wife and another man. Pat moves in with his father (Robert De Niro), a lifelong Eagles fans who has low-level OCD issues. Pat wants to get back together with his wife, even though there is a restraining order keeping him from contacting her. He soon befriends a depressed young woman who's mourning the death of her husband by engaging in compulsive sex with almost everyone she meets; she also knows his wife and offers to deliver a letter of his to her if he acts as her partner in a local dance competition. SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK screened at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. Page -12- June 10th June 17th June 24th July 1st L E V A R T Cruise beautiful Lake Michigan.
