For Active Adults
Find us on facebook: St. Clair Shores Senior Center (50+)
Although summer has just begun our team is hard at work to prepare for our Annual Apple Pie Fundraiser
and 3rd Annual Fall Harvest Festival which will be a “Made in Michigan” Market. This year we will host a two
day vendor show with a charity hockey game and beer tent. We are in the process of booking sought after
Metro Detroit bands to add to the festivities. Mark your calendars for Friday, September 20 (1-10:30 pm) and
Saturday, September 21 (10 am-10:30 pm). Of course our apple pies will be on sale those days as well.
At this time we are seeking pie partners. Our wish list consists of:
150 lbs. Of sugar
150 lbs. Of flour
3 lbs. Of cinnamon
300 gallon freezer bags (Ziplock© Bags)
300 Sandwich baggies (Ziplock © Bags)
NEW Apple Peelers
NEW Pairing Knives
We are also seeking 80 people to sponsor a case of apples. Each case is $25. There is an opportunity for
persons/companies to provide lunches for volunteers who are making the pies as well.
If you are interested in participating by donating anyone of the above items please drop off at the Senior
Center for Active Adults at 20000 Stephens (located next to the Civic Arena). Checks can be made out to:
SCOTS (Senior Center of the Shores).
In years past, we have been overwhelmed by the community’s generosity towards our Apple Pie Fundraiser.
We are confident that the generosity towards this fundraiser for our meal program will continue. Already we
have had multiple persons and companies step up to commit to this project. A humble heartfelt thank you to
GTJ and St. Clair Shores finest (Police and Fire) for stepping up to offer to raise monies by playing in a
charity hockey game. Thank you to Shorepointe Nursing Center, Henry Ford Health Systems, and Home
Instead who have also signed on to financially support this event to raise monies for our meal program.
Thank you never seems to be enough when so many generous people step up to help in times where our
programs seem to endure governmental cut backs. People coming together to help in times like these is
what makes St. Clair Shores so special. Thank you to all!
A special thank you extended to city administration, mayor and council for their constant support of the
programs and services at the center.
THANK YOU!

REFLEXOLOGY
It’s More Than Just a Foot rub!
We are currently looking into starting a chair
pilates class at our center with an instructor
provided by Balance Pilates Studio and Spa in
St. Clair Shores but we need you!
Chair pilates for seniors is a
50-55min class, primarily done
seated with some standing.
The focus is on core stability &
control, and gentle way to
practice the pilates philosophy.
Pilates exercises are great
because they can be individualized & modified
for any limitation. "No pain & All Gain". One
example of how Pilates helps seniors is posture
and spine health. Over time, gravity
compresses the bones of our spine. Impact
from activity and long periods of sitting or
standing in life only multiplies gravity’s effects.
But Pilates works to lengthen all the connections
into the spine. It enhances the flexibility of back
muscles and focuses on fluid movement.
Posture is improved through a Pilates practice,
and seniors, who tend to “shrink” and
experience back problems with age, directly
benefit.
Interested in a gentle, non-invasive healing practice
to complement your current medical care? Need
relief from unexplained aches and pains?
Welcome to the very "hands-on" practice of Reflexology. Reflexology is the application of appropriate
pressure by thumbs and fingers to specific “reflex”
points and areas on the feet in order to improve the
recipient’s health.
These areas and reflex
points correspond to different
body organs and systems,
and pressing on them has a
beneficial effect on the body
and a person's general
health. For example, reflexo
logy holds that a specific spot in the arch of the foot
corresponds to the bladder point. When a reflexology practitioner uses thumbs or fingers to apply
appropriate pressure to this area, it affects bladder
functioning and encourages a return to normal functioning.

and plopped himself down on a chair. “Get me a steak, well
done and with mashed potatoes,” he hollered. Three
minutes later when his order came, John screamed,
“DIDN’T YOU HEAR ME SAY WELL DONE?!” “Why thank
you sir,” Marilyn, the waitress said, “that was the first
compliment I got all day!”
