Brunei – “The Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures” Brunei Darussalam located on the North West Coast Coast of Borneo Island, covers an area of 5665 sq. km (2,226 sq miles) and is actually divided into 2 separated parts by the Limbang District of Sarawak and comprised of 4 administrative districts. Brunei Darussalam has a hot tropical equatorial climate, with high rainfall and warmth temperature all year round, averaging 28 degree Celsius. Known to be the oldest Malay state on the island of Borneo, Brunei Darussalam once controlled the whole of Borneo Island and also with one of the longest ruling Sultanate family since 14th century and His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, the current ruler of Brunei, is the 29th Sultant of the lineage. At the end of the 5th Sultan Bolkiah’s “Golden Age” reign, one of the most vivid descriptions about Brunei Darussalam in the 16th Century was provided by a European voyager, Antonio Pigafetta from Ferdinand Magellan’s expedition. Brunei Darussalam is a small country with Population of less than half a million people. Brunei Darussalam is a multi-ethnic society where 65% of the populations are Malay. Bahasa Malayu is the official language of Brunei Darussalam since the existence of the Brunei Constitution but English is widely spoken and understood among the locals, mainly due to the fact that Brunei Darussalam was a British Protectorate country prior to 1984 independence.
