There are 11 departments under the Ministry of Home Affairs: Brunei-Muara District Department; Belait District Department; Tutong District Department; Temburong District Department; Immigration and National Registration Department; Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department; Department of Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal; Tutong Municipal Department; Fire Rescue Department; Labour Department; and Prison Department. At the helm of Brunei Darussalam’s economic diversification drive is the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR). Formed in 1989, MIPR took on the responsibility of promoting and facilitating industrial development in Brunei Darussalam by offering investors an environment that is conducive for investment in terms of security, stability, continuity, confidence and competitiveness. MIPR has achieved a considerable measure of success in transforming Brunei Darussalam's economic landscape. Beginning as a small regional firm, it is now a progressive international air and sea freight forwarder. Its core services are involved in the import and export of trade services. OFFICIAL CCTV SERVICES PROVIDER Oregon Systems has IP networking solutions. It has extensive expertise in deploying and supporting IP Communications and security solutions. Its focus is predominantly on deploying and supporting Cisco Advanced Technologies to improve productivity and reduce support costs. UNI Arcade Funland has its outlets at The Mall at Gadong, Yayasan, Bunut and Seria. The company has forum and does organise video game tournaments in their respective outlets. Co-leta Trading Company is a renowned wholesaler of complete ranges of school and office supplies in Brunei Darussalam. It also specialises in offset printing of different advertising and promotional materials. 7 1.3 Activity Partners First founded in April 2005, BlueWaters Advertising Sdn Bhd is a leading advertising and marketing consultancy firm in Brunei Darussalam. Standing proudly while engineering in product, sales and financial excellence; BlueWaters is the publisher of the number one free “family magazine” in Brunei Darussalam. Being established in 1999, GreenCity Concept has its presence in Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Thailand. Also, the company has became the official marketing agent for Red Bull in Brunei Darussalam since 2002. Ed Pet Shop owns by a group of reptiles lovers who are keen to showcase and expose their presence in order to educate public on the perception of reptiles. They own a variety of exotic animals including snakes, pythons and lizards. Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd is now a trusted name that inspires confidence in its clients and customers. In the beginning, Sunlit Advertising was mainly involved in producing advertising signage. Today, its core business is mainly in providing comprehensive, all-inclusive marketing and advertising solutions and in event management. Its market leading position today is the result of many years of very careful planning, organization and relentless dedication to deliver top quality products, services and solutions Sunlit Advertising is behind big expositions held in Brunei Darussalam, including the Consumer Fair, International Halal Products Expo, Home and Lifestyle Expo, Technology Expo, Sukan Ria Antara Syarikat, Brunei v Edutainment Wonderland and many more. In 2010, Sunlit Advertising started to organise events outside Brunei Darussalam. Sunlit successfully held the BIMP-EAGA Consumer and Trade Expo in Kota Kinabalu in August 2010 and Celcom Christmas Carnivals in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching in December 2010. 10 2.2 About the Consumer Fair Primarily aimed at creating a platform for both local and international products and services to be introduced and showcased to the Brunei Darussalam’s market, Consumer Fair was incepted in January 2008. Due to overwhelming demand from both the exhibitors and visitors, it was then decided to organise the fair bi-annually since the first one. The Consumer Fair has then became an instant hit and being developed as the most popular and biggest fair in Brunei Darussalam. As the fair welcomes all varieties of products and services to be showcased with no limitations, it attracts quality exhibitors from locals and overseas including exhibitors from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Syria, Chinese-Taipei, Iran, Indonesia, India, Yemen as well as Pakistan. Consumer Fair not only attracts numerous v quality exhibitors, but also draws in large crowds who came to the fair for great bargains and interesting activities. The first fair had attracted 43,326 visitors and this figure shoots up to over 100,000 visitors in the last Consumer Fair (Consumer Fair Part 8). For each Consumer Fair, the Organiser comes up with different theme park for the public which includes “Around the World in 60 minutes,” “Ocean World,” and “Night Safari – Sculpted Theme Park”. CF 9 was organised on 04 – 08 January 2012 at one of the most popular venues, International Convention Centre (ICC), with daily operating hours from 10.00am to 10.00pm. Exhibitors from various countries including Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, Malaysia, China, Indonesia and India were proudly presenting and exhibiting their products and services to the Brunei community. Over 330 booths were featured comprising of the local and foreign exhibitors. Continuously breaking the record of the v number of visitors to the fair, CF 9 attracted around 120,000 people coming from different working group ranging from government sectors to family. Aside from the availability of wide range of products and services being showcased, various interesting activities which include lucky draws, caught the attention of the public to travel all the way down to the biggest fair in town. 16 PART 3 ~ EVENT HIGHLIGHTS 3.1 Official Opening Ceremony 3.2 The Guest of Honour’s Exhibition Tour 3.3 Activities and Attractions 3.4 General Schedule of Activities 17 3.1 Official Opening Ceremony The Consumer Fair Part 9 was officiated by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah , Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei Darussalam on 04 January 2012 morning at 09 00 on the Plenary Hall stage. Aside from the various government officials from various ministries, invited guests included directors from the corporate companies as well as the supporters and sponsors for the event. Dato Paduka Haji Danial bin Haji Hanafiah, the Executive Director of Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd as well as being the event’s Organising Chairman, gave a speech during the opening ceremony. “At this point, I would like to inform that CF8 in May 2011 attracted over 100,000 visitors. We hope that CF9 will draw in even more people, and continue the trend of breaking the record number of visitors seen at the most recent Consumer Fair.” Aside from introducing the new and interactive activities for Consumer Fair 9, Dato Haji Danial also expressed his appreciation to the supporting partners as well as the exhibitors to make this event a success. During the opening ceremony, on behalf of Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd, Mr. Jackson Ting, Managing Director presented a cheque donation to the Guest of Honour whom received on behalf of Tabung Badan Kebajikan Kebangsaan. After the ceremony, the Guest of Honour went on an exhibition tour, together with Dato Haji Danial, the Executive Director of Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd, and Mr. Jackson Ting, the Managing Director of Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd, to learn the different products and services that were showcased during the fivedays fair. 18 3.2 The Guest of Honour’s Exhibition Tour Baiduri Bank officer introducing its services. Group photo between Guest of honour and the Event Organiser. 21 3.3 Activities and Attractions Located in Banquet Hall, Balloon World was brought in by a local company namely Spades Trading Sdn Bhd (SPADES). Inside the Balloon World, several interesting sculpture which were being displayed including mosque, motorbike, Transformer, Angry Birds, and even picture of Michael Jackson – all made of balloons! In the other side of Banquet Hall, Kids World offered interesting activities specially for the kids. Organised by BlueWaters Advertising Sdn Bhd, Kids World offered different show schedules of live performances of Pirates of the Carribbean, Spongebob Squarepants as well as Toy Story. 22 3.3 Activities and Attractions During the five days fair, UNI Arcade Funland organised a UNI Arcade Basketball Shooting Competition which the top 10 scorers will go to the final round on the last day and compete their shooting skills. Only the top 3 scorers can walk away with cash prizes sponsored from UNI Arcade Funland. Co-leta Trading Company, one of the activity partners of CF 9, organised two interesting activities eligible for children – Air Dry Beady Dough Contest and Double A Colouring Contest. The contests are divided into 3 categories where Category A is for 5 – 7 years old, Category B for 8 – 10 years old and Category C for 11 – 13 years old. Winners are presented with trophy, certificates as well as attractive hampers. 23 3.3 Activities and Attractions Organised by Greencity Concept, Red Bull Monkey Run was one of the most attractive activities among visitors. Simply purchase a Red Bull drink to participate and visitors will stand a chance to win Red Bull Monkey Run t-shirt or a 4R photo frame after completion of the course within the given time frame. House of Snakes which was located in Press Conference Hall, offered visitors a chance to view and in physical contact with live reptiles. Information such as organiser details, activities information, exhibitors’ profiles, press releases, photo gallery and other useful information are available for visitors and exhibitors. 37 5.3 Pre-Event Activities A Partners’ Signing of Agreement Ceremony between Organiser and Event and Activity partners took place on 19 December 2011 in Sunlit Advertising’s Multipurpose Hall. Signing on behalf of Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd is its Executive Director, Dato Haji Danial bin Haji Hanafiah, and witnessed by Ms. Sherly Tan, Assistant Marketing Manager. An Exhibitors’ Briefing was conducted on 27 December 2011 in Sunlit Advertising’s Multipurpose Hall. The briefing was conducted by Ms. Sherly Tan, Assistant Marketing Manager.
