NMAF October Newsletter
NMAF October Newsletter Yard Sale Finale Bart and Sally hosted the fall yard sale at their home on September 18 and 19, as part of the Glenwood Hills Neighborhood Garage Sale. Bart sold many pre-sale items, and the Friday sale was a big success! Saturday sales were slightly slower, but we sold a lot of furniture and small items. Proceeds from the fall yard sale will be used up rapidly with medical bills for our dogs and cats, so please keep us in mind for future donations. Check your drawers, closets, garage, and shed for your old treasures you might want to find new homes for! We accept donations year round. Please call Bart at 306-0622 to arrange for pick-up of your donations. NMAF needs a space to hold a spring yard sale, so if you would like to let us use your driveway, or if you have items that need to be picked up pronto, please give Bart a call at 306-0622. Annual Newsletter We are working with gusto on our Annual Newsletter that will be mailed in mid-November. There will be articles you won’t want to miss like, “The Joys of Being a Foster Parent” and “What it Means to be a Volunteer.” Interested in reading our past newsletters? You can find them all on our website. Dog News September brought slightly cooler temperatures and slightly cooler adoptions rates than the very HOT August! Dog adoptions included Gucci, Rocco, Red, Jasper, Josie, Niles, Sydney, Dixon, Phoebe/Brownie, Peanut and Jessie! Gucci had been with us for a while and found a wonderful Pomeranian companion. Rocco and Red, too, had been with us longer than some but went to a home together (remarkable) and the little dachsies are thriving in a house that has stairs and a resident cat! Peanut, recuperated from her head injury, found a loving home. The three "J" puppies all were adopted to separate homes. Phoebe moved to Santa Fe! We have the mother of Frazier, Niles, Lucky and Trixie. She was already pregnant when we got the foursome and soon delivered 6 more. She is now weaning the puppies and soon will be spayed and the puppies will be ready for foster/adoption. Stay tuned to the web site for their debut pictorials! They are little bundles of black and white joy! Other intakes this month include Jacqueline, Marco, Tut, Sadie, Tombone, Daisy and Bambi. Daisy is Bambi's mom. Daisy has a left cherry eye and Bambi has a right cherry eye. While not causing damage now, both eyes will be surgically treated at TLC to increase their adoption chances. Daisy will need a dental cleaning and Bambi will possibly need an ectopic spleen removed, and both will be spayed.. The cost of these veterinary procedures are necessary, and are significant investments to insure long term, good health for these dogs. Our adoption fees will help to cover some of the medical expenses, but donations and fundraising activities are used to cover the remaining costs. Daisy Bambi In addition, NMAF rescued two loose dogs. One was reunited after a lengthy investigation. The chip address and phone numbers had not been updated so it took a while illustrating the importance of making sure the information on your animals is current. The other was not chipped and not traceable. Both are sweet dogs and found wandering in traffic. Cat Mews The NMAF Cat Team welcomes three great new volunteers – Christine, Sharon and Rose! We look forward to working together at our adoption events and special events, too! Special thanks are in order to all our volunteers for their excellent help covering both the adoption clinics, at PetSmart and the grand opening of PetSense, through rain, hail and wind! We met new friends and visited with a few old friends, too! Two young kitties are back in the fold — Nikki and Decker are looking for new, loving homes. Please come to visit these charming youngsters and their older and wiser cat kennel comrades at our adoption events on Saturdays at PetSmart on Academy, from 11 to 4. Nikki Decker The NMAF Cat Team would like to offer a Sunday afternoon adoption clinic and we’re enrolling volunteers now! Please give us a call at 881-7297, or e-mail Jeri at [email protected] if you think you might be interested in helping out at any of our adoption events. Web Site Upgrade Have you checked out the awesome videos Sandy added last month of our available dogs and cats? The videos add to the adopt-ability by showing potential adopters the spunky antics of our fabulous animals. We are in the process of "jazzing" up our website so look for new videos and tabs. We have added a “Rehome” tab, which includes our Intake form. This form is filled out by owners of animals needing to be rehomed. Copyright © 2015 New Mexico Animal Friends, All rights reserved.
