`The Baggy Maroon` - St Christopher`s Cricket Club
‘The Baggy Maroon’ 5 times BDCA Junior Club Champions. Current Under 9 and C Reserve Premiers Issue 1 Volume 12 http://stchristopherscc.nsw.cricket.com.au/ 12 September 2015 WELCOME MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT Welcome everyone to the 2015/2016 season ! There was a changing of the guard with our beloved Secretary Brett Court standing aside for Andrew Divan who has already done an outstanding job getting everybody on the park. I also welcome this year’s committee back and know everything will run like a well-oiled machine. I would like to thank the returning players and coaches and welcome all the new faces at the club. This year promises to be even bigger than last, with 5 new Mini teams coming on board, teams right through the junior ages and 2 senior teams to battle it out against one another ! Good luck to all players trying out for Reps this year and we know you will do the club proud. We also have some fantastic events coming up, including our Welcome Night at the Diggers on 17 October and our Bunnings BBQ fundraiser on 25 October, plus many more events later on in the season. I would like to wish everyone the best of luck on the park, and hope you all enjoy yourselves thoroughly. I look forward to getting around and meeting the old and new faces throughout the season. I am always contactable with any issues and will always try and make your stay at Saints a memorable one ! Yours in Sport, John Clay President SAINTS CRICKET - WELCOME SAUSAGE SIZZLE Each season we like to welcome all families, especially our new families, to a Welcome Sausage Sizzle at Panania Diggers. Saints Cricket enjoys a great reputation as a family club and we encourage you to come down and meet families from your team as well as families from other teams. Please keep this date free (from approx 5.30 pm) and we look forward to seeing you there! SATURDAY 17 OCTOBER PANANIA DIGGERS from approx. 5.30 pm REGISTRATION DAYS The lead up to the start of the season is always pretty chaotic as we advertise, organise registrations, put players into teams and get training going....all in a very short space of time ! . We appreciate your patience as all this was happening. We are very happy with the number of new registrations we have this season and we can already see some fantastic talent. We are looking forward to an enjoyable and successful season. BUNNINGS BBQ FUNDRAISER - SUNDAY 25 OCTOBER One of our major fundraisers each season is managing the BBQ at Bunnings Bankstown Airport and we are doing it again this season. It is an important fundraiser for the club. However, we need your support to make sure it is a successful day for the club. This is how the club raises the funds to get our teams on the field each weekend. It is a fun day and, if we get all teams involved, we will only need about one hour of your time to assist. We will provide more information closer to the day, but please put this in your calendar now. SUNDAY 25 OCTOBER REGISTRATION FEES CAN BE PAID NOW ! Please assist by seeing your coach / manager as soon as possible, OR We are again taking Registration payments via EFT. Under 9s Maroon Round 1 - St Christophers U9 Maroon def St Christophers U9 Gold Well, the season kicked off with a local derby between us and our other Saints team. As their coach was late, we took it upon ourselves to have a bowl. The boys bowled and fielded brilliantly. Very few sundries and plenty of wickets, with Kristian taking 2 wickets and one of our new recruits, Cameron taking his first. Everyone was switched on in the field, even when getting carried away by flying ants!! We kept the Gold team to a minimal 36 runs of their 20 overs. I opened the batting with Matthew (8) and Harley (1) and they got us off to a steady start against some quick bowling. Zac (8) and Luca (8) were next in and kept the runs flowing. Then followed the next pair of Max (7) and Sam (3) who continued to keep the scoring ticking along. The day was getting warmer, and the flying ants asked their cousins to come along, and by now there were millions! The next pair of Kristian (8) and Kai (2) continued on our run chase steadily and the last 4 overs were shared between Harry (4), Josh (3) and Cameron (0 with limited batting). We didn’t lose a wicket the whole innings and everyone batted very well, scoring 56. Too strong in the end for the Golds. Thank you to all the parents who cheered the boys on, and for my Managers, Nikki and Linda, for scoring and getting the boys organised. As I am out on the field when we are batting, it would be great if you could check when you son is batting and get him padded up ready to save time. This is another reason to support Panania Diggers – the place for family and friends to gather together to enjoy good food and pleasant company in a comfortable and relaxing environment. We won the toss and we decided to bowl first. The boys bowled well at times but we bowled far too many extras (56) which meant we couldn’t apply any pressure to Milperra. I feel with time we will be a good bowling unit when we have some more practice. Milperra set us a challenging 99 for victory. We opened with Dylan Cutting and Hayden Swibel. We lost Dylan Cutting and Connor Bryce cheaply and Owen Millar joined Hayden Swibel at the crease. The boys batted beautifully and were helped by the extras Milperra were bowling. The boys took the score from 2 for 17 in the 3rd over to 3 for 78 in the 20th over. We needed 23 runs off the last 5 overs to win. Marcus Spaits showed me he is capable of hitting some big balls. He hit a ball for four that went like bullet out of a gun. Unfortunately he chopped on for 5 which brought Eehan Hashmi to the middle. The boys did well and they knew what they had to do. We needed 3 off the last over to win. The boys got there with 2 balls to spare. We played out the over and Swibel hit a great 4 to finish the match. Great start to the season…. plenty of improvement in our squad this year and I’m very excited about this team. Great kids and great parents make a great team. Jack and Sean put on a great 52 run partnership to open the innings. Sean departed for a solid 22 runs with the ball clipping the top of off stump, ending his innings. Moh came to the crease and put on a clinical batting display scoring 52 before having to retire including 11 boundaries, 6 boundaries in a row off an over to end his innings. Jack batted most of the innings, putting together his first 50 and highest score – great opening knock! We started our bowling with newcomer Arash bowling a maiden followed by Hanan with a maiden, also including a composed run out by Moh. In the 4th over one of the team’s greatest improvers over the past few years, Abdullah, took a fantastic high catch and celebrated by throwing the ball even higher in the air followed by the team jumping on him to salute his best ever catch. The wickets kept tumbling with Trent taking two wickets and Ky finding himself on a hat-trick through a bowled and Jordan taking his second catch of the match! Nick came on and took a wicket in his first over, followed by a 2nd wicket with a caught and bowled in his second. Mick Forrester bowled as tight as always and Tom took the last wicket with Trent taking his second catch. A fantastic way to start the cricket season with great contributions by the whole team! The team were positive in the field but the outstanding performance was Mark Walter with an exceptional 46 which held the innings together. 1st Game, good start…. but we can improve boys! Our C Reserve boys swept all before them last season, winning the One-Day Premiership as well as being crowned overall Premiers at Graf Park in a premiership decider that the pundits are still raving about Unfortunately, Albion did their best to dampen the euphoria by taking FOREVER to produce the traditional baggy maroon premiership caps. However, they did arrive and the boys were presented with them at their first round game....obviously inspired them to great heights. The boys are looking to do it all again this season, but face some very tough opposition ! Good luck. THANK YOU TO OUR GENEROUS SPONSORS For all your real estate needs.....
