A WORD FROM YOUR OREGON DISTRICT RIDE EDUCATOR
GRAHAM MUNSELL
At the Oregon District Rally will have some
opportunities
to
further
enhance
your
riding experience. The will be a Motorist
Awareness training class presented by
Mike & Janet Turner on Friday & Saturday.
If you are in the levels program this is a
much needed course. There will be a trailer
class offered on Friday. Saturday there will
be a class on Motorcycle Crash Scene
Response. These classes will be hosted by
the team of trainers; Bob & Dawna Hitch,
Teri & Cheri Huffman and Mike & Janet
Turner. Tentative times will be Friday, 10am
& 11am Saturday 9am and 10am. Checkout
the Rally schedule for more info when the
times are finalized.
Governor’s Advisory Committee on Motorcycle Safety
April 2014
The Governor’s Advisory Committee on Motorcycle Safety convened on April 17.
The Team Oregon representative Pat Hahn reported that the number of students
is lower than anticipated. The 2014 instructor training group is progressing well
to be in place by this summer. There is plenty of room for you to participate in
one of the many courses offered.
The DMV representative updated the GAC on the finalizing of the trike definition.
The next meeting will likely provide the training portion discussion of the trike
issue.
The 2014 motorcycle map is at the publisher will be ready in early May. There
will be 5 new routes recommended by committee (with assistance) on the map.
The reverse side is being updated as well. There will be only one run printed for
this season.
The committee participated in the second phase of their five year plan. There
were many new ideas presented.
meeting in May.
These will be further discussed at the final
There will be a short period for input from the public on the
ideas.
An alliance from the Albany area has developed a new magnetic sign that will
be attached to the rear of Linn County trucks reminding all drivers to be alert to
the presence of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists. The alliance is made
up of Bike PAC, a local bicycling group and a pedestrian group. The yellow sign
is about 8” x 10” with images of those roadway users.
There have been 8 fatalities as of April 17 in Oregon for 2014!
there were 4 in 2013 and two in 1999.
By comparison,
That is an average of 7 per year.
Obviously we have awareness and training to do to prevent these senseless
losses of life.
Three of those occurred over the first warm period Oregon
experienced. None of those three were caused by other drivers. We are killing
ourselves!
The next meeting will be held May 15, 2014 at the Dept. of Transportation.
TRIKE ARC CLASS
We have setup a trike ARC class for June 7, 2014. Dawna
and Bob Hitch will be the instructors. The site will be at
Power Sports in Sublimity. The class will be conducted in
one day beginning at 9:30 am sharp. That means you need
to be registered and seated by 9:25 am. Space is limited to
6 riders per instructor so do not wait to make your request.
At last report there are 9 nine slots taken.
Get your registration to the Hitches promptly if you are
interested in this course.
Registrations must be at the
Hitches residence, 708 Second St., Silverton, OR 97381 by
May 22 per Dawna.
The cost is $30 per student.
The
Oregon District Director is generously paying ½ of the
registration for current Oregon GWRRA members.
Contact me or Dawna Hitch for a registration form.
The classroom portion is 9:30 am to 12:30. Lunch from 1:30
pm.12:30pm. Course work will be completed from 2 – 6 pm.
Obviously you need to arrive with a full tank of fuel and an
empty bladder when you sit down.
The opportunity for training and refresher training for our
riders should not be passed up.
From the Desk of the Director, May 2014
We hope you have gotten your bike out and started enjoying our
beautiful state. If you ride a trike, there will be a Trike Riders Course
on Saturday, June 7th. This class is not only educational, but also a lot
of FUN. If you are interested, please contact Bob and Dawna Hitch,
Chapter Directors of Chapter I.
Oregon District Rally 2014 is coming up in June. Sundance Meadows
in Bend will be the rally site again this year. They are looking forward
to having us and the rally team has been busy getting organized for
you to have a fun time. There is a new design for the shirts this year,
so be sure to order them on your pre-registration. Bring your swim
suits to use the indoor pool, mini golf course available and trail rides
on the ranch’s horses. The catered dinner (pre-registration only) will
be served by Kelly Duren again this year. Breakfast will be available
for purchase at very reasonable prices. Be the first to hear where the
2015 Oregon Rally will be and what the new dates will be, announced
at the closing ceremonies.
While you are planning your summer, be sure to include GWRRA
events, Chapter Meetings and Rides.

Trent’s Talk What funny weather we have been having. By now you would think there
should be more dry days then wet ones. But I guess that’s what I get for trying to
think.
Chapter G started the month out with a pancake breakfast at Pratum
Elementary School. The pancake feed is one of their major fundraisers
where all of the money raised is used to fund things for the children.
After the pancake feed there were about 10 members who also participate in the
ABCity tour who got together to go look for “B” cities then dinner after a long day of
riding.
Our April monthly Gathering at the Elks Club was cancelled so we could attend Taylor
Motorcycles Inc. 50th Anniversary in business celebration. Taylor Motorcycles Inc.
has been a long standing sponsor for Chapter G.
Taylor Motorcycles Inc. had a whole week of specials, and fun starting on April 15
through the 19th with Saturday the 19th being their BIG Day. They had a BBQ, drinks,
prizes, a 70 mile ride, and a slow ride contest.
On April 26th we had our Right Turn Only Ride which started at Taylor Motorcycle, Inc.
in Woodburn, Oregon. The route that was set up allowed us to see the wonderful
country side the Willamette valley has to offer. For the most part, everyone was able
to stay dry during the ride. took us on the back roads from Woodburn back into
Salem. We ended the ride at the Rock Wood Fired Pizza on Center Street in Salem.
For the month of May, Chapter G has two dinner rides scheduled. The first is on May
7th at the Wooden Nickel in Silverton and the 2nd is on May 21 at the Marquam Inn,
Marquam Oregon.
Our Chapter Gathering will be held at the Elks on May 17th , with breakfast starting at
8:00 and the Gathering starting after breakfast.
Be safe out there, the only person truly looking out for you is yourself.

Convention.
The Oregon District Convention will be returning to Sundance Meadows in Bend, June 12, 13, & 14. Last year Chapter I

Hello Friends
We'll friends once again it's that time. News
letter time, that is. Over the past weekend
Olga and I attended the Right Turn Ride in
Salem with Chapter G. We were the only
members from OR-H this year., but we had a good time. From
what I herd on the other side of the state, there will be a lot of
members from both OR-G as well as OR-I here for the Shriners
Poker Run. I hope all of our members turn out for this run. We
need all the riders and HELP with the run.
On a sad note, Oregon lost another Chapter. While we were in
Salem I was informed that Chapter J closed. I always wanted to
get to one of there gatherings but never could.
Well it's finally starting to feel like spring, and riding season. This
Saturday will be our first meeting of the summer hours, and we
are planning a ride after the meeting, so come gassed and ready
to ride. I hope to see a good turnout for our meeting, and the ride.
Our gathering is at 8 for breakfast and meeting at 9. See you then.
Ride safe
