We would like to make your arrival as easy and stress-free as possible, as driving in a foreign country can be a daunting experience! We have prepared this guide, with detailed directions and maps, to aid you if you are arriving by rental car, taxi or bus. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to your arrival! Driving Directions from Tocumen International Airport There are two major express toll routes through/around Panama City. Both are card-controlled, so you will need to purchase a card (either from the rental car company or at the entrance to the toll highways). The Corredor Norte (North Corridor) will bring you north of the City, closer to Gamboa and avoids the downtown core. The Corredor Sur (South Corridor) passes through Panama City and brings you to the west end of the city, near the Canal, where you can access the highway to Gamboa. Driving from the airport to Gamboa takes approximately 1 hour, depending on traffic. Corredor Norte (Red Route) Corredor Sur (Blue Route) Exit the terminal and follow the highway (Avenida Domingo Diaz) toward Panama City. To access the Corredor Norte, turn right on Avenida M. Zarate after the large new Metro Mall, on your right hand side; follow signs to Brisas Del Golf and Corredor Norte. Enter the Corredor Norte, and follow west. There will be three toll stops, totaling approximately $4 (be sure to have this loaded on your card). Exit at Via Centenario, and continue on this highway until you reach Avenida Omar Torrijos H., and exit right. Watch for signs to Colon, Paraiso and Arraijan at this point. Exit the highway onto Avenida Omar Torrijos H, just before crossing the Centennial Bridge to Arraijan. Follow Avenida Omar Torrijos H toward Gamboa. You will pass by the Radisson Golf Course & Country Club, and the road will bend to the right under a small bridge. Turn left just after the bridge, at the entrance to Soberanía National Park, and follow this road to Gamboa. Exit the terminal and follow the highway toward Panama City. Soon after leaving the terminal, watch for the exit to the Corredor Sur, and exit on your right. Follow the Corredor Sur through Panama City. There will be two toll stops, totaling approximately $3 (be sure to have this loaded on your card). You will exit the Corredor Sur at its end, on Avenida Balboa. From here, follow signs to Avenida Omar Torrijos H. You will reach a large round-about near the Marcos A. Gelabert Airport (Albrook Airport). Continue north on Avenida Omar Torrijos H. You will pass by Miraflores Locks & Clayton, Pedro Miguel Locks, & the town of Paraiso. Continue straight and follow signs to Gamboa. You will pass by the Radisson Golf Course & Country Club, and the road will bend to the right under a small bridge. Turn left just after the bridge, at the entrance to Soberanía National Park, and follow this road to Gamboa. 1.800.930.3397 (toll-free from US/Canada) | +507.264.5720 (Panama)|[email protected] Arriving in Gamboa Gamboa is located at the end of the Gaillard Highway. Along the highway, you will pass by Summit Gardens, the Canopy Tower/ Plantation Road trail, and eventually come to the Gamboa Bridge. The Gamboa Bridge is a one-lane bridge controlled by a traffic light. After crossing over the bridge to the town of Gamboa, stay straight. Merge right at the fork in the road. Turn left on to Harding Avenue (second left, first stop sign). At the next intersection, turn right onto Jadwin Avenue. The Canopy B&B is the first house on the left, house 114A. Our staff will be awaiting your arrival. If arriving by taxi, most taxi drivers do not know the locations of the Bed & Breakfasts in Gamboa, and will most often assume you are going to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort. Please advise the driver you are not going to the resort, and help him with directions to the Canopy B&B. Below is a set of instructions, in Spanish, to aid a taxi driver who doesn’t know the exact location of the B&B. “Después cruzando el puente de Gamboa, sigue recto y cuando llega a la intersección donde está el árbol, sigue en la calle a la derecha. Cuando llega donde hay una señal de alto (Avenida Harding), gira a la izquierda. Sigue hasta la próxima intersección, y gira a la derecha en Avenida Jadwin. El Canopy B&B es la primera casa en su izquierda, casa 114A. The bus leaves the SACA terminal (area of the Grand Terminal, see map) at the terminal by the departure schedule below and arrives in Gamboa 45 minutes to 1 hour later. To get the bus from Panama City to Gamboa, the bus platform is located behind the main food court in the terminal. To get to the platform and waiting area, you must pass through a card-operated turnstile. If you do not already have one, a Rapipass Card ($1) can be purchased at the booth beside the turnstiles. It costs 10¢ to pass through the turnstiles, which must be pre-loaded on the card (not included in the purchase of the card). Buses often fill up fast, so it is advised to be at the waiting area at least 15-20 minutes prior to the bus departure time. The bus passes through Gamboa and carries on to behind the Gamboa Rainforest Resort, then passes through town again on its way back to the terminal in Panama City. The best place to get off the bus is at the stop in behind the Canopy Bed & Breakfast, just before arriving at the back of the resort. When the bus enters Gamboa, it will continue straight along the main road and turn through a smaller area of town called Santa Cruz. The bus carries on through Gamboa, passing a recreational sports field on your right and after a bend you will see some historic canal houses on your right. Ask the driver to stop in front of house 266 and exit the bus. You can pay the driver when you get off the bus in Gamboa, and bus fare from the terminal is 65¢. Walk up the hill and the Canopy B&B will be on your right, house 114A. Our staff will be awaiting your arrival.
