2015 Annual Report - Janus Developmental Services
Providing individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate and contribute within the community Annual Report 2015 January 1, 2015 - December 31, 2015 www.janus-inc.org A MESSAGE TO OUR Community NEW LOOK, NEW PROGRAMS, NEW EXPERIENCES!! It all started with a small re-modeling….updating our Client Breakroom. When the floors were re-done, it became obvious that the walls needed to be painted to match the new floor. Luckily we had won a free color consultation from Kim Schwamberger with Sherwin Williams. When Kim came to Janus, she was so impressed with the programs and services offered at Janus that she convinced the Carmel Sherwin Williams store to donate a portion of the paint to help us update our look. Our luck continued to hold as we welcomed volunteers from Horton, Inc. and Northview Church who assisted in painting, so that in addition to the Client Breakroom, we were able to update our Doorways Classroom, our kitchen and our hallways with fresh, inviting colors. Northview Church also generously donated funding to purchase paint for this project. An exciting new program was started in January - in a collaboration with Noblesville Schools, we initiated Project Work at Janus. Through this program, students who will be transitioning out of school, have the opportunity to come to Janus and learn how to perform work requirements in the Hidden Talents program and also at the Capabilities Café in the Judicial Center in Noblesville. The program enjoyed great success and will continue to be an ongoing opportunity for Noblesville transition students. New memorable experiences are highlighted in this report, including a special visit with Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann, and participation in the 2015 Noblesville Mayor’s Ball. Of course, as you will see in the many pictures throughout this report, we also continued to generate many smiles, through the enjoyment of a number of our traditional annual events! Through our experience of successfully operating Hamilton County Express, we continued to expand our transportation services to meet the growing needs of our community. We are proud to share that HCE ridership hit another record, delivering 50,579 one-way passenger trips in 2015. And for residents who incorporate bicycling in their lives, whether for commuting or recreational purposes, we have been able to add several bike racks to HCE buses thanks to a generous grant from the CIBA Foundation (Central Indiana Bicycling Association). Additionally, Janus Transportation was launched in September to provide transportation to Riverview Health’s numerous locations. Please enjoy our updates and feel free to contact us at any time, whether you would like to visit and see what’s going on, if you have an interest in volunteering, or if you want to see how you can play a part in our ongoing and continuing growth. Our doors are always open to you! We had a wonderful time visiting with the Lt. Governor and sharing information about Janus. THE AKTION CLUB CELEBRATES A SUCCESSFUL 2015 ART FAIR Aktion Club Members spent months creating unique works of art in preparation for the Second Annual Aktion Club Art Fair that was held on May 16. The proceeds of the 2015 Art Fair were designated by club officers to aid Noblesville High School’s special education program and the Masquerade Ball held at White River Christian Church.
