Day 2 Breakfast in hotel. Guided excursion by Jeep 4x4 of Mt. Etna that with its 3340 meters is the highest active volcano in Europe offers a stunning view of the sea from the Gulf of Catania, Taormina Bay and the Aeolian Islands. Its centre area is quite precious, with the theatre and the sumptuous palaces, and between them the outstanding Villadorata Palace with its rich floral decorations supporting the balconies. Afterwords, transfer to “Villa Bufalefi”, located in the heart of Eloro wine area, part of Modica St. John's feud since 1782. Villa Bufalefi is an old family’s manor house, where Modica St. John spent more than 4 months a year, In some of the rooms open to visit, you can revive the glories of the past, through objects and environments, moments of daily life, ancient jobs and events. The morning begins with a visit to the picturesque local fish market, winding through the alleys of Ortigia, seeing the typical Sicilian products. Meeting with Signora Fiora, who will demonstrate the preparation of two classic Sicilian dishes. After the dishes prepared will be served for lunch. In the afternoon Guided tour of Ortigia, a small island site of ancient Greek temples, a labyrinth of narrow medieval streets and flamboyant Baroque Palaces set in a turquoise sea. You can also visit the ancient Jewish quarter “Giudecca” to admire the Jewish ritual baths. Dinner on the balcony of the Palace Beneventano del Bosco, considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. The building dates from the Middle Ages, but the building you can see today dates mostly from the late 18th century, when it was largely rebuilt in the Sicilian Baroque style. Day6 After breakfast transfer to Agrigento for a guided visit of the “Valley of the Temples”, home to some of the best Greek temples in the world. Visit to the Temple of Hercules, the Temple of Juno, the Temple of Castor and Pollux, the wonderful Temple of Concord and finally the beautiful Garden of Kolymbetra. Transfer to hotel*****, a magnificent residence of the end of the 18th century. Dinner and overnight Day 7 After breakfast transfer to historic residence in Castelvetrano. Aragona Pignatelli Tagliavia Cortez were the former owners of the Tenuta, also known as La Conigliera. This noble family was amongst the most powerful figures of the Italian socio-­‐political panorama from the XIII to the XIX century.Guests can experience a tasting tour of Olio Verde. The tour includes a visit to the mill (in action during the harvest season in October and November) and commented on a video of the harvest and pressing of olives, followed by a Q&A session, tasting of different vintages of olive oil "Olio Verde" which highlights the peculiar notes of freshness, and tips for olive oil shopping. After the visit to the Oil Mill (Frantoio) and later on the olive oil tasting, a meal is served at the buffet (depending on the season, the dining room, outdoors or indoors). Vendicari a natural riserve since 1984 – where, every year, hundreds of species of birds rest in their way to the zones of reproduction. Lunch in Marzamemi, a small fishermen village. its name comes from the Marsa hamen that means bay of turtledoves. Along the coast you can admire Portopalo di Capo Passero : We are between the Isola delle Correnti and Capo Passero, both splendidly set in an unrivalled seascape, where the Sicily Channel and the Ionian Sea meet each other ina a mix of different shades of blue waters, form indigo to tourquoise. Dinner and overnight at the hotel Day 2 Breakfast and departure to Agrigento to visit of the beautiful Valley of the Temples: Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Hercules, the Temple of Hera and the Temple of Castor and Pollux. Lunch in an agritourism along the way. In the afternoon visit the Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina, recently renovated, with magnificent mosaics illustrating scenes of hunting and recreation, historical paintings and mythological episodes,it is Unesco World Heritage Site since 1997. Transfer to Modica for hotel accommodation and dinner. . Day 3 In the morning visit of Modica, built on the walls of a quarry of scenic grandeur. Do not miss the beautiful churches that have made the city another jewel of the Baroque Siciliano: St. George, St. John, St. Peter. In the afternoon we will continue to Scicli, one of the richest towns in the history of the province Iblea. After the cellar, you will be taken up to 2,000 meters altitude, where you can enjoy a splendid view of Sicily and walk on the spectacular Monti Silvestri, small volcanic cones extinct since a century. Day 3 Year 260 b.C.: Romans settle their own fleet, faced the Cartaghens in Lipari island and loose the naval combat because of their inexperience; a few months later, Romans will take the revenge in the naval combat of Milazzo. From Milazzo by hydrofoil we will move to Lipari island and discuss the 2 naval combats. Lunch in Lipari. After lunch , back to Milazzo and move to Palermo (it will take approx. 1h.1/2 driving). In Palermo Romans defeated Cartaghens 2 times: in the 254 b.C. (after this battle the consul Quintus Caecilius Metellus brought for the very first time the elephants in Rome) and 251 b.C. (commander Hasdrubal was beaten but Cartaghe conquer Agrigento). Check-­‐in in hotel in Palermo. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight. Day 4 Breakfast in hotel and check-­‐out. In the morning we will move to Erice (conquered by Romans after the naval combat of Trapani in 249 b.C.). Afterwords, and on the way to Marsala (Lylibaeum) we will visit the very small island of Mothya, that was under control of Cartaghe forces before the Roman’s victory. Dinner and overnight in Marsala area. Day 5 Early in the morning by hydrofoil from Trapani port we will reach Favignana (Egadi Islands). There, it will be possible to admire the sea where Romans fleet was totally destroyed by Cartaghens during the naval combat of Trapani in 249 b.C. In 242 b.C. Romans with a brand new fleet occupied Trapani and Marsala (Lylibaeum) and the following year the crucial naval combat of Egadi island st
determined the victory of Roman army in the 1 Punic war. Leaving Egadi island we will move towards Agrigento. Dinner and overnight in Agrigento. Day 6 A way back in time today in Agrigento and its wonderful Temple Valley, one of the sceneries of Punic war actions. In 262 b.C. Romans surround Agrigento, where Cartaghens take refuge in. This siege go on for 7 months and finally Romans won the battle in 261 b.C. . Cartaghens survivors reached the coast of Porto Empedocle and ran away on board of their ships. After a quick lunch in Agrigento, following the southern coast of Sicily we will reach the promontory of Capo Ecnomo (near the town of Licata, Hymera river) where in 256 b.C. Romans won the naval combat thank to the use of crows. Romans decided to move to face with Cartaghens directly in Africa, but after the Tunisi’s defeat they are forced to renounce and on the way back 350 ships were destroyed by a storm. Finally we will move to Syracuse. Dinner and overnight. Day 7 nd
Breakfast and check-­‐out. The whole day is dedicated to Syracuse, that was the only one relevant siege of the 2 Punic war in Sicily. Started in 214 b.C. by Roman con sul Marcello, was both a massive land battle eihter than an important naval combat. In 212 b.C. the citizens of Syracuse betrayed Cartaghens opening the northern gate of the town. At a later stage, Marcello took by force the Island of Ortigia, protected by other walls. We will visit the Castello Eurialo and the archaeological area in the morning and after lunch the island of Ortigia. Back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight. DAY 8 – SYRACUSE / DEPARTURE Breakfast and check-­‐out. According to the flight time, transfer to Catania International Airport end of services. w w w.we l l s i c i l y. co m

Day 1 Arrival in Catania, picking up the car and start to discover the city and the Cyclops Riviera Acitrezza, Acicastello, Acireale. The area is full of life day and night, in the city and along the coast to Acireale. Overnight in Catania area / Letojanni / Etna Day2 Discovering the beauties of Etna the highest volcano in Europe, with possibility to do excursions by walk, 4x4 and quad. Not to be missed is a stroll on the main street of Taormina for shopping. We do recommend an aperitif in one of the many lounge bars of the town. Return to the hotel or agritourism for the overnight. Day 3 Depart for Syracuse to visit the archeological site of Neapolis and the wonderful Ortigia, full of narrow streets, Baroque buildings and delicious seafood restaurants. In the afternoon you can take a walk in Noto or a swim in Fontane Bianche, a seaside resort not far from Syracuse, vaunting a crystal sea. Overnight in Ragusa or the surrounding area. Day 4 Do not miss a visit to Ragusa, rich in Baroque, as well as Modica, where you can taste the famous chocolate, and Scicli, pretty village full of charm. 22 Rent your car with Day 5 Departure to Agrigento to visit the Valley of the Temples, proceeding towards the area of Trapani, along the Via del Sale, along the way you can admire the sparkling salt scattered with windmills. If there is time and energy, we recommend a walk in Erice, a lovely medieval town to have a taste of the sweets of the area. Overnight in Palermo or the surroundings area. Day 6 Departure Palermo to visit the Norman Arab city rich in history and charm. In the afternoon, we suggest a stop in Mondello for a swim in the sea,an ice cream or sandwich with “panelle”. Return to the hotel or agritourism. Day 7 Depending on your flight time departure, visit Cefalu, a fishing village with a magnificent romanic cathedral or have a swim in the sea.
