Annual Gala Festival of Trees A Partnership for a Spectrum of Care presents the 38th & 2015 Autism Catalog Final2.pdf 4 11/13/15 12:49 PM Presidents’ Letter Welcome to the 2015 Festival of Trees Gala. This event is a combined effort of the Dr. Forrest Flashman Guild and the Autism Center Guild. Proceeds generated from the events are shared between the two guilds equally. The Autism Center Guild proceeds from the 2014 Festival of Trees Gala were directed toward the highest needs experienced by the Autism Center. The impact of your giving included advances in research and early intervention, innovative technology applications and supportive family resources. The Autism Center served 4,387 patients over 18,688 visits this year! C M Y CM MY CY CMY K The Dr. Forrest Flashman Guild contribute all of their proceeds to support uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s. Each year, more than 125,000 children come to Seattle Children’s in need of expert care. In 2014, Children’s provided $120.5 million in uncompensated care to families who need assistance with their medical bills – and who were able to focus on their child’s health, rather the the burden of medical bills. We hear all year long from parents who are grateful for the uncompensated care their child received. The motto of the Autism Center Guild is “volunteer-fundraise-celebrate” and in 2015 they did just that. Members helped the Autism Center by hosting an Autism Awareness Social, providing provisions to staff who perform over 100 diagnoses in just one “Blitz Week,” and practicing trick-or-treating with children on the autism spectrum before Halloween. Other members provided strategic input on the goals for the year, managed financial statements and procured items and experiences for the auction. If you’d like to become a member of the Autism Center Guild you can join tonight. We are seeking board members, too! The Festival of Trees was created by the Dr. Forrest Flashman Guild some 38 years ago. For the past 3 years they have partnered with the Autism Center Guild to create a weekend long celebration, with the Gala-Auction on Saturday and the Celebration and Boutique on Sunday. From November 21st through December 2nd these beautiful trees will be on display at the Fairmont Olympic and paired with a patient from Children’s Hospital, allowing all visitors to share the courageous stories of these children. The Flashman Guild members, with help from Autism Center Guild members, work all year long, designing and decorating the trees, creating boutique items and procuring auction items. Many thanks go to the Co-Chairwomen Julie O’Brien of the Autism Center Guild and Linda Mullin of the Dr. Forrest Flashman Guild, who have organized and designed this year’s fabulous Gala experience and After Party. Tomorrow, invite your friends and family to the Festival of Trees Celebration, shop with the kids at the Children’s Corner, enjoy the gift boutique, visit the Teddy Bear Suite, meet Santa, eat cookies, and listen to a festive choir. We’ll be posting shots from all the weekend’s events on the Autism Center Guild Facebook page. We truly appreciate your support and cannot wait to see the amazing impact that your generosity will have on the lives of children of Seattle Children’s Hospital! Lisa Iland Hilbert, President Autism Center Guild Loretta S. Story, President Dr. Forrest Flashman Guild 2015 Autism Catalog Final2.pdf 5 11/13/15 12:49 PM About the Partnership for a Spectrum of Care The Partnership for a Spectrum of Care brings together two leading guilds of Seattle Children’s: The Autism Center Guild and the Dr. Forrest L. Flashman Guild. The strategic partnership’s goal is to bring together the spectrum of care, passion, and talent from both guilds in providing support for Seattle Children’s Autism Center and Uncompensated Care. C M Y CM MY CY CMY About the Autism Center In August 2009, Seattle Children’s opened its Autism Center to provide comprehensive and timely services to autism patients. The Center is programmed to provide a full range of family-based care from early childhood through young adulthood (birth to 21 years old). The Center is able to draw on the medical research expertise of a nationally recognized children’s hospital, while also providing necessary treatment, family support and therapy options tailored to address the evolving personal needs of each patient served. K About Uncompensated Care Seattle Children’s provided $120.5 million in uncompensated care in 2014, an increase of approximately $3.5 million from 2013. The fundraising efforts of Guilds is a vital source of uncompensated care contributions, helping keep its founding promise to the community – caring for children in our region regardless of ability to pay. He also started and ran a demolition company. A work-related back injury resulting in several spinal surgeries turned Jason’s thoughts toward deeper issues. Around this time he met renowned sculptor Tom Jay, who began mentoring Jason on life and art. Tom helped Jason learn how to have humility, look at his art from a fresh perspective, and respond better to criticism and other life challenges. At one point, Jason spent five days straight in Tom’s studio, working on a sculpture during the day and sleeping on a cot at night. Tom and Jason are currently working together for the first time, putting Tom’s 50 years’ of experience into a bronze Seahawks head. Jason does his best work when in a state of compassion and love. His subjects include traditional sailing vessels of many cultures and, more recently, finely wrought metal flowers of various species.
