Friday: 2) Airfield Niederöblarn: 3 runs, 15 minutes each on a 1.5 km circuit 3) Dachstein-road: onw warm-up run and two competition runs (5.18 km) “Gröbming Evening” at the classic-tent Saturday: 4) one mountain-sprint from Moosheim to Gröbming (2.26 km) 5) Chopard Grand Prix (5 laps) “Night of the Champions” at the classic-tent T he “CHOPARD RACECAR-TROPHY” is an independent competition, that takes place on the three Ennstal-Classic days (Thursday until Saturday), on three settings in and around Gröbming – where the paddock is situated. What happened at the premiere in 2013 Airfield Niederöblarn: the participants drove three 15 minute intervals. It was extremely hot and the cars were put to their boarders. The McLaren, the Porsche 908 and the Chevron BMW reached a top speed of approximately 200 km/h on the 750m long runway. The owner of the fabulous Ferrari 121LM drove this most aggressive Ferrari of all times with impressive pep and sensitiveness – a feast for the eyes. Exactly this car was driven by Phil Hill / Maglioli at the disaster-race from Le Mans in 1955. They dropped out but another car – a Triumph TR 2 driven in the Chopard Racecar-Trophy by ALLESAUTO chief editor Enrico Falchetto – finished the race in Le Mans on the 14th place. TV-star Christian Clerici was a unique show with his Plymouth. He is a pureblood racer and infiltrated the event with his very good mood. A McLaren M12GT Coupé – anonymous driver, co-driver Dieter Eissner-Eisenstein – has been a highlight on the airfield in Niederöblarn with its power. JOHANN Kofler drove his natural finish Sunbeam from 1930 - that has never been restored - until the break linkage lost its tension. FRANZ Grossauer and Ulli Glöckner – Sunbeam Supersport 1926 – won the Epoch I thanks to their precision. Impressive in this epoch: Peter Jäger / Kurt Renner on BMW 328. IT felt like at the airfield races of the 1960s in Aspern, Klagenfurt or Innsbruck. Or at the European mountain-championship races in Trento-Bondone, Gaisberg or Roßfeld… Right before the race started the participants made smalltalk – the drivers still talked to each other at that time, they did not sit alone in front of a computer or had PR agents who told them what so say. DIETER Quester talked to Klaus Bischof – who keeps the driving Porsche-museum moving and drove a wonderful Porsche 908/03. The participants waited expectantly at the bottom of the beautiful Dachstein-toll road for the start. It was a hot summer day and the parking space at the cable car was packed. But the road owners, the mayor as well as the police and the firefighters helped to make the mountain-challenge flow smoothly. Not even the thunderstorm right before the third run has been a disturbing factor. THE Abarth 1000SP – small like a toy – belonged to father and son Jodl and had to be administered during the competition. Abarth have always been divas – and now, after decades, more than ever. DIETER Quester, the racer without expiration date drove a works BMW Chevron from 1972. He was in lead in Epoch II until the last regularity test Moosheim-Gröbming. But he lost his position due to a mistake at the Stirling Moss roundabout. His co-driver Anja Schiemann said: “I am innocent!”. Dieter was in a suicidal mood. NORBERT Schmitz-Koep took part with a fantastic Maserati 4CL monopostoracecar, which already started at the Tripolis GP in 1939.A piece of history from a time where there were no electronic devices, no carbon, no crush zone, no KERS, no DRS or HANS systems. Racing was a game of life or death. The owner personified the long extinct species of the “gentleman driver” who travels with his own mechanic, wears leather gloves and demonstrates his “voiturette” with joy and style. AND the OSCAR for courage goes to … Peter Schleifer. He drove the Stoderzinken mountain-challenge with his 800 HP CanAM Lola – most people thought it was impossible. But with outrageous discipline “Mr. CanAm” proved the opposite and drove up. Unfortunately there were problems with the oil pressure afterwards and he had to change cars and take his Cobra. ALEXANDER Deopito made no mistakes and won together with his wife Elisabeth in his spectacular Lancia 037 Rallye Evo2 from 1982 in Epoch II. Overall tenor: The Chopard Racecar-Trophy has a bright future.
