The Pupil Gazette News from Dinnington school from the students Price—Free! Issue 1 Brilliant Broomley! Year 4 went to Broomley Grange in October and everyone loved it. The children took part in climbing, adventure playground, tree climbing, archery, zip wire and crates. Some children even went in the tunnels. They were on a mission to find a light switch. It was dark and muddy and wet. It was so dark Jessica and the other children went in a puddle. It made them muddy and wet. Jessica said ‘I have had the best time ever”. The whole group would like to do this again one day. By Harvey Robson and McKenzie Cooper Year 2 went to the moon! Year 2 got a helmet and space boots and a rocket and blasted off to the moon one day! Phoebe said “I saw some stars on the way I was even driving the rocket we even got to space walk”. About the event Jack also said” we had a picnic as well we had cheese puffs and sandwiches”. When they returned to class they wrote Space poems. All of year 2 enjoyed it. Luckily it was a experiment . “I felt worried because I would have to tidy it all up, if it did explode!” said Aaron. On the 20 October in Dinnington First school hall the year 3 and 4 wowed the audience with African and samba drumming. They all took part in a musical workshop to develop skill and teamwork. Everyone loved the experience and would love to do it again. Year 3 played jembay drums in African style music with the notes base slap and tone. They sang che che koolay and put a little wow into it. Year 4 did samba. They used agogo bells, hi lo drums, shakers and serdo drums. At the end they got a amazing cheer. “We enjoyed it so much and would like to do it all again” both of the classes said about their experience. Mrs Creed and Mr Graham were very proud of the hard work the children had put in over the 6 weeks to give such a good performance. Reporter Catherine C, Emily H and Jessica w YEAR 1 WENT STARGAZING On Tuesday 11th October Year 1 went to the planetarium at the Centre for Life. They saw lots of planets. The planets were red, blue and yellow. Then they went to hear a story about the first people who went on the moon. They learnt lots of great planet facts. Holly Spreadbury said “It was really good. I liked listening to the story”. “So did I” said Hayden Shiells. Reported by Naomi Hope and Emma Foster BEST BOOK COVERS IN TOWN! Reporters Emily H charlotte G Joseph G On the 8th of November Dinnington first school had a book cover competition. The winners were, in nursery Eve Gamble and Phoebe Wallace, in Year 1 Robyn Waldron, in Year3 Thomas Spreadbury and in Year 4 Jessica Waldron. All the entrants received a pencil with a rubber for taking part. Sports Events Squash champion visits our school Year 3 had a visitor from a squash coach from Northern squash club in the school hall. At the Northern squash club they play squash and practice. It is on Thursday night and Saturday morning. Some children got chosen to go to Northern Squash club and try it out. John in year 4 said “It’s so COOL, I couldn’t do a better sport!” If you are interested in squash then you can go along to the club in Gosforth. 2 By Matthew Thompson and Hugo Fletcher Diwali Day fun for all classes Every class celebrated Diwali by making and learning about Hindu traditions. The children in nursery made barfi sweets and took them home to eat. In Reception they made diva lamps out of clay. In Year 1 they made diva candles with paper and sparkles. Painted rangoli paterns and Diwali cards were made in Year 2. Mr Graham’s Year 3 class enjoyed singing and dancing on Diwali day. Year 4 made their own rangoli patterns with chalk. Johnny from Reception said “I liked painting the lights. Diwali was fun!” Told by Anya and Joshua Gibbons Davidson Daffodils for spring Last week, Reception were planting daffodils bulbs in their garden to come up in the spring! They are very excited for when they all come up, so they told us how they planted there bulbs! First they got some seeds and a trowel they made a little hole with there trowel and placed a seed in the hole they had made. Next, they covered up the seed in the hole with the trowel and then gave it a good water. Now all they have to do is wait till spring and see if they come up!
