Sisters of Notre Dame 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. 1601 Dixie Highway, Covington, KY 41011 www.sndky.org facebook.com/sndky Dear Friends, Just over 150 years ago, Sisters of Notre Dame, expelled from Germany, arrived in the United States on the Fourth of July. They had never experienced anything like the festive celebration of independence they encountered on their arrival in New York. And we continue to celebrate this freedom each year. This summer marks the Covington Sisters of Notre Dame’s 93rd Fourth of July Festival. By my calculation, the festival must have begun just before we became a province in 1924. Each year on this holiday we gather with family and friends to celebrate the blessings that are ours in this land of freedom, while participating in an event that helps fund the SND mission at home and abroad. Besides supporting our retired sisters, proceeds from the 2015 event will benefit the SND Uganda and East Africa missions and the SND urban education ministres. We thank you for joining with us in making God’s goodness felt wherever we minister. Together we can make a significant difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters who are in need. May you and your family and friends know God’s goodness and love. Blessings, Sr. Mary Ethel Parrott, SND 1 Dear Family and Friends, Welcome to our 93rd celebration of July 4th – Notre Dame style. We are so happy that you have chosen to come today. We consider you, our family and friends, our faithful supporters and partners in doing the mission of Jesus. We appreciate the many ways you continue to help us fund-raise and friend-raise. This year’s event benefits our SND Uganda and East African missions, the SND urban education ministries, and our SND retirement needs. We are grateful to you for spending this day with us. As you leave today, we hope that you enjoyed yourself and were lucky in some way. We hope that old friendships were renewed, new friends made, and memories created. Thank you for sharing God’s goodness with us. Together may we continue to spread God’s goodness in our corner of the world. W e a re b lessed to ha ve yo u a s a pa rt n er in m iss io n ! T h a n k Yo u We are 11 days away from the 20th anniversary of the Covington and California SNDs’ arrival in Buseesa, Uganda. Since then they, along with SNDs from the U.S. and Coesfeld (Germany) provinces, have been missioned to serve in Uganda, providing quality Catholic education and vocational opportunities to the students and sisters in both Buseesa and Mpala, Uganda. Today, the mission in Uganda has grown to serve over 600 students annually at one primary school, two nursery schools, one secondary school, one subsistence farm, and one house of studies and formation. God is good! snd urban education ministries snd retirement needs Since 1874, the Sisters of Notre Dame have been missioned to promote Catholic education, especially for women and children in urban and mission schools. Today the SNDs educate students in the urban areas of Northern Kentucky, ensuring that these students meet their academic potential and break the cycle of poverty. When a Sister of Notre Dame retires, she transitions from years of active and varied ministry assignments to the ministry of prayer. This transition does not happen overnight, however, as many sisters continue to serve the local and the SND community even after formally retiring. You will find Sisters of Notre Dame serving as principals, administrators, teachers, and tutors at the following urban education ministries: • Holy Cross High School • Holy Trinity School • Notre Dame Urban Education Center • Prince of Peace School • St. Augustine School The retirement fund provides for the basic living and health care expenses our sisters encounter, as well as any necessary disability outfitting and medical equipment. The contributions toward the community's retirement needs have allowed our sisters to serve others with generosity over the years. We are so grateful! 5 6 Proud to support the Sisters of Notre Dame and honor the men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States Semper Fi God Bless America Sgt. Maj.
