DISCOVER GOD ISSUE NO. 46 ALTO FRIO NEWS ALTO FRIO BAPTIST CAMP/JANUARY 2015/VOL. 1 Summer Camp ••• Summer camp is a great time for young people to get away from their regular settings and refocus on things that get overlooked in day-to-day life. Camp is a place for fun, games, and friends, but it also offers a unique opportunity to discover God, whether for the first time or for the 70th time. This is why we love camp. COMING THIS SUMMER Alto Frio is the home of six lifechanging camps: Area Children's Camp, Area Youth Camp, Emmanuel Camp, Master's Camp, GA/Ateen Camp, and RA Camp. Each of these camps offer unique features, stellar speakers, impactful worship, and access to Alto Frio’s exciting variety of activities. Are you looking for something for a wider age range? RA/ GA camps may be for you! Discipleship? Masters Camp! Evangelism? Area or Emmanuel camps! No matter what you’re looking for in a summer camp, we can help you find something that’s right for you! Moving in a New Direction ••• Things have been changing at Alto Frio! After Tim Hughes stepped in as the new administrator in April, he brought in Chris Jurica as the new Director of Guest Relations. Having spent 2 summers on Alto Frio’s staff, as well as a year-long internship right after college, Chris knew his way around the camp and made for a seamless fit into the fulltime staff. Once the summer was over, we began the long process of digging into the camp’s history and functions, and moving it forward in efforts to expand the ministry. SUMMER 2014: A LOOK BACK “Alto Frio has consistently been a place blessed by the presence of the Holy Spirit. From my days as an RA, through my teenage years, my year of service on the summer staff, and now as a director of Area Youth Camp. Alto Frio never ceases to offer the best opportunity for the gospel to be heard, spread, and shown on its grounds and through the staff. I love Alto Frio!” -Matthew Mayberry, Area Youth Camp continued on page 2 Attendance 5775 Professions of Faith 270 Rededicated 322 Committed to Ministry 107 Upcoming Camps & Retreats ••• 2015 SUMMER CAMPS Children’s Camp June 15-18 Texas Baptist Family Camp June 18-21 Area Youth Camp July 5-10 Master’s Camp July 13-17 Emmanuel Camp July 20-24 RA/GA Camp July 27-31 2015 RETREATS Winter Youth Retreat January 16-18 New Direction, cot’d. from page 1 One of our first moves was to update the camp logo. Set in the hills and down the Frio river, our name is proudly displayed in a modern and eye-catching graphic that features a strategically placed cross, always reminding us of what our true purpose really is. working on getting new siding and paint on buildings to refresh the look of the camp grounds. We have converted the summer camp director’s office into a WiFi, coffee and snack lounge during the retreat season. Volunteers have replaced the small pavilions. After the logo was in place, we set about updating all of our literature and promotional materials, including brochures, presentation elements, and a brand new website. Finally, we have been working hard on bringing about some much-needed improvements to our summer staff program, making it more ministry focused. This summer, we will be hiring on more staff and giving them breaks during the day as they work on a rotating basis with one another. We are also putting together a discipleship program for them, so that we can pour into them as they pour into the camp. Along with the new look, we also revised the staff job titles and descriptions. One of our maintenance guys, Keith Mosley, was promoted to Maintenance Director. Chris’ wife, Carly, was brought on to oversee concessions, and to assist with media and promotional updates. Beyond that, we are continuing to make more improvements to the facilities around the camp, such as Women’s Retreat February 6-8 Pre Easter Retreat April 2-4 Senior Adults Retreat April 13-16 We are very excited to see these changes taking place already, and we are thrilled to see what God has in store for the future of Alto Frio.
