Weigand Virgil R. Weigand, 80, longtime resident of Flagstaff, passed away on June 29, 2015, following a long-term illness. He was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota on September 18, 1934. Virgil lived on three different farms in Minnesota before moving to Coolidge, AZ in 1945 with his mother and stepfather. They later settled in Superior, AZ in 1948, where he met his wife, Annette J. Weigand (Tomerlin) and started his career with Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph. Virgil and Annette were married in 1954 and moved to Flagstaff AZ in 1956, where he resided at the time of his passing. Virgil was passionate about his long career as a Teletype On behalf of the entire Bryant family, we would like to extend our gratitude and say thank you to the Superior School Board, Rose’s Flowers, Queen Valley Golf Course and all the friends and extended family for your prayers, cards and thoughts through our time of sorrow. Anyone that knew Virgil knows he loved food and would insistently feed anyone, oftentimes a grilled steak or homemade ice cream at family cookouts. During his wife’s career as a first grade teacher, he would frequently make chocolate milkshakes for students at Kinsey Elementary School; a memory past students share with the family. He also dearly loved animals and enjoyed bird watching. Bravo for misconduct while in office. Judge Bravo is presently the justice of the peace for the Superior-Kearny Justice Court in Pinal County, and also serves as the magistrate for the Town of Hayden. In 2012, a litigant who had appeared in Judge Bravo’s court on two prior cases acquired a mining claim in his name and Judge Bravo’s name. Although he initially placed Judge Bravo’s name on the mining claim without the judge’s knowledge, he later disclosed this interest to Judge Bravo. In 2012 and 2013, this litigant appeared before Judge Bravo as a plaintiff in two separate protective order proceedings. Judge Bravo did not disclose his relationship or joint property ownership with this litigant to the other party in the protective order proceedings. The court’s decision was based on a stipulated resolution between disciplinary counsel and the judge, in which the judge did not contest that his conduct, as described in the stipulated resolution, violated Rules 1.2, 2.4(C), 2.9(A), 2.11(A), 2.11(B), 3.13(A), 3.13(C), and 3.15 of the Arizona Code of Judicial Conduct. Additionally, the judge’s actions constituted conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice that brings the judicial office into disrepute, a violation of Article 6.1, Section 4, of the Arizona Constitution. Rule 1.2 requires a judge to “act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the independence, integrity, and impartiality of the judiciary,” and to “avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety.” Rule 2.4(C) provides that “a judge shall not convey or permit others to convey the impression that any person or organization is in a position to influence the judge.” Rule 2.9(A) requires that a judge “shall not initiate, permit, or consider ex parte communications, or consider other communications made to the judge outside the presence of the parties or their lawyers, concerning a pending or impending matter.” Rule 2.11(A) provides that a judge “shall disqualify himself or herself in any proceeding in which the judge’s impartiality might be questioned.” Rule 2.11(B) requires a judge to “keep reasonably informed Pinal County Sheriff’s Report The Pinal County Sheriff’s Report is taken from the daily logs, based on the information provided by deputies. July 8, 2015 www.copperarea.com Superior Sun | 7 Superior new ‘Softballtown’ after another Championship By Andrew Luberda Superior Sun After watching Superior High School win the Division IV State Championship earlier this year, the Superior Little League Senior Softball team followed with a championship of its own, winning the Arizona District 4 All-Star Tournament last Friday night. Superior defeated Maricopa 5 – 4 in the championship game. With two championships and a chance for a third in less than two months, perhaps Superior should be known as Softballtown. If cities like Detroit and Green Bay can be known as Hockeytown and Titletown, respectively, after a historic and successful runs by the Red Wings and Packers, then certainly Superior is worthy of its own nickname. The new District 4 champions now advance to the Senior Softball Arizona State All-Star Tournament, which is scheduled to begin July 13 in Maricopa at the Copper Sky Recreation Center. For more information in addition to complete results and brackets visit the Superior Little League Facebook page and www.eteamz.com/azstatell. Season ends for pair of Superior Little League All-Star Teams By Andrew Luberda Superior Sun The Superior 9/10 and 11/12 All-Star teams saw their season end after both teams lost in their respective Arizona District 4 All-Star Tournament last Thursday night. The 9/10 All-Stars played in Coolidge, where Casa Grande defeated Maricopa on Monday night to advance to the 9/10 Arizona State All-Star Tournament in Kingman beginning July 14. The 11/12 All-Stars were the host team in the 11/12 Arizona District 4 All-Star Tournament. San Manuel’s All-Stars battled Casa Grande for the District 4 Championship on July 7 for a chance to advance to the 11/12 Arizona All-Star Tournament in Claypool beginning July 16.
