AM I GOOD ENOUGH TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WISCONSIN BAND PROGRAM?
Whatever your performance level . . . you can find an ensemble to par6cipate. The Band Department offers groups designed not only for every ability, but also for every musical interest. If you have par6cipated in a band in high school, you can be assured of an opportunity in one of the Wisconsin Bands. Music ensembles are a mixture of majors and non-‐majors. In the Marching Band, almost every academic department and class level on campus is represented! An unusually high number of students in the Marching Band are from the College of Engineering (approximately 40%).
HOW DO I ENROLL IN A BAND, AND KNOW WHICH BAND TO CHOOSE?
Be certain your academic advisor includes the band course number in your class schedule (see the “Course Lis6ngs and Audi6on Requirements” page in this brochure). Band may be included in your class schedule during the SOAR program or during fall registra6on. Should you encounter any difficul6es enrolling, please contact the Band Office (4561 Humani6es), which is open from 8:30a -‐ 4:30p weekdays.

Your academic standing will probably improve. Marching Band rehearsals are planned at a 6me of day that will not usually conflict with heavy class schedules and prime study 6me. Moreover, the high grade that is normally assigned to band par6cipants is a big plus since it is computed in the Grade Point Average. Scheduling conflicts may occasionally occur, but most can be resolved by conferring with the director or conductor.
WHAT IS THE WEEKLY TIME COMMITMENT?
Rehearsal 6mes for each ensemble are listed on the “Course Lis6ngs and Audi6on Requirements” page. During the regular school year there are no extra rehearsals for the Marching Band. During the spring semester the Varsity Band performs omen at athle6c and other events; however, most of the performances are on a volunteer basis.
