October 2 015 - Nashville Artist Guild
1 N E W S L E T T E R www.nashvilleartistguild.org October 2 015 FR OM our P R ES I DE N T Dear N.A.G. Members & Artist Friends, Greetings all! I have had a great art week. I started and completed two paintings, and started two others! I think it helped that I was on Hilton Head Island, a complete change of pace and scenery. I am trying to figure out how I can do this at home! If we could only learn to block out all the “stuff” in our lives and channel into positive unencumbered energy, our art work would no doubt flourish! I am not sure anything else would get accomplished, but we could be more productive artists. I know it is all about balance, but that is easier said than done for me. After all we have priorities in our lives, and survival is usually at the top of the list. I will continue to work on my time management. Let’s all keep our art passion toward the top of our things to do! 35 65 The opening reception for + ~ One Hundred Years of Art in Nashville, celebrating our 65th anniversary and Chromatics 35th year, was a great success! If you were not able to attend, please go by Chromatics during their regular business hours (9am-5pm MonThurs.) and see this wonderful, diverse Guild Exhibit and Sale. At our first Guild meeting in September, Rebecca Berrios from Metro Arts Commission was our speaker. Thanks to Rita and Jamie for the interesting program choice, Rebecca was both informative and interesting in discussing Metro’s participation in the arts in the Nashville area. We garnered information and possibilities for Guild involvement for the future. Please click on NowPlayinginNashville.com and register as an artist, if you haven’t already. This site calendar is also an excellent way to promote our future exhibits. Hope to see you all on Sunday, October 11th, for our Guild meeting. Remember we are keeping attendance in conjunction with our member requirements! SAVE the DATE EXH I B I T S Southern Charm in Williamson County The following from chair Vinci Kolodziejski: Just concluded, this exhibit at Williamson County Archives included 16 NAG artists, showing 30 works of art. The themed, contemporary artwork provided a welcome counterpoint to the rest of the museum and its artifacts. The show was part of the first Fri Art Crawls in July, Aug and Sept. Most Crawl visitors were pleasantly surprised by Guild paintings, the spacious building, and the museum, if the place were one of Franklin’s “best kept secrets.” According to the director, NAG shows were also well received by daytime visitors. Every other Sat, Viva! Nash Vegas musicians broadcast their radio show from the Archives. Many local residents follow the group and attend these performances. The facility is publicly owned, with free admission and generous hours of operation (8:00am - 4:30pm Mon – Fri), in addition to the Art Crawls. The Archives began showcasing contemporary art with our “Divided Loyalties” exhibit in April 2015. Their director, Aimee Sanders, purchased sturdy, upright grids on which to display the artwork. A special thank you to our artists who helped with the hanging and brought refreshments for both shows. And thanks to our president Jan Batts who came to all of the Friday Crawls. Let’s keep participating in exhibitions so the Nashville Artist Guild is synonymous with fine artwork. 3 35+65 ... Still celebrating NAG’s 65 th anniversary! Vinci Kolodziejski was raised in Vandergrift, PA and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Mathematics. She moved to Tennessee when her husband was transferred to Nashville. She always loved art as a child and in Tennessee pursued a Fine Arts Degree and a Masters in Education. She served as a Visual Arts Specialist in Metro Nashville Schools and later was an adjunct professor in Art Education at Lipscomb University. Today, Vinci is a water media artist who creates because she is inspired by personal observations of the beauty and textures of plants, flowers from her garden, and landscapes from travels. Her goal is to create paintings with a serenity of place, a transcending spirituality, and a joyful response. To accomplish this, Vinci uses sparkling, transparent light filled color in her work. Her still life painting may include her collected handmade tablecloths and interesting fabrics in combination with live plants or a client’s special treasures. Her favorite still life often includes vases filled with flowers because she likes the crispness of stems in water. She is drawn to windows as a way to combine still life and landscape in one composition. Of her favorite colors, the greens bring life to her work and the blues found in the background and shadows create a feeling of the presence of sunlight. Sunlight and shadows help infuse her paintings with their own spiritual essence. She is a member of Monthaven Art Society, Nashville Artist Guild, Tennessee Watercolor Society, the National Art Education Association and the Tennessee Art Education Association. Her work has received awards and is included in both private and corporate collections. 615-550-4613 [email protected] 7 REMINDERS A.
