BRUNTSFIELD LINKS
This area was originally wooded moorland, where
Scottish nobles would hunt for deer. Then, for over
two hundred years it was a busy stone quarry until
in 1827 the Edinburgh Improvement Act preserved
the 35 acres as parkland.
Bruntsfield Links has the prestige of being the
oldest short holed golf course in the world, the
game being recorded as being played here since
the 15th Century.
Although it is not proven, the links could be the
very first place that golf was ever played!

The course is still in use and is one of Scotland’s few
public courses where golfers can enjoy a free game
from April to September.
Joined to the Meadows to the north east, the Links
is surrounded by stunning panoramic views of
Edinburgh Castle, Salisbury Crags and Arthur’s Seat.
The expanse of greenery is like a magnet to sunbathers in the summer months, although the area
is widely used throughout the year by everyone to
sit, relax, walk, cycle, jog and play golf, fly kites
and build snowmen in the winter.

The links is a popular place for people to gather
for a fantastic view of the Festival and New Year
firework displays launched from the Castle.
Mostly though, the links provides the perfect place
to stop and unwind.
There are well kept public toilets, phone booths
and even a coffee kiosk at hand, but don’t forget
that you’re just a minute away from everything that
Bruntsfield has to offer!

The Bruntsfield Traders Association was established with the aims of
promoting, enhancing and supporting Bruntsfield as an independent
area of Edinburgh for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors.
Association members work together to ensure that Bruntsfield continues
to be acknowledged as one of Edinburgh’s most desirable postcodes.
With its glorious hanging baskets throughout the summer months,
winter baskets and twinkling Christmas Trees adorning all members’
premises during the festive season, the Association strives to ensure that
a visit to Bruntsfield is always a colourful and memorable one.
Join us for our Christmas night held on the first Wednesday every
December, where you can enjoy late night shopping and marvel at our
street entertainers. Santa will be in attendance as he shall every weekend
in December. Visit him in his grotto on Bruntsfield Links.
Association members are organising a monthly Bruntsfield Farmers
Market where all the great local businesses selling a wonderful array of
foods can showcase their produce.
Our website was launched in 2008 for visitors, locals and Association
members. It provides news, information, photos and maps, as well as a

MAPS & INFORMATION
PARKING
There are plenty of parking places in Bruntsfield.
Pay and Display tickets cost 70p per hour, depending on
location. Check at the machines for rates and maximum
stays. Visitors can park in both public and shared bays
(shared bays can be used by both permit holders and
pay and display motorists). There are many free parking
places on Saturdays!
BUSES
Bruntsfield Place is on a busy bus route regularly taking
passengers to and from Edinburgh’s town centre.

TRAINS
Edinburgh has two main train stations Edinburgh Waverley at the East End of Princes Street and
Haymarket Station in Edinburgh’s West End.
Haymarket is the nearest station to Bruntsfield which is
just a 15min walk or an even shorter taxi ride away.
AIRPORT
Edinburgh Airport is located 8 miles outside the city.
The entrance is between the Gogar and Newbridge
roundabouts, accessed via the A8 Glasgow Road and is
close to the M8 and M9 Motorways.
There is a frequent air bus service to and from the city.
