From the President
Pres. Ramy Garcia IV
Fellow Pasig Rotarians:
Today is Election Day! It is our protocol that during Election Day
we elect the Officers and Board members in for the Rotary Year
2015-16.
I'm sure that PE Ner already have his line-up of officers and board
members? Let us all Exercise our right to vote!
During Election Day, we also elect a PN who will serve during RY
2016-2017. We have chosen Rtn. Noel Go for this position who
has formally declined for now due to personal problems.
We all support the decision of Rtn Noel. He has promised to stay
with the club and continue to support our club projects when he
can.
To Rtn. Noel, RC PASIG is always here for you.
With that, we will also be electing a new PN and a PND to follow
the RI 3-year program.
If you ask me, I want to elect a PNDD so that he can get involve
with the incoming administration and get used to the life of being a
club president.
Let us allow Comelec Chairman to come up with a clean and
honest election.
Let us vote wisely and continue to "LIGHT UP ROTARY"

PP Benny P. De Guzman
The club assembly last week did not push through
as unexpectedly, PP Rhett was able to bring our
member, the beleaguered Secretary of Health, Ike
T. Ona, to give us a blow-by-blow account of the information that
in communications circles, they call “nakuryente”, when Pnoy’s
perceptions about the seemingly many faults of Sec. Ona were
proven to be misinformation.
Now, the President is prolonging the agony, an editorial calls, the
slow crucifixion of Sec. Ona. Columnist Winnie Monsod was all
rah-rah for Ona, even if she claims she was rooting for the former
Sec. of Health Espie Cabral. But, being a good investigative
columnist, Winnie cleared our Ike of any malfeasance in running
his department. Why Pnoy has yet to extend the forced a la
suspension leave? Politics is very hard to interpret, and, our Ike
was caught in this web. Abangan?
Our other political figure was seen in a very nice presentation of
improving creative ads of the country and getting more nation
building ideas. Cong. Roman Romulo was guest in a long program
acknowledging quality messages in creative ads.
Dapat masuspend ang acting secretary of health for more palpaks
trying to be all over kahit hindi nya turf. More so, the Ombudsman
is keeping track of her. Pa-leave din kaya ni Pnoy? Abangan also.
We welcome to our fold new Rotarian Albert Mendiola. Why a
good businessman, a good golfer, a good associations man, is
joining Rotary too late in life? The way Albert blended, akala mo
matagal ng member, pati sa open forum, sa joke sessions and the
recent fellowship he was all over. Baka magka All Over Fatigue
ka Albert.

We are winding up our activities in the rush hours of December.
Typhoon Ruby was set to disrupt all meaningful activities BUT it
may be also a wake-up call to check on our community involvements.
PP Proning, still not allowing anybody to visit him, celebrated his
milestone, his 80th birthday, last Monday. I bought a bottle of
champagne and a heat pad for pains and told my driver to deliver it to
his house in the afternoon. Luckily, on our way to dinner I asked him
if he delivered it to the Pina house of Atty. Ona. My driver said, he
gave it to the driver of Sec. Ona in Ike’s house. Akala niya basta
Ona. Ike na. I was able to ask the other driver to retrieve it baka,
nilagay automatically sa X-mas tree ni Ike. The minor mistake was
resolved late na. Hopefully, Proning would allow us to visit.
Lucky for us in Metro Manila that super typhoon Ruby did not do any
harm to all of us. But would you believe that in any towns and cities
of Rizal, there were yet evacuation centers to the beam. This was up
to the time of the exit of Ruby. Good preparation is truly a good step
to minimize effects of these calamities.
I hope those that PE Ner would tap to join his team for our club’s
governing group would agree. It is better to agree rather than be
elected and not serve the assigned tasks.
May we have better attendance for the Christmas lunch our perennial
host Chony would be hosting. It would also be a nicer fellowship if
our spouses would join. Ang hindi magdala ng spouse, under?

Rotary Honors Canadian Prime Minister
for Leadership in the Fight
to Eradicate Polio
TORONTO, Canada (October 18, 2014) — Rotary International
recognized Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Saturday, 18 October,
with the organization’s Polio Eradication Champion Award for his
efforts to support a polio-free world.
With a commitment of more than US$ 580 million to polio
eradication since 1988, Canada has been a longstanding partner with
Rotary International in the effort to eradicate polio and a major leader
among a core group of strong donor nations.
Throughout his tenure, Prime Minister Harper has maintained a strong
focus on global polio eradication, particularly in Afghanistan, where
polio eradication efforts have been a signature project for Canada, and
also in Nigeria. Polio eradication was featured in the 2010 G8 Summit
in Muskoka, and Prime Minister Harper reaffirmed Canada’s
commitment during the Commonwealth Heads of Government
meeting in 2011. Canada also significantly increased its commitment
to polio eradication in 2013 when a five year commitment to provide
C$250 million to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative was
announced at the Global Vaccine Summit. Prime Minister Harper
continues to support global polio eradication within the context of the
Maternal Newborn and Child Health Initiative launched in May of
this year. Immunization is a top priority of the Initiative.
“Thanks in great part to the support of Prime Minister Harper and the
Government of Canada, the world is on the verge of defeating polio
once and for all.” said Wilf Wilkinson, Past President of Rotary
International. “Polio eradication efforts are serving as a gateway to

reach children with other essential immunizations and health services,
thereby serving as an effective bridge for Canada’s broader Maternal
and Child Health objectives.”
Rotary established the Polio Eradication Champion Award in 1995 to
honor heads of state, health agency leaders and others who have made
significant contributions to the global eradication of polio. Past
recipients include Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany; Britain’s
Prime Minister, David Cameron; Ireland’s Prime Minister, Enda
Kenny; President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria; and UN SecretaryGeneral Ban Ki-moon. Prime Minister Harper is the second Canadian
leader to receive this recognition. Prime Minister Jean Chrétien was
honoured by Rotary in 1999.
When Rotary launched its PolioPlus program in 1985, polio struck
more than 1,000 children around the world every day. Just 222 cases
have been confirmed in 2014 as of 8 October – primarily in the
countries where polio has never been stopped: Nigeria, Pakistan, and
Afghanistan.
Rotary made polio eradication its top philanthropic goal in 1985. As
the volunteer arm of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Rotary
has contributed more than US$1.3 billion and countless hours of
volunteer service to ending polio. This includes more than 26 million
contributed by the more than 25,000 members of Rotary clubs in
Canada. To date, more than 2.5 billion children have been immunized
against the paralyzing and sometimes deadly poliovirus.
The Global Polio Eradication Initiative includes the World Health
Organization, Rotary International, the U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the
United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

Understanding the
RC Pasig Foundation
PP Celso Ylagan II
Today, being the second Thursday of December,
we shall be electing nine (9) RC Pasig Rotarians
who will compose the Board of Trustees of The Rotary Club of
Pasig Foundation for the year 2015-2016. The incumbent
president of the Club will automatically be an ex officio member
of the Board. The newly elected members of the Board of Trustees
will assume office on July 1, 2015.
The incumbent Chairman of the Foundation shall ask for
nominations either from a nominating committee duly organized
by the Board of Trustees, or directly from the floor from any
member of the Club. Election may be by ballot voting or viva
voce vote.
The first three (3) Trustees who shall get the highest number of
votes will serve for a term of 3 years. The next three (3) Trustees
with the next largest number of votes will serve for a term of 2
years, while the remaining three (3) Trustees will serve for a term
of one (1) year until their successors are duly elected and qualified.
Any tie or ties shall be resolved in a manner to be determined by a
majority of the membership present.
Immediately after their election, the newly elected members of the
Board shall hold an organizational meeting for the purpose of
electing, among themselves, the officers of the Foundation,
namely: a Chairman; one or more Vice Chairman; a Treasurer; a
Secretary and such other officer or officers as the Board may deem
necessary.
