Something New Booklet_5
Here I am in bankruptcy land
Starting out with zero as a humble man
No more waving magical wands
Or putting all my savings in some short term fantasy bonds
I want to let love grow with you
To let these lotus petals unfold with you
But if this blossoming flower takes more than an hour or two
I don’t know what to do
The next time lovers meet I’m gonna be able
To juice my battery without her jumper cables!
My hands are tied, and I’m envying Houdini
Yet I am the one who is holding back the fire
Motion denied, and only love can free me
Yet I’ve never given love the time it takes to grow
Next time, won’t be overnight success time
Followed by manic depressed time
That story’s getting too old
8. Next Time
Come with me I’ll take you on a tour
Through my old photo album of romantic lore
Dusty prints like rare vintage wine
Shot in black and white cause that was all I had at the time
There I am, my heart in my hand
Hanging out in Never-Never Land
Waiting on a princess’s kiss
To turn her Peter Pan into a man of power and bliss
Next time, won’t be instant sex time
I’ll let the microwave rest time
I’m gonna cook it up slow
Next time, won’t be shoot ‘em up Tex time
The fastest gun in the west time
Is now for gun control
Next time, I won’t be bouncing my checks time
Cause I’m gonna invest time
In letting love grow... I’m gonna let love grow
I want this flame to burn for you
So let love’s courtroom be adjourned for you
But if I rest my case in my embrace of you
Will the love stay?
Someone show me the way
I want to make love last
My hands are tied, and I’m envying Houdini
Yet I am the one who is holding back the fire
Motion denied, and only love can free me
Yet I’ve never given love the time it takes to grow
I prayed the next time lovers meet I’ll be playing percussion
To keep the ground close to my feet
To follow my rhythm without rushing
I want to make love last with you
I’ve gotten so dizzy going too fast, it’s true
But if taking our time means keeping my hands off you
I don’t know what to do
I want to make love, make love last with you
I’ve gotten so dizzy going too fast, it’s true
But if taking our time means keeping my hands off you
God give me strength, to stay at heart’s length
I want to make love last
The airport inspector says “How are ya, Scott?”
He knows me by name, I guess he’s seen me a lot
I place my carry-ons on through the machine
And carry on about the space in between
12. On The Same Page
How do I love thee?
Let me county thy ways
How do you love me?
We both have similar things to say…
You love how I get you deep in my bones
I love how you sing me a chorus of moans
It feels like we’re writing the very same poem
It’s nice to be on the same page
Chorus
I love how you take me and give me a squeeze
You love how I make you weak in your knees
We’re both so infected, ah but what a disease
It’s nice to be on the same page
What do we want to make of this
Now that the gift is in our hands?
A Creator and Creatress brought together by love’s plan
Where do we want this dream to go
Now that we know nothing’s denied?
We’ll take it light and deep and slow
And be traveling companions for the ride
Traveling companions for the ride
(Repeat Chorus)
9. I Want To Make Love Last
11. The Space In Between
Venus in my sky appeared
And heated up my atmosphere
A heavenly body drawing near
So good to see you
So great to feel you!
Our challenges will make us strong
And bring some grounding to our song
But love is what we’re standing on
Above and below us, love will grow us
The next time lovers meet I’m gonna be able
To juice my battery without her jumper cables!

We’ve just begun connecting hearts
And it’s already off the charts
The journey of a lifetime starts
With trusting, trembling steps
We’ll get exactly what we need
To grow this little acorn seed
Into a sturdy giving tree
Rooted in the earth
There I go, the star of my show
Sprouting like a fountain everything I think I know
Pouring my charms to the top of her glass
It goes down sweet but it goes down much too fast
Whoa me, there’s soul mate number three
That golden hair surprise sure brought me to my knees
When she finally flittered away
She left me with my hands in a pretty good position to pray
10. Traveling Companions For The Ride
The future is not ours to see
But this moment holds eternity
Let’s penetrate the mystery
As traveling companions for the ride
On my wish list every Christmas I’ve been asking for you
Now my wish is lots of kisses, so pucker up for a lifetime or two!
Barnaby Finch
You are the greatest gal of my dreams
But what’s up with the five hundred miles in between
I’m in San Diego, and you live way up north
With Southwest Airlines shuttling us back and forth
We’re checking out each other, inspecting everything
All our baggage has to be x-rayed and scanned
I wish that we could be all through security
Though I love it when you strip search me for contraband
When we met I told you I didn’t do long distance love
And you asked if there might be some wiggle room
But how could I say no to your luminescent glow
And the promise of some wiggle time with you
We’re both frequent fliers and I love the free flights
But I’d rather be earning my points late at night
Easing down your runway, approaching take off speed
Making up for the space in between
Making up for the space in between
Commuting for romance, it gets on my nerves
When I’d rather be traveling your delicate curves
We’re close for a weekend and then come sad goodbyes
This love is brought to you by AOL and MCI
You love how I lift you out of your blues
My love you inspire my songs like a muse
What we’re creating is hot front-page news
It’s nice to be on the same page
What a caper read the papers, two hearts are stolen out west
Making headlines with our bedtimes,
The suspects were last seen getting undressed!
I love how you open and give me your trust
You love how I tease you when you’re serious
We’re so deeply in love and in lust
It’s nice to be on the same page
I love how you’re gorgeous; you could have your pick
You love how I beat them off with a stick
Yet we choose each other to love and to lick
It’s nice to be on the same page
It’s nice to be on the same page
It’s nice to be on the same page

y love affair with jazz started a
long time ago. In high school my
album collection included Michael
Franks, Steely Dan, Al Jareau, and other
contemporary jazz vocalists. I remember
listening to Michael Franks, his playful, witty,
sexy lyrics and the way he sings like he is
floating on a cloud, and thinking that I would
like to write and sing like that someday. Later,
when Natalie Cole and Diana Krall began
breathing new life into old classics, my love
for the music motivated me to start taking
jazz guitar lessons. I learned songs by Antonio
Carlos Jobim, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter,
George and Ira Gershwin, Billie Holiday, etc.
In particular, I had a passion for learning any
song covered by Diana Krall.
Without realizing it, I was building a jazz
vocabulary of chords and consciousness.
After a year of lessons, I began writing songs
in my new vocabulary, and before I knew it, I
had enough material for a CD.
Writing and singing jazz tunes makes me
very happy. This CD is a dream come true!
A big thank you to Jay Myerson for the
excellent and fun guitar lessons; Peter
Sprague and all the musicians, for their
impeccable work; and Venus for inspiring the
love songs.
This is my ninth CD. Please don’t let me
stop making music. Get on my case if you
don’t hear from me for a while.
May you have as much fun listening as I
had making it.
1. Something New

I trust it and I fear it… but trembling or not I will go there
Where I come from is not where I am going
Deep inside I’m knowing I’m here for something new

You and I are pioneers, mapping out the new frontier
There’s a place beyond our fears, that is where we’re going

I started out so alive and free; I knew that my life belonged to me
And all of my dreams were truly possible, life’s a miracle
Then, somehow I lost my lucky charms,
Moved to a not-so funny farm
Joined the insanity of play it safe, know your place
That’s when the music called, and I just had to give my all
I came up against my walls, but I did break on through
High School, all that I knew for sure, was how to feel insecure
And how to hide it so that no one knew, I was cool
College, I didn’t have a clue, what future I should pursue
I majored in English cause I liked to write, into the night
When you’ve been hiding behind the rules
I will throw you in the pool
Inviting you to be a fool
Cause life’s a playground, not a school
Childlike, but not childish
Playful, but not powerless,
Flying free and limitless, freedom child
That’s when the music called, and I just had to give my all
I started to have a ball, when I got out of my way
4. A Little Levity
The finest moments of any day are when I step out of my own way
And let the music flow through me
Playing my part in the symphony
Play me as I am; use my voice and hands, play me
The finest moments of any day are when I’m an instrument at play
Play me like a hollow reed
Let your music come through me
Play me as I am; use my voice and hands, play me
The finest moments of any day are when I step out of my own way
And let the music flow through me
Playing my part in the symphony
Play me as I am; use my voice and hands, play me
Play me! Play me! Play me!
3. Freedom Child
Freedom child, your music can be trusted
Freedom child, there’s a symphony at play
Freedom child, the adult just got busted
And a child shall lead the way…
A little levity when you’re feeling down
A little levity makes your joy abound
Your heart was never meant to touch the ground
So come on and discover your wings
A little levity that’s how angels fly
A little levity is gonna get you high
Blow all your worries a big kiss goodbye
A little levity makes gravity fun
There is a remedy for any ill
It’s over the counter and it’s not in a pill
When you’re all hot and bothered it will get you to chill
With no side effects at all
I took a swing at relationships, struck out with twenty-seven chicks
I went for a home run and the game would end, they’d say,
“Let’s be friends”
So I took me some time to be alone, seeking to come into my own
I wrote a few songs to help me love myself, for my mental health
That’s when the music called, and I just had to give my all
Now earth is a concert hall, and I’m singing to you
Cause life’s a playground not a school
I’ll break all of your eggshells one by one
Expand your straight and narrow with a little thing called fun…
A little levity when you’re not at your best
A little levity when life’s hard to digest
It puts the Rolaids to your acid test
So come on now and get some relief
Hello, I’m your long lost part
The freedom child in your heart of hearts
Childlike, but not childish
Playful, but not powerless
Responsible to freedom’s call
Driving all the slave drivers up the wall!
When you’re possessed by your perfectionist
I will be your exorcist
I can drive the demons out
Save your smile from your pout
I’ll break all of your eggshells one by one
Expand your straight and narrow with a little thing called fun…
Just a little thing called fun
The freedom child can cut you loose
When your head is hanging in a noose
Cause life is too precious and life is too short
To be a full-time worrywart!
When you are dried up from all the rules
I will throw you in the pool
Inviting you to be a fool
There’s enough heavy stuff weighing down on humanity
I suggest a lighter consciousness, losing weight through levity
When telemarketers pay you a call
Don’t let them drive you up the wall
Pretend that it’s phone sex and have a ball
In no time they’ll be getting off!
A little levity when you’re running amuck
A little levity when your hair day sucks
A little dab of it is more than enough
To smooth out your split ends
Hello sweet thing, I am your perfect man
Your search is over start the wedding plans
I will take care of you so do not fear
Just clean the house and fetch me one more beer
5. Mr. Right [A Poem]
My Mr. Right has just arrived
At last I get to be a bride
No more hoping, no more waiting
No more awkward dot-com dating!
He’s tall and dark and beyond cute
So shining in his armored suit
He’s my white knight, a total charmer
My love will melt off all that armor
You want me for your dinner
Whenever I get close
And I have no more need to be that kind of a roast!
Never Again! Never Again!
7. Never Again
I’m writing you a song to say goodbye
I’m moving up and on it’s time to fly
I wish you and your life the very best
Without me as your captive guest!
They say forgiveness sets us free
But first we need our boundaries
The time has come to take a stand
And take my gonads from your hands!!
The first few months I swept you off your feet
I took you out for tasty things to eat
Now that we’re steady it is time you know
Just what is underneath my machismo
Never again will I just give you the space
Letting you dump your garbage right in my face
I know it’s just projection
You don’t mean to be mean
But I don’t have to sit and be your projection screen!
Never again shall you take the drivers seat
Now that I’ve locked the door and swallowed the key
You thought you had a license
To take me for a ride
But you have just been handed down your last DUI!
Never again will I be your sounding board
When you are using words as weapons of war
From now on I’m protecting
The family jewels
From you breaking and entering the palace I rule!
Never again will I hand you the controls
I take my joy-stick back I’m king of my soul
You took me for a softy
All lover and no guts
But my lips were made for kissing more than your butt!
Never Again!
Never Again! Never Again!
No Way, Jose!
You like my muscles, I was made to win
I work out everything right in the gym
I will protect you, you are in good hands
If you play helpless I’ll play Superman
Venus Elyse
The human race it seems will go on mating
There ain’t no future in just masturbating
You’ll find your happiness without a mate
And then meet a man with no ‘S’ on his cape
I am your soul mate, call me Mr. Right
I make good money and my teeth are white
I’ve got the confidence you wish you had
I’ll treat you swell if you don’t make me mad
I’ve got an inner child that loves to whine
He needs his Momma’s breast but yours will do fine
I throw a tantrum when I don’t get my way
And if the truth be known, I think I might be gay
I have some allergies but not to hay
My ego breaks out when things don’t go my way
But I need no antihistamine to save the day
My cure is already inside
A little levity saves you cash on your meds
A little levity beats Viagra in bed
It gets a rise out of your sleepy head
And res-erects your life
6. Mr. Right
The time goes by and something isn’t right
We’re watching DVD’s most every night
You want to talk about your feelings again
While I’m fantasizing about your best friend
Never again will I try nourishing you
When it is clear that guilt is your favorite food
Goodbye sweet thing just call me Mr. Wrong
For you have wised up and have said, so long!
I had you fooled until you finally discovered
You can’t judge a man just by reading his cover
So off I go to find my next conquest
While you get busy with a therapist
You learn some self-respect and dignity
So you don’t search for Daddy in guys like me
