Holy Spirit Church Family Welcomes Fr. Thomas De Dang Nguyen!!!
Fr. Thomas was born in Central Vietnam and grew up in South Vietnam.
His vocation began at the tender age of 11 when he entered a Cistercian Junior Seminary. Although he graduated from the University of Saigon in Philosophy and Theology in 1979, Fr. Thomas was unable to receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders due to the communist regime. In fact, he was imprisoned because of his priestly vocation.
Fr. Thomas escaped Vietnam to Rome with sponsorship from the Holy See at
the end of 1980. On June 6, 1982, he was ordained by Pope Saint John Paul
II at St. Peter’s Basilica. Fr. Thomas continued his studies and received a doctorate degree in Dogmatic
Theology and a licentiate in Philosophy.
The warm weather of Southern California brought him to the Diocese of Orange in 1998. We are pleased
and honored that he is now part of the Holy Spirit Church Family. Please welcome him as he carries out
his pastoral duties and the priestly mission entrusted to him by Our Lord and Bishop Vann.

SUNDAY’S READING REFLECTION
SENT BY GOD:
In Amos’ time the vocation of prophet had achieved a
very formal status in Israel. The prophets had arisen, originally, to act as God’s voice when Israel was no longer led by
the spiritual/civil figures known as “judges,” but by monarchs. Over time, the monarchy had appropriated the offices
of priest and prophet, established them into companies, and
reserved the right to appoint courtly prophets. Then, as
now, when those in power also got to choose who would act
as their official conscience, things sometimes went awry. At
such times, God raised up prophets from unlikely places,
and this is how Amos received his vocation as prophet.
In last week’s Gospel we heard how Jesus was raised up
as God’s anointed from a place many viewed as unlikely. As
we continue to discern our own vocation as baptized disciples, we can be assured that we are, in Paul’s words,
“chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the One
who accomplishes all things according to the intention of
his will” (Ephesians 1:11).
As Grand Knight, David will be the face and voice of
all the members in Council 9667. He will help get all
the Knights actively involved in the life of our parish.
If you want to check out what David has cooking for
us, come to the parish picnic...you’ll see him grill
some hamburgers and hot dogs!!!
