non-stop fun, we also believe that camp is a place
for children to learn more about themselves, make
friends and explore their personal interests. It’s a place for them to

camps in sports, drama, music and more. Some take place before
and after our sensational 8-week day camp and others run
simultaneously, giving you the option to mix and match. There’s
something for every child of every age for every summer of
childhood.

Neil Klatskin Day Camp
FOR CHILDREN AGES 3 — 11 YEARS ■ JUNE 25 — AUGUST 17 ■ 9AM — 4PM
KADIMA For 3 & 4 year-olds (as of 10/15/12)
Meeting the needs of the energetic preschool child, emphasizing
the social growth, emotional development and physical needs of each
camper. Campers are divided by age and friendship into coed groups
averaging 14 children with low staff to camper ratios. Camp is home
based in air-conditioned rooms, with most activities taking place
outdoors. Half day, three-quarter day, and full day options are
available.
MASADA Entering Kindergarten & 1st Grade
Masada campers are challenged by a wide range of athletic, creative
and social activities that encourage independence and growth.
Special emphasis is placed on social skills, self-esteem and
sportsmanship. Each group, averaging 12 same sex or coed campers,
enjoys special activities, two daily swims and exciting theme days.
Bogrim (Moving On Up) for children entering Kindergarten
Rishonim (The First Ones) for children entering 1st Grade
GESHER Entering 2nd Grade
Provides campers with more unique and challenging opportunities,
including the chance to spend extended periods of time on projects
of particular interest to them. Specialists are on hand to ensure that
projects match the ability of campers. Campers are grouped with
approximately 12 same sex or co-ed campers and enjoy daily swim
instruction, and recreational swim, a daily choice period, late-nights,
exciting trips and much more!
TIKVAH Children with Special Needs Ages 5 to 15
Children participate in a diverse full-day program including academic
remediation, adaptive physical education, arts & crafts, drama,
instructional and recreational swim, Judaic programming, music,
theme days, live entertainment, extended nights, carnivals and
playground time, Oneg Shabbat and more. Group sizes range from 36 campers, staffed by a minimum of two caring and qualified
counselors. All prospective campers must receive an intake interview.

PARTNERS AT PLAY
Partnership with 92nd Street Y
The JCC has partnered with the 92nd Street Y to offer two exciting
camp options that take place on the hundred-acre Henry Kaufmann
Campgrounds in Pearl River, located 20 minutes from the JCC.
Transportation is included for all campers.
YOMI Entering 3rd and 4th Grade
Campers have access to many challenging and fun activities, as well
as Specialty Options that give campers a chance to spend extended
time on their favorite activities, and Sports Clubs, which give sports
enthusiasts more athletics. All campers participate in two daily
swims, including Red Cross instruction, taught in a pool complex with
three pools and a fabulous water slide. Exciting activities include
boating, hiking, high and low challenge courses with a climbing tower,
gymnastics, ceramics, cooking and more. Groups contain 14-18
campers and are co-ed. Short-term sleep-away options are available.
YOMI SENIORS Entering 5th and 6th Grade
Weekly day trips, overnights and a sleep-away week are just a few
highlights of this amazing program geared especially for older
campers. Our goal is to foster their independence and encourage
them to embrace new challenges. Campers get the best of both
worlds – all the energizing activities of an exciting day camp
combined with inspiring weekly trips. Groups are single sex and
average 12-14 campers.

Our goal as a quality camp for children is to encourage every child to
discover their best potential and to enable you, as parents, to watch
your child grow and learn with their camp experience.
The Neil Klatskin Day Camp takes pride in offering a dynamic program that
makes children feel loved and accepted, and at the same time, encourages
them to challenge themselves to achieve new things. To ensure that parents
gain a real sense of what we are trying to achieve, we make communication a
top priority. You receive weekly newsletters to inform you about important
camp activities, Camp-O-Grams to inform you about your child’s personal
progress, and Splash-O-Grams to inform you about your child’s swim progress.
In addition, if you ever have questions or concerns, our professional staff is
always eager to help.

Association (ACA). ACA Accreditation means that our camp meets the over
300 stringent health, safety, programming and human resources standards

Our Terrific Staff
A camp program is only as good as its staff, so we recruit counselors who
inspire our campers by serving as personal coaches, supporters and role
models. Equally important, are the relationships our counselors build with
each and every child. Many counselors return year after year, providing
campers with continuity in care and expertise. All counselors undergo a
rigorous orientation and in-service training program designed to help
them be the best they can be. Our program directors, unit leaders, head
counselors and specialists are all professional educators who mentor and
supervise counselors and, serve as direct parent liaisons who are available
for consultations upon your request.

Adventurous Activities
Non-stop fun is our goal, but the real adventure is giving every camper the
chance to explore new things and grow with their experiences. To make this
happen, we keep adding new activities as campers get older. Our exciting
programs are age appropriate and designed to keep your child physically and
mentally active as they grow and change.
Our FUNtastic Facilities
Our camp is located on the JCC’s 21-acre park-like property with state-of-theart indoor and outdoor resources. Outdoor facilities include three heated pools,
soccer and softball fields, basketball, sand volleyball and tennis courts, nature
trails, a low challenge course, four pavilions, outdoor stage, playgrounds and
wide open space for physical activities.
Indoor facilities include air-conditioned multi-purpose rooms, separate
boys’ and girls’ changing rooms with individual cubbies, first-aid center with
registered nurse, and kosher, nut aware, kitchen. Campers also utilize the
JCC main facility, including indoor pool, racquetball courts, gymnasiums,
theater and more. (See inside panel for Yomi and Yomi Seniors’ facilities).
Exciting Activities in a Nurturing Jewish Environment.
Children participate in age-appropriate activities that encourage them to
bond, make new friends and increase their self-confidence. Activities include
arts and crafts, athletics, daily Red Cross instructional and recreational swim,
Israeli culture, Judaic programming, challenge course, drama, music,
Tae Kwon Do, roller racers, sports, yoga, kiddie cars, exciting entertainment,
awesome carnivals, Israel day, Mitzvah day, trips (Gesher and Yomi Seniors),
special theme days, and more! Four, six, seven or eight-week options available.
It’s fun to be Jewish!
Fun is what we’re all about and while your children are busy enjoying their
summer, they are also exposed to ideas and values that help shape their
Jewish identity. Our Israeli Culture specialists are Schlichim (Israeli
counselors) who work closely with campers to offer dynamic programs that
add a Jewish flavor to everyday activities including introducing new Hebrew
words each day and learning about Israeli customs and traditions. Each
Friday we all come together as one big camp mishpacha (family) for our
Oneg Shabbat celebration and Sing-a-long. Then we send each child home
with a challah to celebrate the Sabbath with their real family.

A SEPARATION/ADJUSTMENT SUMMER PROGRAM
FOR 2 YEAR OLD CHILDREN

This eight-week separation preparation program provides an ideal setting for young children to have a nursery school experience during the
summer while easing into the first transition from home to school. A
parent or caregiver stays with each child until the separation process is
complete. Our specialized summer class placement assures that whenever possible children are in the same class with staff members and

PHILOSOPHY Your children will experience an enriching fun-filled
summer program, where our professional staff will encourage your
child’s social skills and nurture their creative expression. Our goal is to
create a welcoming environment to support your child’s growth and
development in preparation for nursery school.
SEPARATION The Ready 2 Go program is designed to facilitate a
successful separation or transition in preparation for our nursery
school. We recognize that children handle separation in different
ways, and our staff has the experience to support you and
your child through a successful transition. In all groups, the parent
or caregiver will stay in the class until the teacher determines the
separation is complete.
CURRICULUM Program includes daily indoor and outdoor play, water
activities, story time, singing, puppetry, and scheduled visits from a petting zoo. Discovery Time is an important part of your children’s daily routine when they are free to explore the environment and materials in
their own way or in small groups; Outdoor time allows children to
explore our state-of-the-art playground where they can develop their
gross motor skills; Water Play is an important sensory activity where
children enjoy our water park, water tables, wading pools and sprinkler
play; Music is once a week with a professional music teacher; Shabbat
celebration is a fun way for the children to learn the Shabbat blessings
and celebrate with Shabbat songs.

Two-Week Summer Dance Intensive

Students will learn basic technique that explores all the latest crazes and new dance forms. Studnets will take

great time! All instructors are experienced choreographers and teachers in major New York City dance schools,

A fun filled day of dance and camp activities! Ballerina’s take class in Creative Movement, Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop,

time in the waterpark, lunch break and rest/video time. Our teachers are experienced dance teachers with a
warm, caring approach in the classroom. The dance camp curriculum is based the use of props and imagination
to encourage children to learn music and dance concepts. Dance camp also promotes universal values such as

Daily schedule includes masterclass-style lessons, private practice time, and small

recreation. This exciting week culminates with a final concert in which flutists will
perform solos, duets, trios, and large ensemble music. Tuition includes lunches,

community based organizations, social skills and life skills training. ■ Door-to-door transportation is available
within a 15 mile radius in Bergen County only.

We accept reimbursements and payments from approved New Jersey Department of Human Services Division of Developmental Disabilities
(DDD) and other Service Agency Providers as well as sending school districts. Limited financial aid and scholarship assistance is available
for families with documented financial need. Scholarship and financial assistance applications along with all necessary documentation must
be submitted in a timely manner for appropriate consideration.
All Special Services Summer Programs and Camp Requirements
New campers are required to have an intake interview. JCC membership is NOT required for these program. Final program placements must
be approved by the director and camp coordinator. All official documentation provided to the JCC is kept in the strictest confidence and
used by the program instructors to meet each participant’s individual needs.

Camp Dream Street
The Pearl Seiden Summer Program for Children
with Cancer and other Blood Disorders
AUGUST 20 — 24 ■ 9:30AM — 3PM ■ AGES 4 — 14
Camp Dream Street is a special, weeklong day camp experience serving the social
needs of children with cancer and other blood disorders. Siblings are invited to
participate in the wide variety of social and recreational activities. Camp Dream
Street’s program includes arts and crafts, sports, dance, nature, tae kwon do, music,
swimming and entertainment, all held in age-appropriate groupings.
■ There is no charge for any camper at Camp Dream Street. Transportation is
provided. ■ Volunteer staff ages 16+ is welcome to apply. Teens earn community

The Neil Klatskin Day Camp has teamed up with the New Jersey YM-YWHA Camps to offer our 3rd-6th grade campers a unique
opportunity to attend a one or two-week sleep away camp experience at the New Jersey Y’s Camp Nah-Jee-Wah in Milford, Pennsylvania.
This sleep away option features everything from banana boat rides to jet skiing, and includes all activities, meals.

Information
Endowment Opportunities
A tax-deductible gift of $10,000 or more can establish a
personal endowment fund at the Kaplen JCC on the
Palisades that can be named in memory or honor of a
loved one. The fund can then be earmarked for a favorite
service or activity of your choice. The principal is never
expended, but the income generated from the fund allows
the JCC to provide vital and important services. Below is

Health & Safety
The health, safety and welfare of our campers are our top
priorities. A registered nurse is on the premises and we
maintain an ongoing relationship with a local pediatric
practice and hospital. In addition, the camp employs
several emergency medical technicians and is staffed with
numerous counselors who possess CPR and First Aid
Certification. Red Cross Certified Lifeguards and Water
Safety Instructors supervise our swim program.
Financial Assistance
The JCC makes every effort to ensure that children are
not denied enrollment in summer camp due to the
inability of the family to pay the full fee. You may contact
the Membership Office at 201.408.1448 or the day camp
office at 201.567.8963 for an application. Applications are
due no later than March 2, 2012.
