Ed Chaon Bookkeeping & Tax
Preparation
Preparing taxes makes most people uneasy, then there are others whose talents
are in the preparation of taxes. Ed Chaon is
in the latter category. He is good at what
he does—taxes. Ed, a 23-year native of
Truckee, offers accurate and timely bookkeeping services as well including accounts receivable (A/R), accounts payable
(A/P) and financial statements. His services also include accurate and affordable
tax preparation. He offers a mobile tax
preparation and bookkeeping service.
Ed attained his bachelor’s degree in
accounting, and the goal of owning his
own accounting and tax preparation business. He is registered with the California
Tax Education Council and is a member of
the American Institute of Professional
Bookkeepers. Ed can be reached at 530214-0687.

[ Flyers Energy
LLC ]
Barney Ferreira,
Owner
Barney, this business that has been a long-standing institution, how
long have you been in business, and how long have you been
conducting business in Truckee?
We have been in business since 1918, originally as Standard Oil,
then Bi-State Petroleum, Berry-Hinckley Industries, Western
Energetix, and finally Flyers Energy.
What is the nature of your business, what goods or services do you
provide?
We provide bulk fueling and lubricant solutions to a large area
that includes Truckee, Lake Tahoe and Sierra Valley.
Who are your clientele?
We service cities and towns, public utility districts, fire
departments, heat to fuel customers, excavators, contractors,
marinas for their boats, and ranchers with all of their machinery
needs.
What has been the most rewarding project undertaken by you in
Truckee?
Most recently I have been pleased to have been providing the
fuel for the new hospital cancer center building and the
expansion project.
What has been the greatest challenge overall to your business?
Trying to stay afloat, amidst an array of ever changing,
government rules and regulations – especially in this industry!
What has been the most beneficial overall to your ability to conduct
business in Truckee?
Due to Truckee’s desirability, there always seems to be a few
large projects going on keeping us busy.
Do you have any tips or pointers for other small business owners in
the region interested in continued success like yours?
Be the best at what you do, have a passion for what you do,
[ McCarthy
Sign Co. ]
Rob and Jeanie
McCarthy,
Owners
Rob you and Jeanie have been here for a long time, what is your
history?
Rob: McCarthy has been in the sign and graphic business for 42
years. Established as McCarthy Sign Co. in Truckee in 1978, when
we joined the Chamber. Our present business location is at 13406
Donner Pass Road, Donner Lake area, in the “Blue Building.” I also
was on the Chamber’s board of directors back then.
I began my career as an artist with Disney World in Florida in
1970 painting scenes, airbrushing characters and signs. We have a
complete full service sign business designing custom signs and
even your logo that will “brand” your business, and make you
stand out from the rest, especially your competition.
Jeanie: Rob can craft simple or fancy signs to reflect your
business budget or home with materials such as wood, granite,
metal, plexiglas, and even sandblasted boulders with your logo.
Rob also does digital printing and his portfolio is available at
McCarthysign.com.
What has been your most rewarding project since beginning in
Truckee?
Rob: My most rewarding project has been painting the Charlie
Chaplin mural on the Old Capital building in downtown in Historic
Truckee and the entrance sign to the Delta King in Historic Old
Sacramento.
Jeanie: Our McCarthy business slogan is “If you can’t catch
their eyes, you can’t catch their business.”
Rob: My goal is to treat all prospective customers like a “one
man shop” remembering when I started out, no job is too small!
And I am familiar with all of the Town of Truckee regulations and
permits for the Historic District.
Jeanie: The second trade that not everyone may know about is
that Rob sandblasts furniture, wood, car parts, etc. and on-location
homes interior and exterior and commercial buildings.
and have superior knowledge/performance for what you do.
When you have the opportunity, what are some interests outside of
work that you and your staff enjoy?
We enjoy all of the outdoor things such as camping, boating, jet
skiing, hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, and reading the Chamber
newsletter!
What do you find is the most valuable benefit of chamber
membership?
I appreciate the support of the business community.
TruckeeChamber.com • Truckee.com
What do you find is the most valuable benefit of chamber membership?
Rob: The most valuable benefit for me is the Chamber Mixers to
meet local business owners and friends. We are members of the
Truckee Lions Club and I was awarded Lion of the Year last year.
When you have the opportunity what are some interests that you
enjoy?
Jeanie: We have been married for 38 years with one daughter and
three grandchildren, and are professional dance instructors
teaching private swing and ballroom dance lessons. In fact Rob
and I met in Kitzbuhel, Austria on the dance floor – it’s a Cinderella
story.
