Due to high demand for very lightweight luggage, a super-light version is now ready for take-off: Salsa Air
Ultralight. The lightest Rimowa Cabin Multiwheel ® ever. With its new model, Rimowa presents another innovation in lightweight luggage and offers the ideal solution for carry-on luggage.
Flattering to the touch: ergonomically designed handles.
The gleaming polycarbonate luggage is presented in fashionable colours, the details distinctively accentuated
in black. Optimum mobility is guaranteed, thanks to the Multiwheel ® system with full rotatable casters, the
integrated multi-stage mono- telescope retracting handle system, and ergonomically designed carrying handles
with soft, easy -to- carry padding. Built to the latest standards in security technology, the cases are equipped
with combination locks set into the frame which are TSA-approved.
The interior is impressive as well, thanks to a lining as airy and robust as parachute silk. Both halves of the
case feature integrated net covers closed with zippers. This keeps case contents safely in place while permitting access from both sides.

wheels of the Multiwheel ® system move the case effortlessly, flawlessly and extremely smoothly, even on
uneven ground. With the Add a Bag holder, a traveller can attach additional luggage to the case, freeing
up a hand.
The telescopic handle features a new technology. It now offers
stageless adjustment and is ergonomically shaped, allowing the

ADVENTURE, TRAVEL
AND TIME TRAVEL
In 1932, Hans Bertram, 26, and Adolf Klausman
set out on a journey from Cologne, Germany on a
flight around the globe aboard the Atlantis, a Junkers
W33. The machine was a successor to the tried
and tested F13, an aircraft designed by Hugo
Junkers. Designed as a seaplane, it was equipped
with two pontoons.
After 80 days of travelling, the two aviators reached
the island of Timor. They decided to set their course
for the Fifth Continent, flying through the South
Pacific night. Their flight along the 840 km / 522 mi
nautical route carried them into a storm. Flying
blind through treacherous weather, sometimes at
altitudes exceeding 3,400 m / 11,200 ft in the icy
cold, and at other times scarcely 50 m / 164 ft
above the turbulent sea! With their remaining fuel,
they managed to reach the coast of Australia, where
they were forced to make an emergency water
landing in the first protected bay they could find.
Unbeknownst to them, the storm had swept them
approximately 250 km / 155 mi off course. They
had landed in the Kimberleys, one of the hottest
parts of Australia. The average daily high temperature there ranges between 40 and 45°C / 104
and 113°F.
The era in which this adventure took place continues
to fascinate us to this day.
Rimowa has been inspired by the inventors and
engineers of that bygone era, and for that reason
remain committed to their heritage:
In 1906, as a result of untiring research, Alfred
Wilm discovered duraluminium, the material that
has made lightweight construction possible. The
alloy is still in use today, its formula practically unchanged.
Hugo Junkers was the first to use the material in
aircraft construction; with it, he set milestones
that in some ways characterise us even today.
In 1937, inspired by the construction of Junkers
aircrafts and made possible with the help of duraluminium, Richard Morszeck introduced the first
overseas trunk made of lightweight metal to the
market.
In the past 40 years, Rimowa, lead by Dieter Morszeck,
has become internationally renowned as a premium
class luggage brand.
People with Rimowa suitcases are people who do a
great deal of travelling, whether for business, out of
fascination for foreign worlds and cultures, or for
the sake of new and at times extraordinary experiences. No matter where they travel, such as through
the Outback of Australia or the city of Cologne, and
whether their paths take them across desert sands
or water, they are true wanderers.

Together with JU-AIR and Friends of Historical Aircraft Association he is rebuilding the forerunner of
the W33 airplane – a Junkers F13. It will be the only
flyable F13 worldwide.

Bertram and Klausmann struggled to find some
way out of their plight. An attempt to fly at least
20 km / 12.5 mi with the final remaining drops of
fuel failed. Trying to swim across a bay, they had to
flee crocodiles. Weakened, disheartened and thirsty,
they returned to their aircraft. As it turned out, the
aeroplane of corrugated sheeting was a lifesaver:
they drank cooling water from the radiator and
regained their strength.
The men found new reason to hope. They removed
a pontoon from the Atlantis and carefully replaced
it with logs to prop up the wing. Their luggage contained helpful tools: they used two bathrobes and
a pair of linen pants to fashion a sail. The mast and
the rudder were custom creations.
On the thirteenth day after the emergency landing,
in the wee hours of the morning the pilot and mechanic raised their sail and set to sea, however
strong ocean currents and waves caused the makeshift boat to drift towards the rocky coast. They
returned to the bay from which they had come, then
decided to row the boat while keeping close to the
coast. After five days and nights at sea, they were
forced to disembark.
By this time, they had been lost for 18 days.
The first attempt on land led them through the bush
on foot, but they soon realised that this was one
path that would not lead to their rescue.
Bertram and Klausmann ventured back out to sea.
It was the night of the 28th day leading to the 29th
day since their emergency landing. The trip started
off smooth but soon the sea turned choppy. The only
chance to save themselves on land was a large but
unprotected bay. Both were well aware that from
here, there would be no future attempt to escape
by boat. It was then that they realised: the struggle
had come to an end.
On the 40th day following their emergency landing,
they were discovered by two Aboriginal people. They
gave the two survivors fish, water and – life! They
looked after the two completely exhausted men,
caring for them and using fire signals to notify other
bushmen. The message – that the two men who had
gone missing were still alive – had finally made its
way to a mission station.
53 days after they had vanished, the two aviators
returned from their horrifying expedition.

1937 Richard Morszeck – inspired by the material and
design of a Junkers aircraft – introduces the first trunks
created for overseas travel made of lightweight metal to
the market; an absolute innovation in luggage production.
From then on, the company did business under the name
'Rimowa' (Richard -Morszeck-Warenzeichen, or 'Richard
Morszeck Trademark').
1950 the first suitcases made of aluminium are produced,
featuring the typical groove structure. The classic Topas
is the prototype of this design innovation. Specially developed
for tropical journeys, the dazzling silver case is resistant
to temperature fluctuations and humidity. The high quality,
the light weight and the unmistakable groove design made
the Topas a rapid success, and the Rimowa brand became
known around the world.
1976 Dieter Morszeck developed a lightweight metal case
with a waterproof system made especially for professional
motion-picture and photography equipment. The new case
reliably protects valuable equipment against water penetration, moisture, heat and cold while ensuring shockproof
transport.

2006 The suitcases are fitted with TSA-approved locks,
developed by Travel Sentry Inc. These locks can be opened
and closed again during security checks without damage.
2009 Premiere of another spectacular innovation: the
lightweight Salsa Air polycarbonate series. The lightest
Salsa of all time makes an impression with its minimum
weight, maximum stability and avant -garde design along
with the latest in security technology.
2010 Rimowa celebrated two successful anniversaries:
60 years of aluminium and 10 years of polycarbonate. Two
materials, two innovations, two champions in their class.

In the US, Travel + Leisure magazine named Salsa Deluxe
'Best Luggage', and the Travel Goods Association gave

2011 the Salsa Air series was supplemented with the

Rimowa suitcases know no boundaries. The suitcases are fitted with TSA- approved locks with a key cylinder, which is exclusively developed
for Rimowa by ABUS. This allows for officers who are performing security checks to open and close the locks without damaging the luggage.
