Hillsboro NH Scholars is proud to announce the 3rd annual “Taste of Hillsboro”
event. The Taste of Hillsboro will be held
on March 17th at the Hillsboro Deering
Middle School from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Many
local restaurants in attendance to give the
community an opportunity to try selected
items off their menu. This event will be free
to attend, but you will purchase tickets at
the door to try the food. Tickets will be $1
each in $10 increments. The restaurants will
have tables set up in the middle school gym/
cafe with different selections for you to try,
but rather than using money to purchase
the food everything will be priced by tickets.
There will be tables in the center of the gym/
cafe for you to sit, relax and socialize. Music
will be provided Hickory Horned Devils.
Many of the band members performed last
year as Tmud and the Spuds. At the conclusion, a portion of the proceeds will go to the
local NH Scholars fund. Restaurants will be
encouraged to offer coupons, specials and
have menus available for their locations
to be used at a later date. NH Scholars will
also have raffles and door prizes to win at
the event. For more information about this
event, if you are interested in having a table
at the event or if your business would be
willing to donate an item for the raffles to

Project LIFT receives Granite State Reads grant
Project LIFT Adult Learner Services
Literacy Program is pleased to announce
it is the recipient of a Granite State Reads
grant in the amount of $991.52 to benefit
the Greater Peterborough Literacy Initiative,
in Peterborough, NH.
Project LIFT has provided free tutoring
instruction to over 1000 people in Hillsborough and several surrounding towns
since 1992. The main classroom is located
in Hillsborough with satellite locations in
surrounding libraries and other community
locations.
The new effort to provide services in the
Peterborough area will allow those seeking
instructional services for GED (general educational development) preparation, free of
charge, a much more realistic and attainable
goal. People from Peterborough, Temple,
Francestown, Greenfield, New Ipswich
and Antrim/Bennington area, now have
choice to attend classes in Peterborough or
Hillsborough. Classes have begun at the Riverview Apartments one night per week. Additional instruction times and locations are
now being considered. Judy Fournier, LIFT
Program Director states that volunteers
are occasionally matched with students for
one-on-one support. However, the extensive
time and effort managing volunteer recruitment and on-going direction has limited
this structure. Although volunteers are still
very much welcome, with the new collaboration, consistent programming is possible.
If interested in attending classes or to find
out about volunteer opportunities, please
contact Judy Fournier, Program Director at
(603) 464-5285.
