With local news every half hour in morning drive starting at 5am, updates from the KWQC-TV newsroom in afternoon drive and breaking news as needed, WLLR keeps Quad Citians on top of the days’ top stories. The station is linked with the National Weather Service for instant warnings if necessary. On a daily basis, WLLR’s news partner KWQC-TV provides ‘First Alert’ weather reports, with their meteorologists providing at least 36 weather updates per day, as well as live continuing coverage during severe events. Traffic Information WLLR ‘Total Traffic’ provides live Quad Cities traffic reports hourly each weekday morning and afternoon. The on air team also breaks into programming when there is a major traffic concern. From crashes that close major roads to backups on the metro bridges (I-74, Centennial bridge and the Rock Island Arsenal bridge), WLLR listeners know they’ll get the information they need first. Dependable coverage when our listeners need it most. Emergency Alerts When there is an emergency in Eastern Iowa/Western Illinois, WLLR News is on the job with complete and continuing coverage. WLLR broadcasts messages for the emergency alert system (EAS) including severe weather announcements and Amber alerts. WLLR news reporters give detailed information on weather threats, from watches issued by the National Weather Service, to reports of power outages and downed trees. WLLR goes on the air within minutes to alert and inform listeners, relaying information from authorities on evacuations and locations of emergency shelters. During the winter, our news staff provides closing information for area schools and businesses. We also put that information online. In the old days, listener communication with their favorite radio station was strictly by mail (as in Post Office) or by telephone (land line at that!)--now, cellphones, smartphones and tablets make it possible for listeners to interract with us from ANYWHERE! That's why WLLR afternoon talent Jillene and Promotions Director Cara Taylor invest time each day communicating with our listeners via Facebook and Twitter. Community news, traffic & weather---and of course country music and concert news--all at our listeners fingertips instantly! $1,464,832! That's how much money WLLR listeners have donated to St. Jude Children's Hospital--from our very first 'Country Cares for St. Jude' Radiothon in 1992, through the 2013 event. Cancer affects everyone and St Jude specializes in fighting cancer and other catastrophic diseases in CHILDREN. While the two-day Radiothon each February is the focus of WLLR's St Jude fundraising efforts, WLLR keeps St. Jude Children's Hospital high profile on the station year-round with events like the 'St. Jude Mini Golf', ‘round-up’, ‘jeans days’, ‘buck up’, and other retail promotions designed to make it easy for listeners to donate to St Jude Children’s Hospital. *Source: Fall 2012 Arbitron 12+ Share, Country Aircheck’s Ratings & Revenue Companies Report, 2013 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Station Awards and Nominations WLLR VP/Market Manager Jeff Ashcraft Nominated for Country Aircheck GM of the Year, 2013. Whether talking about what’s going on in the news, doing shout-outs to their listener friends on their way to work, interviewing country stars touring locally or cheering on the Cubs, Hawkeyes, Fighting Illini, Blackhawks or Bulls, Pat and Dani truly reflect the attitudes and values unique to our Iowa-Illinois bi-state area. Voted “Best Radio Personalities” by the readers of the River Cities Reader, LEUCK & HOWE host a daily segment on the highly-rated ‘Quad Cities Today’ morning show on KWQC-TV 6 (NBC) called ‘Sixty Seconds with Leuck & Howe’, with interesting news oddities, country music news and local community events. Most importantly, they’re always doing all they can to helping local causes like ‘Light the Night’, ‘Special Olympics’, ‘Make a Wish’ & others, plus those fund-raisers that seem to come along so frequently for families those whose lives have come upon difficulties they didn’t expect. Leuck & Howe are truly a special morning team, involved in the community as few others can be— Dani actually has her own country band! The ‘Dani Lynn Howe Band’ plays venues in our area year-round, have opened for major country stars like Martina McBride, Brad Paisley, Phil Vassar & many others, and have helped raise thousands of dollars for charitable causes, most notably St Jude Children’s Hospital. No one who’s ever had an encounter with Pat Leuck forgets the experience. Born and raised in the Quad Cities (Moline High School class of ’75), he’s a fun, regular guy who’s met most of WLLR’s audience personally and no doubt remembers each & every one of their--and their kids’-names! A member of the Orion (IL) Library Board, Pat has long been deeply involved in the Quad City community. A father of five and a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, he still believes they (the Cubs) have a chance to win the World Series...maybe next year? Jim is a Quad City radio fixture, having been on air in the market since 1977. In his time with WLLR (twenty years), his daypart has never NOT been #1! Jim’s on air style is smooth and conversational as he keeps listeners in touch with breaking news like local issues that affect us all, for example: traffic. As Program Director, Jim has relationships with all the major concert promoters bringing shows to the region and at the same time, he has ongoing dialogues with listeners about who THEY’D like to see perform in the Quad Cities. And because Jim hosts a “All E-request Lunch hour” segment from noon -1p, he has a personal sense of the country music that our listeners really want to hear. Everyone likes Jillene! They have heard her on air, met her at any of her many appearances in the area over the past 3 years, or gotten to know her online via social media, but the numbers bear it out: Quad Citians love Jillene. Listen to this: the share of 12+ audience listening to Jillene in the afternoons (20.7 Fall 2012)more than DOUBLES that of any other station. Jillene is also the area’s resident expert on “The Voice”. This NBC prime time show featuring country superstar Blake Shelton dominates network ratings, and in the Quad Cities, Jillene is the go-to person for updates on the show and predictions of who’ll advance. KWQC-TV recognized this and uses Jillene exclusively for updates on the show during their 5pm local news. Finally… Jillene know SOCIAL! Social media director for WLLR, Jillene is always on top of what’s happening in the Quad Cities and in Country music. Check out her tweets and WLLR facebook page wall posts any time country music… or anything of intrest to WLLR listeners…is in prime time. She’s on top of it and Jillene get and keeps the dialogue going. Relationships with the Country Music Community: WLLR has been a member of the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music Association, and continues to be an industry leader. Ron Evans has been Music Director of WLLR since 1985; he has an outstanding relationship with the country music record community and a genuine understanding of the Quad Cities country listener. In an age where many companies have ONLY mandated corporate playlists, Ron and Program Director Jim O’Hara choose every song on WLLR locally based upon a combination of national trends, sales & research and local requests and research. Daily playlists are also produced by Ron Evans. Sunday nights on WLLR is when new music gets DISCOVERED! ‘New: Discover and Uncover!’ is a half hour of new songs by unsigned artists-definitely NOT the same old thing. During Spring, 2013 these artists and groups enjoyed airplay on this show: Unwound, Teresa Wright, Sasha Beyce, Dan Eubanks, Steve McCann, Chuck Bene and Richie Fields. Quad City region artists Jake McVey, Ryan Bizarri and Shaun Cavanaugh have their music posted for listeners to hear at www.wllr.com, thanks to ‘New: Discover and Uncover!’ Shaun Cavanaugh WLLR Morning Co-Host Dani Lynn Howe has her own band. The ‘Dani Lynn Howe Band’ is one of the premier country bands in the bi-state (Iowa/Illinois) area. May, 2013 Jake McVey Interview for WLLR.com to discuss his new music, touring in Iowa, and his visit to the Quad Cities that week. Hear Jake’s music at http://www.1037wllr.com/pages/ohara.html February, 2013 Adam Wayne, an unsigned country singer from Minnesota, stopped by WLLR for an interview for WLLR.com, talking about getting his career started, touring Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Missouri. Hear Adam’s music at http://www.1037wllr.com/pages/ohara.html Two years ago, WLLR launched an entirely new way for listeners to be involved in deciding which songs are played on WLLR: the ‘Facebook Faceoff’. It works like this: Each Friday afternoon, WLLR announces the artist and title of two songs that will ‘face-off’ on WLLR’s Facebook page that weekend. We post audio of the songs on WLLR’s website so listeners can compare the two. From 6pm Friday night, until 9am Monday morning listeners can visit WLLR’s Facebook page and cast their votes, and Monday morning ‘Leuck & Howe’ declare the winner! Once a song wins, it stays on the Facebook Faceoff each weekend until: a) it loses, or b) it wins four weeks in a row. Once it wins for four weeks it goes into WLLR’s‘Facebook Faceoff Hall of Fame’! Here are songs that listeners voted into WLLR’s ‘Facebook Faceoff Hall of Fame’ so far in 2013: *The Farm “Home Sweet Home” *Luke Bryan “Drunk On You” *Chris Young “Neon” *Lee Brice “Hard 2 Love” *Brantley Gilbert “Kick It in the Sticks” *Lauren Alaina “18 Inches” *Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Eric Church “The Only Way I Know” *Thompson Square “If I Didn’t Have You” *Jerrod Niemann “Only God Could Love You More” *Jake Owen “Anywhere With You” *Jason Aldean “1994” *Justin Moore “Point at You” This promotion has not only helped us better gauge which songs really appeal to WLLR’s audience—but it’s also a lot of fun. Local Support of Major Country Concerts: During the CMA Entry Period, WLLR served as the official welcoming station for these major local concerts (beginning with the most recent): *JUSTIN MOORE with Special Guest: Dustin Lynch March 28, 2013 Adler Theatre *LUKE BRYAN With: Thompson Square and Florida-Georgia Line March 2, 2013 Venue: i-Wireless Center Moline IL *RASCAL FLATTS with the Band Perry and Kristen Kelly January 11, 2013 i-Wireless Center, Moline IL *CARRIE UNDERWOOD with HUNTER HAYES November 16, 2012 i-wireless Center, Moline IL *ERIC CHURCH October 5, 2012 i-Wireless Center Moline Il *ZAC BROWN BAND August 3, 2012 i-Wireless Center, Moline IL *The 2012 Mississippi Valley Fair July 31-Aug 5, 2012 Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, Davenport IA. Featuring Dierks Bentley, Justin Moore, Eric Church, Phil Vassar & others. WHAT: In August 2012 country singer Rodney Atkins turned his opening-night show at the Mississippi Valley Fair and the daytime fair surroundings into the music video for his song “Just Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll.” RESULTS: The single lingered no higher than the 30s on the country charts, but the video had more than 84,000 views.
