LIBRARIANII-SCHOOLOFLAWLIBRARY
The Library of the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, Río Piedras Campus, is
consideringcandidatestofillthefulltimetenuretrackpositionasLibrarianII,starting
January2017.
Requirements:MastersinLibraryorInformationSciences(MIS,MLIS,MLS)fromaninstitutionaccreditedby
theAmericanLibraryAssociation(oritsinternationalequivalent);JurisDoctor(JD)fromaninstitutionaccredited
bytheAmericanBarAssociation(notrequired,butstronglypreferred);minimumoffive(5)yearsofexperience
in law library administration or supervision, and in legal bibliographical services and resources, printed and
digital;knowledgeandexperienceinlibraryservicesanddigitalintegratedinformationsystems;knowledgeof
onlineeducationsystemsanddigital“OpenAccess”platforms;experienceinthecreation,implementation,and
participationineducationalprogramsofinformationsystems;experienceinsupervisinglibrarystaffinpublic
serviceinstitutions;capacitytoworkindividuallyandinateam;proficiencyinSpanishandEnglish;availableto
worknightshiftsandonweekends,andholidays;demonstrateexcellentabilitytoworkinamultidisciplinary
and collaborative environment; commitment to legal education; proficient in using programs such as Word,
Excel and PowerPoint and basic knowledge of the use of Content Management Systems such as Wordpress,
Joomla,andothers.
Responsibilities:CollaborateinthedevelopmentandadvancementofnewtechnologiesintheLibraryandthe
SchoolofLaw;providereferenceservicestoprofessors,students,andthegeneralpublic;supportprofessors,
students,andvisitorsintheirlegalresearch;offertrainingsregardinglegalresearchandlibraryskills;develop
services,programs,bibliographicalandaudiovisualcollectionsthatreflectmoderncurriculumtendenciesand
supporttheSchool’sacademicprograms;participateinlegaleducationactivitiesorganizedbytheLibraryand
theSchoolofLaw;assistinteachingLegalWritingandResearchcoursestolawstudents;helpthefacultywith
theuseoftechnologicalresources,includingonlineeducationplatforms(i.e.Moodle);evaluateprintanddigital
services and resources; help update the Library’s website; support in academic accreditation procedures in
highereducationinstitutions;activelyparticipateinthedailylifeoftheSchoolofLawandtheUniversity,aswell
asfulfilltheresponsibilitiesofthefacultythatmightbeapplicabletothepositionofLibrarianII,asstatedinUPR
bylaws.
