I SSUE 34 2010: A Banner Year for the Madre de Amor Hospice Foundation, Inc. The year 2010 saw the continues emergence of the Madre de Amor Hospice Foundation Inc. as a strong force in the country’s palliative movement. Two momentous events stood out among others. On August 19, 2010 its record sixteenth anniversary was a great cause for celebration. The powerful play “Pahimakas at Panimula” penned by Irma Dimaranan from Dr. Fermin D. Adrianos “Oh God Why Sarah?” Was staged at the DL– Umali Hall on February 17-18, 2010. Directed by Prof. Elmer Rufo it was warmly received by an appreciative audience, a majority of which were college students. They wrote moving articles on their changed perspective of death. In this issue the statistics for 2010 is presented by the Hospice Medical Director . We remember the legacy left behind by three hospice icons, Mr. Antonio R. Mercado, Dr. Josefina Magno, and Sarah Katrina Adriano, Hospice Founding President, Chairman and Inspiration respectively. Because of them so many things became possible. We cite the dedicated men and women, the members of the Board of Trustees, The Medical Director and her staff and the volunteers. They are the epitome of what service to the Lord is all about. The generosity of our benefactor is also worth mentioning.. Above all, we thank God the Divine Provider for truly without him we could not have lasted this far Another fruitful year lies ahead of us strengthened by the promise that “He who has begun, the good work in you will carry it through to completion right up to the day of Christ Jesus.” 1 Philippians:6 The Editor ‘Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another just as God has forgiven you because you belong to Christ.” Ephesians 4:32 News Briefs: SALAMAT DOK ABS CBN’s Salamat Dok by Bernadette Sembrano made our 2 patients Christmas Wishes come true. Our lucky kids Arsley Perez and Angelo Gonzales both diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia were given a shopping gift certificate courtesy of SM City Calamba. Gelo enjoyed buying clothes as it was his first time to go to SM City. On the other hand, Arsley was more interested in buying books including those for her siblings. She bought just one dress to wear during the hospice Christmas party. After roaming around SM, they were treated to a lunch at the Kenny Rogers restaurant. It was a wish come true for the kids. PATROL NG PILIPINO Another documentary program of ABS CBN Patrol ng Pilipino hosted by Jeff Canoy, was shown on December 28, 2010. Two other kids were featured as well as the hospice Christmas party. Yna diagnosed with hepatoblastoma wanted a Barbie doll. Gillian with osteopetriosis, wished for recovery so that he can live longer. Both Yna who wanted a Barbie doll and Gillian who wished for a battery operated motor toy will receive their gifts from a kind hearted lady who watched the tv program via The Filipino Channel . CHRISTIAN SCHOOL INTERNATIONAL BRIGHTENS HOSPICE PARTY The grade school students of the Christian School International accompanied by their teachers Ms. Ayvee Escobin and Mr. Meiji Laserna attended the Hospice Christmas party on December 17, 2010. They distributed bags which were designed by the students themselves and were filled with Christmas goodies . The group was very grateful that they were given the opportunity to share their blessings to our needy patients. Virginia G.
