CR Asia Issue 19 May 2014
The Group Perspective
Malaysia has started the year
well having been busy with jobs at
BASF and Petronas Penapisan.
Malaysia has also secured
significant catalyst handling and
high pressure water jetting jobs for
PPTSB.
As expected 2014 has
commenced well for the Group
with record levels of work in
hand and several major projects
already well underway. The
business employed a record
2,191 employees in February.
CRAS after achieving record
revenues last year is poised for
another good year in 2014 having
secured significant catalyst handling
jobs for JAC and ExxonMobil, a
chemical cleaning job in Pakistan,
and our first CDT jobs for Shell
Bukom and ExxonMobil. CRAS
have also secured a 2 year
extension to the Shell Global
catalyst handling contract.
India has completed a number
of significant projects for
Reliance and Gail, and is now
well progressed on the Reliance
Parex job whilst mobilizing for a
turnkey shutdown for HPCL in
Vizag.
In Thailand we are completing the
significant shutdown for SPRC in
Thailand, have commenced work on
our CUEL Inpex project and have
secured significant volumes of work
in the upcoming Bangchak
shutdown.
The roll out of phase 2 of
our SITS system continues
making all standard
procedures and work
instructions available across
the Group through our web
site improving access to
information and our levels of
compliance.
Please ensure that our
safety procedures and work
instructions are followed at all
times and ensure you take
care of your fellow employees
on site. Remember "Safety is
our First Priority".
Once again on behalf of the
CR Asia Board of Directors I
want to thank you all for your
efforts to date and look
forward to continued success
throughout the remainder of
the year.

3 TOC Glycol
tubular job for CRAT
This is the third turnaround for
tubular reactors at TOC Glycol that
we have been awarded. CRAT has
now executed the jobs in 2008,
2011 and 2014. We assigned
around 200 people consisting of
187 Thais and 13 expatriates. We
are proud that we completed the
job 4 days early from the original
schedule from 19th January 2014.
Clough Manora Project
- 10 years of servicing
Clough Thailand
CR Asia Thailand has been
working with Clough since the
ALCAN G3 Expansion at the end
of 2004 and kept on going year by
year, project after project. The
latest CTL operation is the
fabrication of a 2600 ton oil and
gas wellhead and processing
platform - MANORA - being built
by Clough Thailand for the
Mubadala Petroleum affiliate Pearl
Oil. CRAT once again was chosen
as the preferred precommissioning services contractor,
responsible for services including;
cleaning of pipe spools, pressure
testing of all pipelines, hydrostatic,
pneumatic, N2 service tests, joint
management, bolt torqueing and
tensioning, chemical cleaning,
lube oil flushing, helium nitrogen
leak testing services (HeN2) and
manpower supply.
Works started in December
2013 on the platform jacket riser
pipes and the Plem and continued
with activities which included about
40 CRAT specialists onsite, 7 days
a week with non-stop-services!
Load-out and sail-away is
scheduled for April 2014. CRAT
again was chosen as the preferred
contractor to attend during the
"offshore carry-over-works" at the
MANORA Field Development, 80
km out in the northern part of the
Gulf of Thailand. Expected
duration offshore - 4 to 6 months!!
Other projects between CRAT
and Clough over the years
included; ALCAN G3 works in
Malaysia and Vietnam, the AOKA
MIZU at Sembawang Shipyard for
AIBEL/VETCO and the YOLLA
platform for Apache Energy, just to
name a few. It always has been a
pleasure working on Clough
projects and many lasting
friendships have been established
during this period. Wishing STP&I
all the best with taking over one of
the most suitable "assembly yards"
in Thailand.

CRAS Skimming job
in Pakistan
In February 2014 two teams of
catalyst handling specialists flew
to Pakistan for the skimming of an
MTSC unit for one of our
clients.The request for this
skimming work came in quite late
which gave us a tremendous
challenge to prepare the proposal
and organize, prepare and ship
the equipment to Pakistan on time.
Due to the hard work of Moh,
David, Jefri, Sally, Ginger and
the guys who packed the
equipment we were able to meet
the target date from our client.
The job went well and both
personnel and equipment
returned safely to Singapore.

Myanmar offshore pigging project
Jan 2014 gave us our first
breakthrough for both CRAS
and CRAT CDT divisions to
execute a decoking job on an
offshore platform. Petronas
Yetagun contracted us to
decoke their condensate reboiler heater. This was a job
CRAT had secured with
Petronas at the end of 2013
and was supposed to start on
Christmas Day but due to a
delay from the client we were
able to start a week later.
Therefore, two CRAS CDT
operators and six CRAT CDT
ground support crew traveled
by boat on 1st Jan (New Year's
Day) and stayed offshore in the
Yetagun accommodation, with
some rolling feeling in their
beds..!! Being brave guys they
finished up the project for the
client despite the bad sea
state………

service and this job marks our
virgin offshore decoking project
for the CR Asia Group. We now
look forward to more enquiries
for offshore pigging works in
the very near future. On behalf
of CR Asia I would like to thank
Petronas for giving us this
opportunity to showcase our
capability to them.

Project
HMC Polymer
shutdown
CRAT recently completed the Troll A
project of aibel after 4 months working from
1st Dec 2013. Aibel Troll A project is located
at LeamChabang, Sriracha and our scope of
works included; hydrotesting, nitrogen/helium
leak testing, bolting, water flushing/drying
and wash down of the module.
A shutdown at HMC Polymer was
completed on 22nd March 2014. Our
scope included a CCR Unit catalyst
loading with approximately 30 people
on 2 shifts. We achieved this without
any incidents.
CRAI news and current events
CR Asia India completed one year
of operations in November 2013 after
becoming a 100% subsidiary company
of CR Asia Group. The company
transformed very swiftly and smoothly,
with the able guidance, leadership &
support of the Board of Directors,
Group MD - Mark Stansfield, my
predecessor Peter Cheshire and other
contributors from CR Group and Indian
Operations, to become a successful
organization in delivering customer
expectations and venturing into new
markets.
The second half of 2013 was very
enterprising and focused which brought
several large projects, such as; IOCL
Mathura catalyst change-outs; KFCL
ammonia converter catalyst and basket
replacement; IOCL Panipat emergency
shutdown; several projects for
Reliance; and into 2014 with many
other projects for RIL both completed
and ongoing, plus the forthcoming
HPCL Vizag turnaround for which
mobilization has already commenced at
the time of writing. Each of these
projects are mentioned in more detail
throughout the newsletter.
In 2014, CRAI will be undertaking
several critical jobs in Reliance during
every shutdown planned. In order to
meet the customer expectation, CRAI
has located a new yard in Jamnagar
to give its employees a better place
to work. In January 2014, CRAI
Jamnagar was gifted with a
27,000sqft yard with a large office to
accommodate over 25 personnel.
Being closer to our customer and
having a better equipped facility, it
not only brings confidence to our
customer but also motivates our local
team to deliver more. We plan to
invest in key skilled personnel to take
up new business such as mechanical
plant engineering services,
continuous presence contracts and
shutdowns & turnarounds.
Ian Thompson, Group Business
Development Manager has accepted
a temporary role to be based in India
for one year to assist CRAI senior
management to develop new
business strategy, to venture into
new markets and new business
within existing markets. His objective
is to set up a Business Development
team, train and develop the business
in India. He comes with over 16 years
of experience in this field and it will
be very valuable to use his expertise
to grow the business in India. CRAI
staff welcomes Ian Thompson to
India.

Major turnaround for CRAT
CR Asia Thailand recently
completed one of their biggest
events ever, at a facility in
Maptaphut. Planning started in
mid-2013, and with almost 100
heat exchangers, in excess of a
dozen columns and just under
10 reactors within the 140+ item
worklist, plus significant cold
cutting works on major revamp
equipment, the team had its work
cut out in order to achieve the
preparations completion date of
December 2013, whilst also
carrying out pre-T/A works on fully
traying out a new column for
installation before the event had
even kicked off.
With around 1300 personnel
on board, including 200 indirect
support, across 2 shifts, the tools
and equipment required to
maintain good productive work
was a task in itself. Trailer followed
container as our equipment and
procurement people brought all of
the items that had been requested,
much of it arriving in the final 2
weeks before the start of work.
Supporting all involved was our
SHE team of 22 people, headed
by Khun Krung. A programme of
training including confined space,
fit for work, working at height plus
numerous craft specific
competency courses all had to be
conducted before Day 1 of the
event. Everyone attended the
Incident and Injury Free (IIF)
session before they could enter
site. Daily TBT's, constant safety
campaigns plus a splendid Safety
Awareness Day were part of the
regime of trying to keep our
"family" safe and well. The
incentive for a clear week was a
raffle for a Honda motorcycle, and
we are proud to say that we
managed to give away four during
the whole event. And they came
with crash helmets too!!

News
Two units were
decommissioned in readiness for
the work by our chemical cleaning
team over a several day period,
before the plants could be handed
over by Operations. Our revamp
support consisted of catalyst
removal from the reactor and the
cold cutting at 36 locations. The
cutting was performed using
HPWJ technology, in partnership
with parent company Mourik, as
well as diamond saw and diamond
wire cutting, both of which were
supported by Hilti.
Our "regular" workscope of
mechanical opening, cleaning and
reassembly of columns, HEX and
drums went relatively smoothly,
with the self-propelled bundle
puller and wash-bay bundle clamp
getting plenty of attention from
inquisitive onlookers. These were
utilized for the first time on the site
and were 'new to view' by many of
our clients team. Utilising most of
the automatic cleaning equipment
we own, the new wash-bay
worked a treat, and was never
really over crowded, even with
over 30 bundles on the floor at
one stage.
Major column re-traying works,
in association with the column
vendor, really benefitted from the
new lift hoist that had been
purchased and installed by CRAT
specifically for this event. As the
column in question is almost
100m high, it more than paid its
way in the time saved travelling up
and down by vertical ladders.
With intelligent pigging
following furnace de-coking, the
PSD team were 2nd to complete
their workscope and demobilise
from the site towards the last
week of February. Glenn's
mercury surveillance crew were
kept busy ensuring that no one
came into contact with Hg
contaminated items.
Our expertise in mining was
enhanced as we worked
several shifts removing coke
from one of the column
bottoms - not a job for the faint
hearted, that's for sure. About
26m3 later, the team was
relieved to put away the jackhammers and get back to
normal duties.
The removal and reload of
the reactors went extremely
smoothly, with Callum and his
crew carrying out the wet
dumping of a reactor for the
first time with considerable
success. "Next time it will be
quicker and smoother" he has
told us. And through all of this,
SSD were busy cold cutting by
clam shell over 300 pipe
locations, machining flange
faces and supporting all of the
unbolting and final bolting
works by hydro-torque or
tensioning.
As we go to press, the final
touches are being made in
order to get the units back into
the hands of the clients'
operations team, whilst still
maintaining focus on safe
working and quality delivery.
The event tag-line was "One
Team, One Family, One
Event". It has been a hard
journey but we believe that the
tag-line aspiration has been
delivered!!

First furnace
decoking project with
Shell Bukom refinery
February 2014 was an
auspicious month for CRAS,
with Shell Singapore refinery
awarding us our first ever
contract for a furnace decoking
project. We have executed
many furnace pigging projects
for Shell over the past 14 years,
such as; SASREF (Saudi
Aramco Shell refinery), Shell
Seria (Brunei), Shell Miri
(Borneo), Shell Port Dickson
(Malaysia), Shell Batangas
(Philippines) and Shell Rayong
(Thailand).
Due to our vast furnace
pigging experiences not only
with the Shell organisation but
with many refineries in South
East Asia companies, Shell
Bukom awarded us the pigging
project to decoke their crude
furnace. A total of 16 pigging
crews with 3 pigging machines
were mobilized onsite and
working around the clock to
decoke this furnace. The crews
finished the project within the
given schedule and the client
was pleased with our service.

2 projects for CRAI
IOCL Panipat
IOCL Panipat had an emergency
shutdown and requested CRAI to mobilize
within a very short period. CRAI responded
to the customer request and diverted
equipment which was assigned for another
IOCL refinery after due consultation with the
client. The job was completed which
eliminated a shutdown to replace catalyst at
a later planned date.
KFCL India
KFCL, a fertilizer company based in
Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh in India engaged
CR Asia India for catalyst replacement
and basket replacement in their ammonia
converter plant (three units) which was
executed successfully in two phases.
This is a new customer for CRAI and the
customer was very pleased with the work
executed by the team.
More projects from Reliance for CRAI
CR Asia India performed
several projects for Reliance all
through 2013; including PAREX
Train 2, DHDT in DTA plant,
several heater pigging jobs for
decoking and high pressure
water jetting for heat exchanger
cleaning (approx. 54000 tubes
in 18 days). The next period
with Reliance started with
decoking pigging of heaters on
a regular basis where we
deployed 4 units dedicated for
them. Meanwhile planning for
the Aromatics and Crude
Shutdown started with the
customer's operation team,
thus resulting in securing
some major work in April
2014. CRAI will be executing
PAREX Train 1 (the fourth
similar project and CR is the
only contractor to execute
PAREX in Reliance), VGO in
SEZ plant, HNU catalyst
change-out, Tatorey catalyst
change-out, multiple heater
tube cleaning using our
decoking technology and
heat exchanger tube bundle
cleaning of over 40,000
tubes.

Safety Update
Well, what a dynamic first
quarter for 2014! With all of our
CR Asia companies involved in
many shut down projects, small
and large, safety has been
paramount and has importantly
contributed to overall successful
completions throughout the Asian
region.
With only a few minor hiccups
occurring along the way, all of our
staff have been responsible to
date, for safe and timely
executions of many technical and
high risk operations carried out
over the past few months. It has
been and continues to be an
intense period of activity and I
strongly urge everyone to keep up
the diligent approach to safety
and our CR Asia Group's ultimate
goal of "ZERO HARM" to all of
our staff, clients and any other
personnel involved in our
projects.
Please remember that
anyone and everyone has the
authority and are duty bound to
say "STOP" if there is any
doubt that a job is not being
carried out safely and to help
resolve any safety issue
present.
2014 still has a long way to go
with many more projects
scheduled and potentially others
that will emerge. We all have a
strong sense of safety and
respect for our fellow employees
so I encourage everyone to keep
up the emphasis and continue the
year as we have started.
Work safe, play safe and
live life to the full.

New service for CRAS
consultancy, monitoring with
data analysis and cleaning and
the aim is to deliver a complete
solution to the customer
resulting in enhancing cooling
capacity and therefore
increasing productivity.
In addition to the existing
cleaning techniques for the
external cleaning of finned
tubes, CR Asia can now offer
dry-cleaning which is done by
using baking soda as blasting
medium. This method has
many advantages and for the
right configuration of ACHE the
cleaning can be done fully
online.
In November 2013 two
representatives of Mourik Cooler
Optimisation (MCO-Team bv)
Jasper Rietveld and Gerrie
Sijnesael , visited the CR Asia
Singapore office to introduce the
latest developments on Air Cooled
Heat Exchanger (ACHE)
maintenance. For the last couple

of years, CR Asia had been using
foam cleaning and mechanised
hydro-jetting for cleaning of the
external surface of finned tubes of
ACHE but the MCO-Team concept
offers much more. The philosophy
is delivering cooling capacity to the
client rather than simply cleaning.
The service offered comprises of
CR Asia Singapore has
taken the initiative to develop
the service further offering this
innovative and complete
solution to our clients.
