Tesco Lotus opened Thailand’s and Asia’s first zero-carbon store in the Bang Phra area of Chonburi. The store,
which emits net zero carbon dioxide, demonstrates the hypermarket chain’s commitment to the environment.
Features include lower-watt LED light, hydrocarbon refrigerator and rammed-earth walls; a wind turbine and
solar cells power the store. Rainwater will be collected for car washing and to flush store toilets. Tesco Lotus
Property Director Sompong Rungnirattisai said the store is aimed at reducing carbon emissions at 50 per cent
within 2020.
