ST P PRESS The newsletter of The Forest Academy, a Science and Sports Academy, working together to achieve high standards. Dear Parent / Carer, We are fully in the pre exam season; with year 11 having their mocks just before the holidays and year 9 and the sixth form this week. The assessment structure is moving back to a linear one, with the elements assessed outside of the exam hall shrinking. This means that thorough preparation and revision become even more crucial, as the exams sat in May and June will largely determine the final grade. Obviously the preparation starts in year 7 and works up the school to ensure every student realises their full potential Best wishes, 6th Form Parents’ Evening Parents of students in Years 12 and 13 are invited to the 6th Form Parents’ Evening on: Tuesday 10th February 2015 The evening will commence at 4pm and finish at 6.45pm. I look forward to seeing you. We took part in an hour experience cycling at the Velodrome, instructed by professional cycling instructors. The first group took to their bikes at 10am; a couple of tumbles on the bikes to start, but we won’t mention any names! Mr Shorey joined the second group at 11am; we were all hoping that Mr Shorey would take a little tumble, but he did very well and managed to stay on his bike throughout. All the students did exceptionally well. The Velodrome has high sides in which you are expected to cycle up; we were all very impressed with the achievements of the students on the bikes. Following this, we walked through the park to the Copper Box and watched the London Lions Basketball Team training, a short walk across to the Swimming Pool, passing the Orbit sculpture. We were able to go into the swimming pool and take a look at the facilities. There will be another trip to the Velodrome organised for the summer term. If this is something you would like to take part in, look out for the posters. Students that attended the trip: Abdulaziz Abdulkadir Muhammed Afzal Nahim Azad Jack Bannister Grace Bazunu Gurtej Bhandal Sandra Cerepokaite Mark Codling Ravithu Dharamaratne Liam Graham Hasan Gulzaib Edgar Ivkovs Rivaldas Karuzas Warren Kayembe Vumani Kutana Bethany Lamacq Muhammed Malik Paul Merry Hamza Mohsin Kadija Muridi Mrs Irving, Mr Shorey and Mr Taylor Dragos Niculae Omar Rashid Gurpreet Singh Muhammed Soomro Kenny Arda Deivydas Budrys On Saturday 17th January, Ahmed Abdulle (Year 11) took part in the Essex Schools Cross Country Championships at Hillyfields in Colchester. Ahmed finished in second position, securing him a place on the Essex County Team for the Schools Southern County team on 31st January in Surrey and the English Schools Championship in Blackburn on 14th March 2015.
