NATIONAL DAY
My Childhood
Raya Days
Every year, the Management & Staff of IOI Mall Bandar Putra
celebrate Hari Raya with some of the orphans of our local Kulaijaya
community. This year, the dinner was held at La Grandeur Palm
Resort Johor on the 29th August 2013. Guests were treated with
delicious buffet spread.
Children were presented with Duit Raya and goodie bags by the
Management of IOI Mall.
The mascot of Buzzy Bees was there to entertain and join in the
photo sessions with the kids.
The theme for the night was “My Raya Childhood Days”. There was
an exhibition on popular games played during childhood. Guests
were invited to relive their childhood days and had a memorable night
playing some of these games.
The children played the exciting games and had lots of fun.

SONG
COMPETITION
The Patriotic Song Competition (Pertandingan
Menyanyi Lagu-lagu Patriotik) was held on the
afternoon of 17th August 2013.
A total of 18 participants registered for the singing
competition which was held at the mall’s centre atrium
stage. The experienced judges were deejays of Best
on 4 Radio Station.

CONGKAK
The word “Congkak” is believed to originate from the Malay
word “Congak” which means mental calculation. In order to
win, players must be quick in calculation to maximize points
collection before making their move.
BATU SEREMBAN
Usually played by girls using 5-stones or pouches. The
objective of the game is to throw one stone at a time and
pick-up another on the floor simultaneously catching the
one you threw earlier on. The Merdeka Fancy Dress Competition which was
held on the same day had 13 participants who dressed
their patriotic best in various costumes. In their hands
were the symbol of our beloved country, the Jalur
Gemilang.
Mdm Pushpa Ranee from the Beauty and Makeup
Academy and Kluang School teacher, Ms Chandini,
were invited to judge the event. Participants catwalked
on the stage with poise and elegance, showing off the
creativity and skill of their fashion designers who also
sewed their costumes.

The Spooky Fancy Dress Competition was held
on 27th October 2013 to mark Halloween Day.
Dressed up as ghosts and ghouls, adults and
children had a spook-tacular time haunting IOI
Mall. There were 16 participants and they were
divided into two categories – adult (aged 13
years old and above) and children (aged 12 years
old and below).

A COMMUNITY EVENT TO CELEBRATE
NATIONAL DAY AND KEEP CULTURAL TRADITIONS ALIVE
The Lantern-making Contest, held during the Mid-autumn Festival, is
an annual event for IOI Mall Bandar Putra. The objective of this
competition is to inspire creativity and to keep the tradition of
handicraft-making alive. This year’s theme is to make lanterns from
recycled items. The month-long contest started on 1st August 2013
and ended on 8th September 2013.
Participants included shoppers and those who came specially for it
with their own colourful lanterns of different shapes and sizes. The
organiser, IOI Mall, also prepared free paper lanterns for everyone.
The parade ended at about 9 pm and participants hung around the
main entrance of IOI Mall to watch the entertaining programmes
prepared for them by the organisers.
Lew Lam Fat and Tan Poh Koon took home the first and second
prizes respectively. Ho Chin Choy emerged as the third-prize winner.
The winning entries were picked by knowledgeable judges headed
by Mr Yee of Persatuan Wushu, Naga & Singa Long Yi Kulai.
Amongst the performance held were a dance performance by
Southern College, Johor Bahru; a lion and dragon dance; tae kwan
do display; Chinese yo-yo performance, FMC hot dance and a live
band performance by MSK.
The winners received trophies and cash prizes from Yang Berhormat
Ms Teo Nie Ching, Kulaijaya’s Member of Parliament on 8th
September 2013 during the mall’s Lantern Parade Celebrations.
The Lantern Parade succeeded to bring the community of Bandar
Putra and its surrounding areas together to preserve the cultural
heritage of Malaysians.
Ms Teo Nie Ching was the distinguished guest to officiate the 2013
Mid-autumn Festival Lantern Parade. She was accompanied by Mr
Simon Heng, Senior General Manager of IOI Properties Berhad Johor
and Mr Alex Gwee, IOI Mall’s Complex Manager who were present to
lend support to this community get-together event.

The Singapore Korean Bankers Association held a golf competition amongst its own members on 26th October 2013 at the IOI and Palm

Tadika Cahaya Bandar Putra held its graduation concert at the IOI
Ballroom on the evening of 26th October 2013. Around 200 people
turned up to witness the annual concert put up by preschoolers.
Tadika Fonetik held its graduation cum annual concert on the
afternoon of 27th October 2013. The talented students gave their
very best performances to the 300 people who attended the
concert.

IOI MALL BANDAR PUTRA
LAUNCHED i-CUBIC
IOI Mall Bandar Putra launched its new retail area, i-Cubic, on 15th
September 2013. Situated on the first floor of the mall, the area
covers 8,000 sq. ft. It features 26 new retail outlets selling trendy
clothes, fashion accessories, knick-knacks and gadgets that appeal
to today’s youngsters.
The contemporary and vibrant interior concept of the area is a
sure-attraction to teenagers and young adults. The entrance of
i-Cubic features furniture made from recycled materials.
There are also diagrams showing how to recycle items into furniture.
This creative showcase is the effort of students from the Faculty of
Art & Design, Southern College University. The recycled materials
came from members of the public who took the initiative to drop
these recyclable materials at the IOI Mall drop bin counter.
The i-Cubic launch attracted a young crowd. Teenagers were seen
happily posing with characters from Manga, animes and video
games at the Cosplay section. There were also lively dance
performances and a flashmob performance by De Crozs.

On 22nd September 2013, residents of Tropics held their first meeting
to establish a Resident Association. The meeting was co-organised
by IOI Properties Berhad. Held at the Tropics Basketball Court &
Playground Area, the meeting started punctually at 9 am.
The meeting was attended by 46 residents of Tropics who voted for
their committee members. Madam Ratha was selected as Chairman
of the Tropics Resident Association while En. Jairuddin Bin Hadjilani
and Mr Tan Ta Chen were selected as the Secretary and Treasurer
respectively. Ten other residents were selected as working
committee members.
The objective of the Tropics Resident Association is to foster closer
ties amongst its members and enable them to work closely as
neighbours in ensuring security as well as maintaining the cleanliness
and comfort of the Tropics residential area.
Chaired by IOI Properties Berhad (Bandar Putra) Maintenance
Manager, En. Mohd Jafery Bin Musa, the meeting ended at around
10 am. Those who attended were treated to simple refreshment.
Pada 22 September 2013 yang lalu, penduduk Tropics mengadakan
mesyuarat pertama Pertubuhan Ahli Jawatankuasa Persatuan
Penduduk Tropics dengan kerjasama IOI Properties Berhad.
Mesyuarat tersebut diadakan di Kawasan Bola Keranjang dan acara
bermula tepat pada 9 pagi.
Mesyuarat pertama Pertubuhan Ahli Jawatankuasa Persatuan
Penduduk Tropics ini dipengerusikan oleh Pengurus Penyelenggaraan
IOI Properties Berhad, En. Mohd Jafery Bin Musa dan dihadiri
seramai 46 orang penduduk Tropics.
Tujuan mesyuarat ini diadakan bertujuan untuk melantik Ahli
Jawatankuasa bagi Persatuan Penduduk Tropics sekaligus para
penduduk dapat berkenalan antara satu sama lain dan secara tidak
langsung dapat mengeratkan hubungan kejiranan di antara
penduduk Tropics.
Di dalam mesyuarat ini, beberapa nama telah dipilih oleh para
penduduk Tropics dan mereka sebulat suara telah melantik Puan
Ratha a/p Nithiyanathan sebagai Pengerusi Persatuan Penduduk
Tropics. Manakala, En. Jairuddin Bin Hadjilani sebagai Setiausaha
dan En. Tan Ta Chen sebagai Bendahari. Mesyuarat tamat kira-kira
jam 10 pagi dan diakhiri dengan jamuan ringkas.
