IOIPG builds shopping malls, retail complexes and purpose-built office buildings
to complement its township developments which further bring value-add to its
customers. The newly opened IOI City Mall at IOI Resort City, Puchong Financial
Commercial Centre (PFCC) and IOI Boulevard at its two Puchong townships are
among the prime assets that IOIPG built to enhance its property investment portfolio.
In this Cover Feature, we would like to give our readers an insight into property
investment, one of the three core business segments of IOIPG.
Recently, IOIPG clinched one of the most coveted awards in the Asian building and
design industry, the BCI Asia Top 10 Developers Award 2015 while one of its
residential developments, the Skyz Residence condominium project, won the Highly
Commended: Residential Landscape Architecture Malaysia award at the Asia
Pacific Property Awards 2015-2016.
On the corporate front, IOI Corporation Berhad (IOIC) emerged as one of Asia’s best
managed companies in the Finance Asia’s Best Managed Companies poll this
year. IOIC also topped the Best Managed Public Companies category and the Best
Corporate Governance category. These awards carry the affirmative endorsement of
key market analysts and fund managers at leading banks and research houses in Asia.
The success of IOI lies in the fundamentals of our Vision IOI and the basis of our
IOI Core Values, which were first introduced 20 years ago. In June this year, IOI

Since forging its own path as a separate listed entity early 2014, IOI Properties Group Bhd (IOIPG) has chalked
up numerous accolades and milestones in its journey towards achieving its vision. Its visionary track record has
further spurred the Group to launch successive townships and innovative developments.
I
n addition to being consistently ranked highly among the
largest property players in Malaysia, IOIPG is also one of the
few integrated property companies that builds as well as manages
investment properties such as shopping malls, hotels and office
buildings. It is renowned for its prowess in property development
and success in building thriving self-contained townships, notably
turning once-backwater Puchong into the commercial success it
is today. However, unbeknownst to many, IOIPG’s success today is
leveraged on a solid footing encompassing several core business
components – property development, property investment, and
leisure and hospitality.
IOIPG Chief Operating Officer (Property Investment) Mr Cheah
Wing Choong took time off his busy schedule to give an insight into
the world of property investment and how this integral component
elevates the profile of the company.
A VIEW ON PROPERTY INVESTMENT:
STRATEGIC APPROACH
Mr Cheah began the interview by describing the meaning of
property investment, “We build, keep and manage the buildings,
otherwise known as investment assets, for capital appreciation and
sustainable yields”. To date, IOIPG’s property investment portfolio
comprises retail, hotel and office space totalling approximately
4.5 million square feet of net lettable space (NLA). Among its
principal investment properties are IOI City Mall (in IOI Resort City,
Putrajaya), IOI Malls (in Puchong, Selangor and Kulai, Johor Bahru),
One and Two IOI Square (in IOI Resort City, Putrajaya), Puchong
Financial Corporate Centre (PFCC) and IOI Boulevard in Puchong,
Selangor.
These towering blocks at IOI Resort City inter-connect One IOI Square, Two IOI
Square where IOI Group is headquartered, and the five-star Putrajaya Marriott
Hotel.
To complement its township developments, IOIPG builds shopping
malls, retail complexes and purpose-built office buildings which
bring value-add to its customers. IOIPG has a superior track record
in managing these prime assets which it develops and owns, a
fact which perfectly complements its philosophy in offering selfcontained townships that aptly meets the community’s lifestyle and
business needs. This differentiating factor sets IOIPG apart from
its industry peers. Its strategic approach to develop an investment
portfolio to retain ownership and control of the buildings
transformed IOIPG into an integrated property player as opposed
to being a pure property developer.

“Property investment plays a strategic role to the property
development division,” said Mr Cheah as the former’s interests are
focused primarily in IOIPG’s townships to bring greater value for
its customers. Its ownership control over the investment assets
allows IOIPG to have control over the tenant mix. However, with
this build-and-keep concept, the onus is on IOIPG to ensure assets
are properly managed so they remain good yielding properties with
high capital appreciation.

The interconnected 1.5 million square feet IOI City Mall and the
soon-to-be-completed IOI City Towers will welcome five-star hotel,
Le Meridien Putrajaya, which is due to open by end of 2015. All
these components are integrated, making IOI Resort City an ideal
hub for work and leisure under one roof.
Synergies between these existing components are apparent as IOIPG
master-planned shopping malls, retail complexes and purpose-built
office buildings alongside its township developments. As these
townships continue to mature and thrive, IOIPG’s investment
portfolio will see a marked enhancement from the development of
more upmarket properties and higher rental yields.
Hallmark buildings such as Puchong Financial Corporate Centre (PFCC), along
with IOI Mall Puchong, IOI Business Park and IOI Boulevard form the commercial
heartbeat of Puchong.
The complementary partnership makes financial sense as well.
Property development is susceptible to economic fundamentals
due to its cyclical nature which may potentially impact the
company’s bottom line, while stable recurring income derived
from its property investment assets helps to strengthen the balance
sheet. In short, rental yield generates cash flow needed to cushion
the challenging effect resulting from a slow property sales market.
INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENTS
A key advantage of IOIPG’s investment assets is that they are
located within integrated developments. “Tenants today prefer to
be in integrated developments versus standalone buildings where
other amenities are within reach," said Mr Cheah.
A prime example is the master planned IOI Resort City with a worldclass shopping mall, residences, office buildings, award winning
Palm Garden Golf Club, two hotels – Putrajaya Marriott Hotel and
Palm Garden Hotel – and other upcoming developments across 320
acres of picturesque landscape in Putrajaya.
The Green Building Index-certified IOI City Towers comprises two 31-storeys
Grade A offices with one million square feet of total net lettable area (NLA).
OFFICE
Currently facing a tough office market with an office supply glut in
Klang Valley, Mr Cheah said, “We need to tap into the right market
and be competitive to attract tenants. We are pleased to note that
multinational companies (MNCs) have rented office space in PFCC
which comprises four office towers and a premier business hotel,
Four Points by Sheraton Puchong.”
The excellent information technology (IT) infrastructure, Grade A
office building features and Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status
have made it to be an attractive business centre for these MNCs
looking to set up their base in Malaysia. The upcoming LRT station
opposite PFCC with a linked covered bridge has further enhanced
its appeal. Mr Cheah is optimistic that more MNCs will rent PFCC
as they appreciate its commercial value as an international grade
office.

The South Beach, IOIPG’s flagship project in Singapore, is set to
inject vibrancy in the domestic property sector with two blocks of
office towers, a 654-room hotel, premium retail space and luxury
residential units. Upon completion, South Beach will be one of the
preferred regional hubs for businesses. The office tower currently
enjoys more than 90% occupancy.
Four Points by Sheraton Puchong is the latest addition to IOIPG’s leisure and
hospitality portfolio.
IOIPG’s office towers and commercial areas are strategically-located
with the myriad of highways connecting them to the city centre.
“It is encouraging to see the suburban areas are drawing interest
from the increasingly congested Kuala Lumpur (KL) city centre.
Businesses are starting to consider alternative commercial address,
moving away from downtown KL to good suburban offices as they
offer more competitive rates and less traffic congestion,” Mr Cheah
opines.
HOTEL
IOIPG’s hotel sector is boosted by the recently opened 250-room
Four Points by Sheraton Puchong which Mr Cheah notes, has been
very well received with good occupancy. The hotel’s location within
a matured township, plus its close proximity to the industrial and
commercial entities, has made it a business hotel of choice within
Puchong.
The iconic South Beach project, jointly developed with City
Development Limited, will open its doors by end of this year
Over in Xiamen, PRC, IOIPG’s mega mixed development called IOI
Palm City is gathering strong interest from the Chinese property
investors. The 44-acre project encompasses a grand shopping mall,
boutique offices, a luxury hotel and high-rise residences.
These two notable developments will be proud additions into
IOIPG’s investment portfolio, generating healthy income revenue
for the Group in coming years.
On a similar note, IOIPG’s five-star Putrajaya Marriott Hotel and Palm
Garden Hotel are very well-occupied by both the institutions as
well as corporations hosting numerous MICE (meetings, incentives,
conferences, and exhibitions) functions.
RETAIL
The recently completed IOI City Mall is currently IOIPG’s flagship
retail mall. Since its opening in November 2014, it has seen a high
traffic flow of shoppers within the radius of Klang Valley, Selangor
and right up to Seremban thus positioning it as a popular regional
mall. Mr Cheah added, “With IOI City Mall enjoying occupancy of
more than 90% and IOI Mall Puchong’s occupancy of up to 98%,
these malls are providing IOIPG with a steady yield.”
REGIONAL INVESTMENT PROPERTIES
IOIPG’s collection of retail and office spaces has been commended
repeatedly for their superior value and quality, thus spurring the
Group to expand its investment portfolio to also include the
regional market in Singapore and Xiamen, the People’s Republic of
China (PRC).

With these established assets, IOIPG will be able to enjoy a steady
stream of rental income and yield in the coming years. Coupled
with the upcoming completion of IOI City Towers, South Beach and
IOI Palm City, exciting times are ahead for IOIPG and its Property
Investment division.
Undoubtedly, IOIPG’s property investment portfolio is extensive
and will continue to grow in size and value as it expands its
horizons to build more of such properties. The future is looking
bright indeed.

Q3 Earnings for
IOIC and IOIPG
IOI
Corporation Berhad (IOIC) posted a profit before
interest and taxation (PBIT) of RM298.9 million
for the third quarter (Q3) ended 31 March 2015 as compared to
RM480.9 million a year ago.The 38% decrease in PBIT is due mainly
to lower contribution from both plantation and resource-based
manufacturing divisions.
The plantation division’s Q3 FY2015 profit decreased by 37% to
RM191.8 million from RM306.8 million due mainly to lower fresh
fruit bunches (FFB) production during the seasonal low crop
period as well as lower crude palm oil (CPO) price realised. Average
CPO price realised was RM2,247/MT against RM2,602/MT in Q3
FY2014. As for the resource-based manufacturing division, its profit
of RM102.9 million for Q3 FY2015 is 50% lower than RM205.2
million reported for Q3 FY2014. The lower manufacturing profit
is mainly due to lower margin from the specialty oils and fats and
the refinery sub-segments as well as lower sales volume from the
refinery sub-segment.
Property development recorded higher sales of properties in
Klang Valley especially in the commercial properties sub-segment,
while property investment saw higher contribution from the retail
segment. Leisure and hospitality benefited from new business
operations such as Four Points by Sheraton Puchong, District21 and
Icescape Ice Rink at IOI City Mall that have commenced business
towards end of Q2 FY2015. In addition, its existing hotel business in
IOI Resort City has also picked up in the current quarter.
Meanwhile, IOI Properties Group Berhad (IOIPG) recorded an
operating profit of RM146.9 million in its Q3 ended 31 March
2015 which is 40% higher than Q3 FY2014. Its revenue also went
up 28% to RM468.4 million in this current quarter. The increase Going forward, IOIC and IOIPG expect to perform satisfactorily for

Corporation Berhad (IOIC) was named as
one of Asia’s best managed companies in a
compilation published by Finance Asia on 20 March 2015.
In the Malaysian edition, IOIC came in fifth in the Best
Managed Public Companies category and ranked fourth
in Best Corporate Governance category.
This is the 15th year Finance Asia has polled investors on
listed companies throughout Asia that are considered the
best managed, with best senior executives and the best
policies around dividend payments and other matters.
The premier financial publication received responses from over 250
portfolio managers and buy-side analysts from around the world who run mandates that
included, or were dedicated to, Asian listed companies. Finance Asia also released the list
of best managed companies in India, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.

TRAINEES
S
uccession Planning is crucial to the sustainability of any
organisation. Every year, IOI Group’s plantation division recruits
a team of future Assistant Managers for its estates through the Cadet
Assistant Trainee programme.
The first batch of Cadet Assistant Trainees for this year kicked off
at Paya Lang Club House in Johor on 20 April 2015. From now till
25 June 2015, these 26 trainees will undergo a 10-week structured
training comprising three weeks of classroom learning and
remaining weeks out in the field getting first-hand experience of
the job’s tasks.

Sinnappan started his presentations titled “Towards a Successful
Career as a Planter”, “The Plantation Industry in Malaysia” and
“Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP) – Professional Association
for Planters”.

The training is a good platform for the trainees to acquire
comprehensive understanding of the basic principles, concepts and
practices of plantation operations management. Towards the end
of the programme, there will be a written test and post-interview
session to determine those who qualify as Cadet Assistants.

EMERGENCY
In summary, the training provided a golden opportunity for the
participants to enhance their knowledge and understanding
emergency response.
W
hen disaster strikes, the time to prepare has passed. With
this in mind, Gomali Palm Oil Mill in Johor successfully
conducted an Emergency Response Team (ERT) Training with
Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Segamat at its premise on 10 May, 17
May and 24 May 2015.
The three-day ERT training, one of the requirements for Fire Safety
Certificate, was attended by 30 participants from Gomali Palm
Oil Mill, Paya Lang Estate and Gomali Estate as well as the latter’s
hospital assistant. Through classroom lectures and fire drill, the
participants gained valuable knowledge on the proper procedures
to handle emergency cases in the workplace. The training also
included practical activities such as kawad menyelamat dalam
runtuhan bangunan (evacuation/rescue from collapsed building)
and kawad hos (hose drill).

VISIT SABAH’S
PAMOL ESTATES

O
n 2 March 2015, a group of eight officers and researchers
from WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Germany and Eberswalde
University for Sustainable Development visited IOI’s Pamol Group
of Estates – Meliau, Nangoh and Bayok. Several WWF Malaysia
officers accompanied the German visitors on the trip to Sabah.
The visitor were much impressed by the natural beauty of these
conservation areas, which are home to exotic animals such as the
proboscis monkeys and sambar deer.
The purpose of this visit was to undertake an exploratory field
visit to the oil palm plantations and adjacent forest reserves. Both
WWF and the university are collaborating on a joint project which
aims to assess the actual ecological impacts on-site in relation to
the effectiveness of Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)
and International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC)
sustainability standards for biofuels.
Apart from the rich fauna, the areas also showcased the natural
state of the riparian vegetation comprising many species of
indigenous trees and shrubs. These are vital to maintain a healthy
ecosystem.
The visit proved to be fruitful for their joint project as they gained
valuable experience and knowledge of IOI Group’s conservation
effort as part of its sustainability initiative.
The team visited the buffer zones at Meliau Estate which is adjacent
to Ulu Tungud forest reserve and went to the Sungai Paliau riparian
reserve at Nangoh Estate as well as Bayok Estate’s Ox Bow Lake.

BASED-LEADERSHIP
Leadership can be defined in many ways; while some agree that
leadership is an intrinsic trait, there are others who find the art
of leadership a learned skill.
E
arlier this January, a team of Senior Management and Managers from
various departments of Plantation and Corporate divisions attended
the "Strengths-based Leadership" workshop held at the Putrajaya
Marriott Hotel, while IOI Properties Group Berhad's (IOIPG) Senior
Management team attended in March. It was a full-day interactive
workshop designed to introduce participants to Strengths-based
Leadership approach facilitated by Mr Joseph Tan, the first Gallupcertified strengths coach in Malaysia.
Strengths-based Leadership is based upon Gallup’s Clifton
StrengthsFinder tool which helps to discover the participants’
signature intrinsic Strengths Profile. The latest scientific research on
high performance introduces the importance of self-knowledge as a
basis for effective management of performance. It focuses on strengths,
finds ways to improve the way the participants work and clarify their
values, thus allowing them to make the greatest contribution to the
organisation.

discussed ways on how to leverage on their strengths and
manage their weaknesses. The Senior Management team
picked up the know-how on developing a strengths-based
team culture in a more engaged and productive team.
The workshop also helped the participants to find the right
fit at work and utilise reporting tool in coaching their team
members by identifying their strengths and optimising each
employee.
The participants also took part in activities and were presented
with videos which illustrated the four leadership domains:
•Executing – “I know how to make things happen.”
•Influencing – “I know how to reach a much broader
audience.”
•Relationship-building – “I know how to hold a team
together.”
•Strategic thinking – “I know how to keep the group
focused.”
The workshop ended with a more detailed insight into feedback
and observations from both participants and the trainer.
Prior to the workshop, the participants completed an online Clifton
StrengthsFinder assessment that portrayed their top strengths. During
the training, the participants analysed their strengths reports and

MAKING CHANGE HAPPEN
C
hange can be painful, disruptive and costly. If given a choice, most
people would resist any change to their status quo and this is a
challenge faced by many organisations in getting people to embrace
change.The fear surfaces when there is lack of understanding on the
need for change and no prior experience in handling the transition
to change.
A two-pronged approach involving the individual and the organisation
is needed for change to happen. As the individual understands the
need for change and be motivated to change, the organisation must
provide the external push factor to make the change conducive.
Each individual has an emotional need, and these emotional
drivers vary in importance from one individual to another. The
ranking of these drivers can change with time, and influenced by

n 13 June 2015, more than 250 people comprising the employees
of IOI Properties Group Berhad (IOIPG) in Johor Bahru and
family members made their way to the MyIOI Family Day 2015.
Everyone arrived in high spirits and the children were excited to
begin the fun-filled outdoor activities!
Round and round the musical chair…don’t let the music stop.
The event kicked off at 7:30 am with a line-up of exciting games for all age
groups such as Musical Chairs, Ping Pong Ball Relay and highlight of the day,
the Tug-of-war battle. It was heartening to see the participants enjoying the
games while displaying high level of sportsmanship as they cheered on the
winners and encouraged some of their colleagues who faltered during the
competitive rounds.
The children enjoyed the arts and craft activities while being entertained
by balloon-sculpting clown and “Patrick Star” from SpongeBob
SquarePants.
Whoops of joy erupted when the overall champion was
announced – the winning Green Team with representatives
from four divisions (Maintenance, Contract, Security and
Customer Service Unit). Assistant General Manager (Sales
& Marketing) Mr Kelvin Tang presented the trophies and
prizes during the prize giving ceremony.The event ended

2015 (MAPEX 2015) by Johor Real Estate and Housing Developer
Association (REHDA) was a platform for property developers to
showcase their projects, progress and prowess at transforming
Iskandar Malaysia into a sustainable metropolis of international
standing. The property expo was held from 22 to 24 May 2015 at
City Square, Johor Bahru.
IOI Properties Group Berhad (IOIPG) was among the most

A team from Byram Holdings Pte Ltd visited
IOI Pan-Cen next. The company purchases
translucent soap noodles from IOI Pan-Cen
with a monthly off-take of approximately 200
MT to supply its finishing line in India. Its
parent company, Byram Group, was launched in
Singapore as an export-import and direct sales
company for health and home care products
with diversifications in other businesses as well.
SAFE HANDLING OF CHEMICALS
This mitigates the risk of accidents occuring in the
workplace, thus providing a safe and healthy working
environment.
On 14 April 2015, IOI Pan-Century Oleochemicals
Sdn Bhd (IOI Pan-Cen) organised a briefing on CLASS
2013 Safety Data Sheet by AmCen Lab Sdn Bhd for
25 production, laboratory and store personnel who
frequently handle chemicals in their daily routine. Eleven
vendors from the chemicals industry also joined the
briefing.

he CLASS Regulations, promulgated under the Occupational Safety and
Health Act 1994 (Act 514), stands for Classification, Labelling and Safety
Data Sheet of Hazardous Chemicals (CLASS) Regulations 2013 (which is
commonly known as CLASS Regulations 2013). The regulations ensure that
suppliers of hazardous chemicals provide sufficient information on hazards of
chemicals that they supply.
The briefing helped the participants to understand the
legal aspect and implementation of CLASS13 regulations.
They also benefited from presentations on topics such
as Globally Harmonised System of Classification and
Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), Industry Code of Practice,
and Chemical Information Management System (CIMS).

aising awareness on blood donation is important as many fail to realise how
easy it is to donate blood, and more importantly, how precious each drop is
to the person in dire need of a life-saving surgery or blood transfusion.
On 23 May 2015, IOI Pan-Century Oleochemicals Sdn Bhd (IOI Pan-Cen)
organised its sixth consecutive “Blood Donation Drive” held concurrently at
its premise and Tesco Bandar Seri Alam to aid the National Blood Bank. IOI PanCen collaborated with Tesco, Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru and Hospital
Sultan Ismail Johor Bahru for this year’s noble campaign, which successfully
attracted 229 able donors, an increase from 216 able donors previously.
The annual blood donation drive to raise public awareness on blood donation is
part of IOI Pan-Cen’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in support
of the community’s needs.

and presented them with goodie bags and good wishes. One has
passed away, while the other two were medically boarded out
several years ago. The ex-employees and family members were
happy to receive the visitors and thanked them for the kind
gesture. Many good memories were rekindled during the visit.

CAMPAIGN AT IOI OLEO
W
ith the aim of creating a healthy and happy workforce, IOI
Oleochemical Industries Berhad (IOI Oleo) in Prai organised a
series of health talks and free basic health screening to equip its
employees with crucial healthcare information.
The health talks kicked off in April 2015 and will be held throughout
the year in collaboration with medical consultants from KPJ Hospital
Penang and IOI Oleo’s Community Services Committee. Among the
topics covered centred on heart diseases, varicose veins, sleep apnea
and hypertension, obesity, and stress management.
Meanwhile, approximately 140 employees benefited from the
health screening session conducted by Hospital Seberang Jaya
as they checked their cholesterol and blood glucose levels,
hypertension prevention trail (HPT) as well as body mass
index (BMI) figures. Female employees underwent pap smear
and breast examinations while those aged above 40 were given
letters for free mammogram at selected hospitals. The staff
nurses also explained the test results to each employee and
provided healthcare advice.
The health talks provided a reliable avenue for employees to get
healthcare tips and information.

O
n 28 May 2015, IOI Loders Croklaan (IOILC) celebrated a
big day – the company’s 125th anniversary! The Loders
company was founded in 1890 in the United Kingdom while
Crok & Laan began a year later in The Netherlands. In 1972,
these two companies merged to form “Loders & Croklaan”.
After joining IOI Group in 2002, the company is now named
IOI Loders Croklaan.
The grand anniversary was celebrated on the premise of
Wormerveer refinery, the oldest existing production site in
IOILC. Manufacturing Director Mr Paul Koekoek opened the
event with a speech commemorating the challenges that IOILC
had to overcome to be the successful company it is today. He
also delivered best wishes from the Dutch Prime Minister Mr
Mark Rutte, who actually started his professional career in
IOILC.

customer satisfaction via an online survey. The contact
persons of its key customers were asked to rate IOILC’s
performance on a scale from one to 10 and provide feedback for
further improvement. This year’s survey resulted in the highest
marks thus far – scoring an impressive 8.4!
In recent years, IOILC has worked hard to improve its performance

Loders Croklaan (IOILC) recently published its first
“Sustainability Progress Report” covering the
period from January to May 2015. This report outlines IOILC’s
progress and challenges as it builds a sustainable and transparent
palm oil supply chain. It is published thrice a year.
IOILC’s sustainability efforts are guided by its Sustainable Palm Oil
Policy and three-step time-bound plan consisting of knowing the
origin of the oil, prioritising mills, and executing on-site verification
programme.
The highlights of this report are:
• 96% of its palm oil is traceable to mill level.
• 35% of its palm oil sourced is certified by the Roundtable
on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and traceable to mill and
plantation level.
• The remote sensing analysis is completed on 80 out of 143
mills (from which IOILC directly sources palm oil).

2015 in Chicago. The focus for this year’s global meeting was twofold, centring on “FY2016 Business Planning and Alignment” and
“Achieving Vision 2025”.

“OPPOSITES ATTRACT”
IN CREATIVE STUDIO
T
his spring, the Creative Studio in IOILC Europe introduced a
new workshop named “Opposites Attract” and within the
first week, it had successfully attracted three groups of customers
from all over Europe who are keen to attend the workshop.
The focus for this workshop is the creation of emulsions – a
marriage between fat and water in chocolate confectionery and
fine bakery fillings. Consumers want to indulge in chocolates and
desserts but at the same time, they are concerned of the calorie
intake. By adding water to the recipe, it lowers the energy value
and gives the opportunity to create different eating sensations in
new products.
The “marriage” between fat and water needs expert guidance.
During the workshop, the Creative Studio technical experts
explained the process of successfully joining these “opposites” in a
recipe to create stable and long lasting bakery treats.
Several upcoming “Opposites Attract” workshops that are almost
fully booked will be held after the summer – indicating that this
subject is highly relevant for the European food manufacturers.

ed Nose Day is a campaign dedicated to raising money for children
and young people living in poverty by simply having fun and making
people laugh.The inaugural Red Nose Day was held in the United States
on 21 May 2015 where people across the country including actors,
comedians and musicians came together to have fun and raise funds and
awareness.

The funds raised during the natiowide campaign will be given
to 12 non-profit organisations that transform children's lives in
the U.S. and around the world.
IOI Loders Croklaan (IOILC) Americas in Channahon, Illinois donated
US$2,000 to this fundraising campaign hosted by Comic Relief, a nonprofit organisation. Staff had fun taking group photos with their red
noses, whereby visitors to Creative Studio were also encouraged to don
the red noses in honour of Red Nose Day!
CARING DAY
TO SERVE THE
COMMUNITY

n 22 May 2015, 16 employees from IOI Loders Croklaan
(IOILC) Americas volunteered in the annual Caring Day that
is dedicated to serving the local community. This year, volunteers
provided landscaping services to the Will Grundy Medical Clinic
in Illinois.
The day was spent pulling weeds, planting flowers and shrubs,
and relocating a few flower bushes. Fresh mulch was then
added to the surrounding areas, uplifting the whole place with
this final touch. IOILC Americas donated the flowers, shrubs
and mulch to aid in the completion of this project.
The Will Grundy Medical Clinic promotes a healthy community
by providing free healthcare services to people in Will and
Grundy counties who are unable to receive medical and dental
care from other sources.

(IOILC) Asia held its Annual Dinner 2015 on 14 March at KSL
Resort in Johor Bahru. An opening dance signalled the start to the
fun-filled evening themed “Glitz & Glamour Night” as IOILC Asia Chief
Operating Officer (COO) Mr Michael van Sallandt welcomed everyone
in his opening speech.
Overall, it was a glitzy evening of glamourous fun, good food
and entertainment to cap off a memorable 10th anniversary
celebration!

n 1 April 2015, IOI Loders Croklaan (IOILC) Asia commenced the
“100 Days Safety Cultivating Campaign” to raise safety, health
and environment (SHE) awareness among its employees. It was launched
by IOILC Asia Chief Operating Officer Mr Michael van Sallandt and the
campaign’s committee members comprising the SHE department and SHE
committee, as well as the Safety Management Team (SMT).
From April to July, IOILC Asia’s staff will be attending a series of safety
awareness activities which include safety poster competition, safety talk,
firefighting competition, blood donation, first aid training, Permit to Work
(PTW) competition and “I See I Act (ICIA) Notification” competition. A
variety of information and resources will also be provided to help employees
stay safe in the workplace.
“Staff safety is always our number one priority, and we encourage workers
and staff to not underestimate any risk in the workplace. Management
provides an excellent system to ensure workers' wellness; hence we shall be
constantly aware and responsible to avoid any shortcut. Let’s work together
towards a safer workplace environment for all!” said Mr Sallandt.
The Campaign reinforces the Health and Safety rules and guidelines, relevant
key performance indicators, job-safe practice training and preventive
campaigns that are conducted regularly at IOILC Asia.

n April and May 2015, IOI Loders Croklaan (IOILC) Asia
organised two tailor-made Creative Studio workshops
catering to existing customers who were interested in
gaining new ideas for their product innovations.
The two-day workshops covered versatile confectionery and bakery
applications which were then transformed to industrial fit products.
Excited participants enjoyed innovating creations with their hands while
experiencing new coatings and fillings.

team introduced the participants to low-trans fats and heatresistant chocolate, truffle, bake-stable filling in cookies,
sponge cake using emulsifier shortening, soft chocolate

SAFETY CAMPAIGN WEEK 2015
In addition, the blood donation and organ donation campaigns
resulted in 74 pints of blood being donated and 73 newly-pledged
organ donors. The staff also attended health talks and HIV/AIDS
awareness talks with free blood tests consisting of HIV screening,
cholesterol and blood glucose levels.
The Safety Campaign Week concluded with presentation of prizes
to the SHE-related activities’ winners.

Edible Oils (IOIEO) held its annual safety week as
part of its commitment to promote safety, health
and environment (SHE) awareness to its employees. The "Safety
Campaign Week" kicked off on 23 March 2015 with SHE-related
activities such as safety quiz, gotong-royong and dental care.
Staff participated in an emergency mock fire drill in the biomass plant
(fibre warehouse) aided by IOIEO’s first aid team and emergency
response team (ERT), Bomba Sandakan, Duchess of Kent Hospital,
police and civil defence department. The drill’s post-mortem
highlighted areas for improvement but the overall report was good.

ust as Hari Raya brings families closer, this spirit of togetherness was
celebrated at IOI City Mall (ICM) as it welcomed Ramadan and Hari Raya
Aidilfitri with an array of traditional festive treats and entertainment from
26 June to 23 July 2015. Its Hari Raya theme showcased the rich tapestry of
Malayan culture, heritage and lifestyle to the shoppers.
The mall’s Centre Court invoked nolstagia with the setting up of a traditional
village home called “Rumah Panggung”. Its dwelling was built according to
the traditional Malayan concepts with simple funnel shapes and the use of
ventilation grilles at its gable ends (tebar layar), as well as ventilation joints to
allow good ventilation which cools the house effectively.

I
n the month of Ramadan, visitors to IOI Mall Puchong, especially
the children, were thrilled to do their Hari Raya shopping and catch
local animation hero BoBoiBoy and friends in action.
The “SupeRAYA bersama (with) Superhero BoBoiBoy”
campaign was launched on 26 June 2015 in conjunction with the
upcoming festive celebration. The event’s star were BoBoiBoy and
his friends Ying, Yaya and Gopal who made an appearance alongside
management personnel of IOI Properties Group Berhad (IOIPG) and
the mall.
The smiles on the underprivileged children’s faces made the
event more meaningful.
Children from Pusat Jagaan Baitul Hidayah were invited for the
ceremony where they were among the first to catch their favourite
cartoon characters and also received duit raya and goodie bags from
IOIPG Chief Operating Officer (Property Investment) Mr Cheah Wing
Choong.
Besides festive bargains, the younger shoppers also took part in
BoBoiBoy mascots’ meet-the-fans sessions, colouring, and public
screening of the popular Malaysian animated series on selected dates
and allocated times at the mall.

CHALLENGE KICKS OFF

asketball fans gathered at IOI Mall Puchong when it hosted the first
leg of “AND1 Streetball Challenge”, a three-on-three challenge, on
14 June 2015. Participants also took part in other side show events
such as Slam Dunk, Best Shooter and Streetball competitions.
The AND1 Streetball Challenge is a platform for
youngsters to hone their basketball skills, and
this year’s 12th edition attracted 313 teams
with more than 900 participants across
five categories – Boys Under-12, Boys
Under-15, Boys Under-18, Girls
Under-18 and Men’s Under-21.
The grand final will be held in
November in Kuala Lumpur.

Windmills of
Love for
Moms
I
n conjunction with Mother’s Day celebration, IOI Mall
Kulai organised “The Windmill Paper Curtain Project”
involving 300 students from six kindergartens in Bandar Putra
and Indahpura in Kulaijaya, Johor. This project enhanced the
children’s creative thinking, supporting the initiative to produce
well-rounded children who excel not only academically, but in
creative arts as well.
From 1 April till 30 April 2015, each participating student was
tasked to create two windmills and was then guided by step-bystep tutorials to craft 600 beautiful whirling paper windmills as
an expression of love and appreciation for their mothers.
IOI Mall Kulai also recorded a tribute video to mothers
comprising heart-warming interviews with the students and
teachers which were played during the mall’s Mother’s Day
celebration on 15 May 2015.

Mall Kulai collaborated with South Malaysia Street
Workout Crew Bar-Selatan for the “King of the
Bar Challenge 2015” held on 24 May 2015 in conjunction with
the National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. The competition
garnered strong interest from street workout enthusiasts from
Malaysia and Singapore. Street workout is a physical
activity performed mostly in outdoor parks or
public facilities.
Besides fostering strong friendship and
unity among youths, the competition
also aimed to promote street workout
to encourage them to lead an active
lifestyle. Participants were given
three minutes for each category to
demonstrate their agility in Max PushUp, Max Pull-Up, Max Dip and Freestyle.

SAYING “HELLO” TO MAULUD!
Both hotels dedicated the whole month of March to Earth Hour
and raising funds for the then-newborn tapir via sales of speciallydesigned Earth Hour t-shirts. During the visit, Putrajaya Marriott
Hotel Director of Operations Mr Henry Choong and Palm Garden
Hotel Marketing Communications Manager Ms Audrey Yap handed
over proceeds from the t-shirt sales to Zoology Director Dr Mat
Naim Hj Ramli, who received the RM5,000 contribution on behalf
of the zoo’s management.

n 16 June 2015, just two days prior to the start of Ramadan, the
teams at Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, Palm Garden Hotel and Palm
Garden Golf Club (PGGC) distributed bubur lambuk at selected toll
plazas located near IOI Resort City.
Five thousand containers of the delicious creamy rice porridge, a
traditional dish that is much sought-after for breaking fast during
the fasting month, were prepared by the two hotels and golf club’s
respective Executive Chefs using their own special recipes. Associates
from the hotels and PGGC were divided into groups and headed to
Hotel associates packing some of the 5,000 bubur lambuk
containers at the hotel’s kitchen.
While the road users were taken by surprise, they were equally
pleased to receive the bubur lambuk plus promotional flyers for
15% discount on buka puasa dinners at Putrajaya Marriott Hotel
and Palm Garden Hotel.
The event was a success thanks to the great team effort and
efficient coordination from everyone.

between Malaysia and China.

n 31 May 2015, Palm Garden Golf Club (PGGC) welcomed
VIPs and dignitaries for the “Tun Abdul Razak (TAR) Challenge
Trophy” – a Malaysia-China Friendly Golf Competition to
commemorate the political and economic relations between the
two countries. The tournament, named after the late second Prime
Minister of Malaysia, witnessed a total of 120 participants from
Malaysia and China including guests from the public and private
sectors.
Among the VIPs present were Malaysian Prime Minister YAB Datuk
Seri Najib Tun Razak, Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese
Embassy Mr Wu Zhengping and Malay Businessmen and Industrialist
Association of Malaysia (PERDASAMA) President Datuk Moehamad
Izat Emir.
“Bilateral relations between China and Malaysia are something
close to my heart. For it was my father, the late Tun Abdul Razak
who took the bold step 41 years ago as the first ASEAN nation
to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of
China," said Najib.
Acting Chairman of China Enterprises Association in Malaysia
Mr Li Zhongping echoed this sentiment as this competition
enhanced friendship among the people of the two nations on the
same exact date when Malaysia and China established diplomatic
ties on 31 May 1974.
The golf competition, which also raised funds for the Malaysia
Disaster Relief Fund, came to a close with the Prime Minister
presenting the challenge trophy to the defending champion,
Malaysia, during the prize presentation cum luncheon.

YAA RECIPIENTS

his year, a total of 75 students received the Young Achievers’
Awards (YAA) from Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng (Yayasan
TSLSC) totalling RM34,400 in cash prizes, plaques and certificates
in recognition of their excellent results in UPSR, PT3, O-Levels, SPM,
STPM, Matriculation Programme and A-Levels examinations.Awards
given also took into consideration the students’ active participation
in extra-curricular activities.

The students also drew inspiration from the success story of Ms
Choi Jean Yu, a Gold Award recipient in the A-Levels category. Even
though she could not differentiate between ears and nose at the
age of five, she is now realising her dream in becoming a doctor.
She credited her family and teachers as her pillars of support, and
her diligence in studies has paid off.
On 20 June 2015, an award presentation ceremony was held
for 13 recipients at Palm Garden Hotel. The event started with
the screening of IOI Group’s corporate video, followed by an
opening speech by IOI Corporation Berhad (IOIC) Chief Executive
Officer Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor. He acknowledged Yayasan TSLSC’s
commitment in motivating young students to strive for success
in life. In congratulating them, he gently reminded the students
to always be thankful for their parents' sacrifices and guidance in
supporting their educational journey.
Dato’ Lee also highlighted the importance of striving towards
excellence in everything we do.This value formed one of the seven
core values of IOI Group which was further emphasised during the
IOI Core Values video played later on. Students and parents gleaned
useful insights of the values and ethics governing the company’s
corporate environment.
Dato’ Lee then presented the YAA awards to recipients who did
well in their UPSR and PT3 examinations, while the rest received
their accolades from Yayasan TSLSC Executive Director Datin
Joanne Wong.
Ms Choi imparting wise advice to her fellow YAA recipients to continue on
their track to excellence.
After the award presentation, financial literacy trainer Mr Edward
Lee cum Director of MoneyTree Malaysia took the opportunity
to engage the students in an interactive and stimulating session
aimed at improving their financial knowledge.The students gained
financial tips and goals via games and inspirational story-sharing
during the hour-long session. It was an eye-opener experience for
the students and guided the parents towards a better financial
future for their children.
The award presentation ceremony ended with a delicious buffet
lunch at Palms Café. Congratulations to all YAA recipients!

YAYASAN TSLSC BRINGS CHILDREN ON
A FUN DAY OUT

O
n 13 June 2015, a total of 70 children from Rumah Amal
Limpahan Kasih (RALK) and Rumah Juara from Puchong
enjoyed a fun day of wholesome adventure and dinosaurs at IOI
City Mall (ICM) courtesy of Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng (Yayasan
TSLSC) as part of IOI Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
initiative.

While watching the guests having the time of their lives swinging,
jumping, climbing and running from one end to the other, Datin
Joanne said, “We hope today’s fun-filled outing will bring smiles to
the children and give them memorable experiences. It is exciting
for us to spend time with the children and to see them enjoying
themselves as much as we are of having them with us here today!”
Later, the residents were served lunch packs from The Chicken Rice
Shop and received goodie bags. The fun outing was capped off with
the much-anticipated movie screening of “Jurassic World” at Golden
Screen Cinemas. The movie experience was a first for some of the
children, and it was a real treat to be able to watch dinosaurs being
brought to life on the big screen!

The children, ranging from three to 22 years old, arrived with their
caregivers at 9:00 am in two chartered buses and were ushered to
the mall’s indoor action-themed adventure park, District21.Yayasan
TSLSC Executive Director Datin Joanne Wong and the team of
volunteers warmly welcomed the special guests.
After a safety briefing session by District21’s personnel, the younger
children were escorted to enjoy attractions such as the Train Ride,
Mini Cars and Carousel while the older ones took on challenging
games such as The Maze, GoPedal, Launch Pad,Tubby Ride and Low
Ropes.
Dinosaurs await this happy group of residents and Yayasan TSLSC volunteers!
Low Ropes trail requires effort and concentration from
the little ones as they make their way across the seven
obstacles.
The beneficiaries, RALK and Rumah Juara, are a safe haven for
orphans and the underprivileged as they grow in an environment
that enables them to be secure in their identity, strong in character,
and equipped with moral values and good social skills.
