Celebrating timeless Advent customs at Europe’s oldest restaurant
With the joyful time of Advent approaching, St Peter Stiftskeller in Salzburg looks forward to welcoming visitors
from all over the world to celebrate its St Mary Christmas. Reputedly Europe’s oldest restaurant with a history of
over 1200 years, this world gastronomic haven is located in Salzburg’s charming Altstadt – in the very heart of

Every Advent the Stiftskeller’s 500sqm ancient arcaded courtyard is transformed into an enchanted Christmas
forest, sumptuously decorated with 8000 baubles, 9km of light garlands, 200m of tinsel and 150 Christmas trees.
Visitors encounter the magical St Mary Christmas, filled with festive sounds and flavours – the irresistible scents
of cinnamon, gingerbread and baked apples mingle with the warming aroma of Salzburg’s best mulled wine,
while the gentle sounds of Leopoldskron – a wind instruments band playing daily at 6.15pm – bring a seasonal
spirit.
After savouring the unique atmosphere of the St Mary Christmas, enjoy seasonal delicacies in one of the
