Americans with Disabilities Act
Late Pick-Up Fee
South Suburban’s STAR Program supports the Americans
with Disabilities Act. Program participants are offered
general supervision. Specialized personal services
such as toileting, dressing or feeding are not provided.
However, participants who need these services may be
best served by providing their own aide or companion.
Qualified individuals with disabilities will be provided
with reasonable accommodations in order to participate
in programs. Call Carey Overstreet at 303-730-4608 for
further information. Classes are open to all as long as age
and skill requirements are met.”
If your ride arrives 10 minutes later than the designated
pick-up time, you will be charged $10 and an additional
$3 charge will be assessed for every 5 minutes after the
first charge. Consideration will be made for bad weather
or roads. Late fees are due and will be collected at the
time of pick-up. Staff will call you after ten minutes and if
staff is unable to reach your ride after thirty minutes, the
proper authorities will be notified.
Inclusion
Everyone gains from inclusion. Individuals gain
new Friendships, new recreation skills and a
better understanding of one another. Our goal
is to provide an environment where individuals
with disabilities come together with their peers
participating in any recreation class or activity that
South Suburban provides.
Code Of Conduct
Individuals are encouraged to act in a way that will not
hurt another person physically, mentally or emotionally.
A participant may be asked to withdraw from a class or
program if behavior does not comply with the facility and
program standards.
• Appropriate social behavior is required.
• Take direction from program staff.
• Refrain from using abusive or foul language.
• Refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other
participants, program staff or property.
In some cases, individuals with disabilities may
bring a friend or family member to assist the
participant in class. If this is not possible, a trained
volunteer or staff person may be provided.
• Refrain from tobacco use during any South
Suburban Program.
• Must stay with the group at all times.
If individuals need assistance to participate in a
program, or to choose a general recreation class,
call the STAR Program office at least three weeks
prior to the class start date to discuss possibilities.
Discipline
NOTE: You must notify your one-to-one inclusion
instructor 24 hours in advance if you will not be
attending your scheduled class, otherwise there
will be a $15 charge.
Program staff will discuss the Code of Conduct
withparticipants periodically throughout the program
session. A positive approach is used when disciplining
participants. If inappropriate behavior occurs, staff will
develop a solution specific to each situation as it arises.
If a participant’s behavior is detrimental to themselves or
others, a parent or guardian will be called and required
to pick-up the participant immediately. The STAR staff
reserves the right to dismiss a participant whose behavior
endangers themselves or others.
Drop-Off Policy
Classes and Trips are scheduled to start and end at the
times listed in the brochure. Please note we are not
responsible for participants prior to the start of programs
or once the program has ended. If a participant
uses Access-a-Ride, please communicate the pickup and drop-off times to staff, we will do our best to
accommodate you.
All programs are held at the Buck Center unless otherwise noted.
