for seriously ill children and their families.
Better Together... With You!
Research proves something we’ve known for years…that children recover better when their
families are nearby. It’s the same reason that leading hospitals, like Duke and WakeMed
Children’s Hospitals, practice family-centered care.
Thanks to donors like you, in 2013 the Ronald McDonald House was able to keep more families
together while dealing with the stress and challenges that accompany a very sick child. Whether
staying at the House or visiting one of our in-hospital Family Rooms, families received a loving
embrace in the form of a comfortable bed, a hot shower, a warm meal and a listening ear.
Most importantly, your support surrounded thousands of children with the love they needed while
feeling sick and facing scary treatments. Thank you!
In this first full year since the Ronald McDonald House of Durham was expanded, we provided
15,778 night stays – 71% more than in the previous year. We are so grateful for your gifts that
are sustaining a significantly larger House and supporting more than 45,000 visits to our Family
Rooms.
Looking ahead, our Board of Trustees has started working on a new strategic plan to guide our
path forward. As a part of this process, we are looking for ways to expand our support for seriously
ill children and their families. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and will keep you
informed.
