Vice-President: Betty Mangum
Secretary: JoAnne Hansz
"Created to promote sociability and friendship
Note from the President:
Hope you are all having a wonderful summer and doing everything you can to stay cool.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank JoAnne Hansz for volunteering to be our secretary. As you all know,
we have needed a secretary for several months so a great big THANK YOU to JOANNE!
Speaking of volunteers, several positions will be available for Act 2 Chairmen for next year. Most importantly,
Sheila Henderson has decided she no longer wants to be Membership Chairman nor the Couples Bridge
Marathon Chairman. She has, after all, done Membership at least for many, many years, and has done a
wonderful job each of those years. While we have a volunteer to take over Membership next year, that still leaves
an opportunity for someone to Chair the Couples Bridge Marathon and a few other key committees. Hardly
seems fair to have someone who doesn’t even play in the group, be responsible for it.
To the membership, please be thinking about how you would like to contribute to Act 2 next year, especially if
either of these positions sound like something you might like to do. Thanks to all of those members who do
volunteer and make Act 2 the success that it is.

BOOK CLUB
The Book Club doesn’t meet in August and is taking their annual field trip in September,
so you have another month off without a deadline to read a specific book.
Our first stop is at McIntyre's book store, where we are expected at 10AM, to hear about the newest books and
to receive a list of them. The Village Center has a lot of lovely stores and a Deli among other eateries to visit.
McIntyre’s has also invited our Book Club to join their Book Ends Book Club Night on Wednesday, September
16 from 6:30-9:00 PM. Back by popular demand, is a tradition started by McIntyre’s many moons ago. It
is an evening where we celebrate great books and pitch interesting, quirky, or fun reads for your book
club reading. We pour wine and you get to enjoy! Special offers and giveaways abound! Call
919.542.3030 to reserve your spot.
Our October reading is Breaking In: The Rise of Sonia Sotomayor and the Politics of Justice by Joan
Biskupic and Carrington MacDuffie.
Please call Susan Newsome for any questions, 295-0051.
BRIDGE
LADIES MARATHON BRIDGE
Come join us, it’s a lot of fun.
ACT II, Group XXV - 2015 Ladies Marathon Bridge has completed play. Congratulations to the winners, Sally
Bold Frick & Linda Sheehan, for their First Place Win. Thanks to everyone who participated!
If you would like to sign up for the next Ladies Bridge Marathon, which will be played October 2015 through April
2016, find a partner and forward a check payable to ACT II for $15 per team with the names, mailing addresses,
email addresses, and phone numbers for you and your partner to Pat Lambie, 190 Ridgewood Rd, Pinehurst,

LADIES BIMONTHLY BRIDGE
It has been a long, hot summer and NO BRIDGE. Enough is enough!! The
Wednesday morning Ladies Bridge Group is BACK!! We will be playing in the
Member’s Activity Room at Pinehurst Members Club starting Wednesday
September 2 and again on Wednesday September 16. The time will be at
9:30AM since 9:00 AM was just too early for everyone including me. I have no
list since we haven’t met in such a long time AND Windows 10 crashed my
computer and I lost all my databases and documents. Call Judy McCaffrey at
215-8814 or send an email to [email protected] by August 30 letting me
know if you plan to play. Hopefully, we will get 8-12 ladies like we used to and
we can get back on track. I have missed seeing all of you and hope the feeling
was mutual. See you in September.

NEWSLETTER AND WEBSITE
By now you have probably figured out that I am not
a fan of the new Windows 10.0. Save yourself
hours and wait until they get all the bugs out. Any
software that send out a major patch 3 days after
release isn’t ready for general consumption.
I will gradually get everything back to normal (or my
version of normal) and all this will be a memory.
Remind your friends and neighbors that I am very
happy to post any information about upcoming
events that they send to me. I just ask that I get
them by the 15th of the month which is my deadline
