Salginatobel Bridge
PROJECT Salginatobel Bridge AN ARCH MADE ART DATE 1930 GROUP MEMBERS BETTY RODRIGUEZ REGULO MARTINEZ LINO CACERES DESIGNER PORTFOLIO FROM 1872 TO 1940. DESIGNER, LOCATION & PURPOSE The bridge is located in Schiers Switzerland, and it crosses the Alpine Salgina Valley. Designed by Civil engineer Robert Maillart it serves purpose of allowing pedestrians and small cars to cross the valley. TYPE OF BRIDGE, MATERIALS & TECHNOLOGY Salginatobel Bridge is an arched bridge made with reinforced concrete that is basically a concrete structure in which reinforcement bars or fibers have been incorporated to strengthen a material that would otherwise be brittle. The techology and knowledge used in the making were completely ground breaking given the date it was build. Advantages/disadvantages of the bridge for the specific community. When it comes to advantages is pretty obvious that allowing people to pass the gap that was naturally formed and connecting them to the faster transit system is a plus. But given its age and the materials used Salginatobel Bridge gets worn out very easilly and it has to be constantly repaired, that without taking in count its width wich makes circulation very difficult. Maybe it’s the price to pay when building a piece of functional art. Thanks for watching
