Dear Friends,
Welcome to our third “A Night to Remember.” The beauty and joy of this sacred
space is enhanced by the presence of so many people. The memories of past “A Night
to Remember” simply add to the excitement and anticipation.
As we gather in this place, not only are we marking the present and helping to
secure a future, we are also linking ourselves to the past. The past of the early church
includes being designated as the community center. The church was the place where
not only worship was experienced, but secular various events were held: town
meetings, group gatherings and yes, even the “Farmer’s Market” of old, complete
with animals and goods to sell and buy. In its building, the church meant to link all
of life together.
So it is, and has been, with St. Mary’s since its beginning in 1887 and this
building being consecrated in 1888. Built for the community, St. Mary’s is to be the
place of welcome and hospitality for all who come. It is an honor bestowed on St.
Mary’s for over 125 years ago; it is an honor bestowed on all of us because we, each
in our own way, are a part of St. Mary’s.
Thank you for being present tonight. May you always find St. Mary’s a place
of welcome and community. And now…let the night begin!
Blessings,
Betty+
