Support Services Strategy for Research
The second meeting of the Support Services Strategy for Research group met in early October
2010. A second draft report has been completed which will feed into the overall support services
strategy report. The report will be available on the shared drive for the project.
New Proposal Submission Form
We have developed a new proposal submission form which should be emailed to the relevant
Research Support Officer as part of your application process with the approved budget attached.
This is the first step in introducing a new process for proposal submission and account set up to
try to reduce duplication of effort on the part on the PI and other offices. We will be trialling the
new system on a pilot basis over the coming months to ensure that it meets the needs of the
researchers.
Research Support Fund - Strategic Initiatives Call
The 2010-11 Strategic Initiatives call was launch in December 2010 with a closing date of January
24th 2011. The Scheme aims to provide financial support for strategic research initiatives and
with the aim of enhancing the research performance of the University in terms of the quality of
research outputs, as well as the reputation and international profile of NUI Galway. The RSF
scheme is open to all members of academic staff across all Schools and at all career stages.
New Research Support System
A governance and project group has been established on Research Systems Integration to oversee
the specification, development and implementation of a new Research Support System (with an
associated grant management system). This is a joint initiative with UL which will go to tender
early in 2011.
National Research Data Project
The Research Office, the Institutional Research Officer and the Library are working together on a
IUA SIF project which will allow access to an extensive suite of tools and resources (Irish National
Citation Report) for strategic research analysis and reporting to support cross-institutional
research, 4th level collaboration, institutional bench-marking, and planning and decision-making
on a local and national level.
Staff Changes

Recent Outputs
The below outputs are taken from ISI Web of Knowledge, the Research Support System (RSS) and
ARAN (NUI Galway’s open access repository). Please note this is a selection of publications for
this quarter, some publications are included that are outside this quarter as they may have not
previously been reported on. Limitations from exporting publications from ISI have arisen as they
do not always show the publication month and they do not index all journal titles, however, the
new Research Support System which will be launch by next September will allow for a more
accurate reporting by months. Data will be migrated from the old RSS system to the new system.
Please forward you up-to-date publications to [email protected] for upload.
